Calcium tablets which is better. Calcium in modern preparations. Calcium deficiency in women symptoms and causes

The difference between calcium salts among themselves occurs according to the content of this microelement in them. Its largest amount is in carbonate, which is part of almost all manufactured calcium preparations.

In addition to the main trace element, the product must necessarily contain vitamin D in the required amount. Taking calcium without vitamin D is completely pointless. Vitamin D ensures its full assimilation in the intestines and consumption by bone tissue.

The most optimal ratio is: 500 mg of calcium and 200 mg of vitamin D3. People over 45 years of age are recommended to consume 800 mg or more of vitamin D per day. Therefore, drugs with a Ca ratio of 500 mg and 400 mg of vitamin D are relevant for this age group.

Choice of calcium preparation

When choosing a product, the most important thing is not the price, but the study of dosages and composition on the package. There are calcium salts, the assimilation of which occurs better than others. In any case, you must carefully study the instructions.

If the drug contains lactate or calcium citrate, you can buy it without hesitation. These substances are well absorbed in the body. Worse is the absorption of calcium gluconate. But its usefulness can be increased by crushing the tablet and dropping a few drops of lemon on it. Through these manipulations, calcium passes exactly into the form that is perfectly absorbed in the intestines.

The absorption of calcium carbonate is much slower than other forms. However, it does not become less for the body. Examples of excellent calcium preparations can be: Vitacalcin, Kalprimum, Upsavit Calcium and Additive Calcium.

In order for products based on this form of calcium to be highly effective, special technologies are needed in their manufacture. Manufacturers do not always use them, so there is a danger of purchasing low-quality goods.

Identifying a fake is easy. A tablet of the product must be immersed in a glass of table vinegar. If within 30 minutes its complete dissolution occurred, then the drug is of high quality.

The rate of consumption of calcium microelement per day for a person is from 800 to 1200 mg. If a person regularly consumes dairy products and other products containing calcium, the intake rate can be reduced by 50%. It is very important to observe these amounts and avoid overdosing.

The supply of calcium to the body depends entirely on the age category, its need for growth and all kinds of changes in the bone structure. Scientists have determined the average amount of a vitamin that a woman must necessarily consume during the day, depending on her age:

  • from 1 to 3 years - 0.7 g;
  • from 4 to 8 years - 1g;
  • from 9 to 18 - 1.3g;
  • from 19 to 50 - 1g;
  • from fifty-one years and above - 1.2g.

After a woman reaches her 50s, bone strength begins to gradually deteriorate due to hormonal changes and reduced physical activity, most often these changes occur around the onset of menopause. Signs that a woman is deficient in the vitamin may include slight tingling in the upper or lower extremities, as well as numbness of the toes or hands - these symptoms indicate that there is a slight degree of hypocalcemia. The most significant calcium deficiency for women over 50 years of age can manifest as uncontrolled muscle cramps and internal impulses.

To diagnose the need and understand whether it is necessary to take calcium supplements can be processes that indicate a chronic deficiency of this vitamin and are expressed by the following neuropsychiatric abnormalities:

  • panic attacks;
  • frequent depression;
  • memory impairment;
  • the occurrence of problems with logical thinking;
  • insomnia;
  • occasional dizziness.

Quite often, the missing amount of calcium for women after 50 years worsens the functioning of the cardiovascular system. Such violations are manifested by the occurrence of arrhythmia and shortness of breath, as well as the appearance of puffiness.

You can understand that there is a deficiency and there is a need to take calcium according to the condition of the skin, hair and nail plate. Symptoms related to the skin are manifested by the occurrence of itching, allergic reactions and dry tissues. In cases where a woman has excessive fragility of the nail plate and frequent problems with her teeth, these symptoms are signs of calcium deficiency. Women who have reached the age of 55 are often exposed to diseases that negatively affect the state of the bone tissue and thereby lead to frequent damage to the integrity of the bones.

Which calcium is better and 5 effective drugs

It is known that calcium intake occurs through the use of healthy foods, but very often after a woman reaches 50 years old, her body has difficulty coping with its regulation, or vice versa, very quickly removes the vitamin. That is why it is necessary to take drugs that contain the right amount of this component, and also contribute to its proper absorption in the body by the fair sex.

It is worth remembering that each of the funds offered on the market has its own contraindications and side effects. Therefore, before you start taking calcium, you must definitely consult a doctor who will select the most suitable remedy for you, based on the characteristics and individual properties of your body.

Which calcium is best?

"Calcium Sandoz Forte" - this remedy is produced in France in various dosages and contains two calcium salts:

  • carbonate;
  • lactogluconate.

In the natural environment, the vitamin is in the form of salts, which have different ability of the substance to reach the site of its action in the body. The calcium preparation for women is presented in the form of effervescent tablets and is endowed with a pleasant orange flavor. In addition, it is not only appetizing, but also has special chemical components that contribute to the normalization of working processes in the body. The vitamins needed for replenishment are perfectly absorbed in the intestines. Each package contains 20 tablets of 0.5 g of calcium.

"Calcium-D3 Nycomed" - this drug combines two necessary components - salts containing calcium and vitamin D3. This drug is often called "solar", as it begins to function when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. The task of such a drug is to maintain and normalize the required amount of calcium and phosphorus in human blood. Thanks to this remedy, salts are perfectly absorbed in the body and calcium intake has an effective result.

The medicine contains pure calcium and cholecalciferol. The drug is presented in the form of chewable tablets that have two flavors: orange and mint. Produced in Norway and contains 20 capsules per pack. Firm "Nycomed" produces the drug Calcium-D3 Nycomed, which contains twice the amount of vitamin D.

"Calcium with Vitamin C". In order to prevent the development of a disease such as osteoporosis, it is necessary not only to take calcium, but also to consume vitamin C. It is not produced by the human body and that is why it is very necessary. To adjust the amount of vitamin and prevent calcium starvation, you should take this remedy. Calcium with Vitamin C is produced in Holland. The package contains 12 orange flavored tablets. This product contains vitamin C and calcium carbonate.

The abundance of drugs on the pharmaceutical market makes it possible to individually choose the right remedy. Based on the diagnosis, analysis and consultations of a doctor, it is important to decide whether you need to drink calcium and how much you need.

Calcium is one of the elements necessary for human health and vital activity.

The lack of this element causes many disturbances in the functioning of internal organs and blood circulation, as a result of which the body is forced to redistribute calcium reserves, washing it out of the bone tissue into the bloodstream.

As a result, an equally serious problem arises - the bones become brittle and fragile, and the risk of severe fractures and diseases of the musculoskeletal system increases significantly.

Everyone knows that calcium is found mainly in dairy products, and for bone health it is necessary to include milk and cottage cheese in the menu, but even their daily use cannot guarantee good digestibility of the element.

There are several types of such drugs: monopreparations (those that contain only calcium, as well as calcium preparations with vitamin D and other trace elements that promote the absorption of the element and have a beneficial effect on the health of the body.

The need for calcium at different ages in people differ significantly - children need 0.7-1 g of calcium per day, young people - 1.3 g, the elderly - at least 1.2 g.

Monopreparations containing only calcium salt

Medicines that contain only calcium salts:

  • carbonate;
  • citrate;
  • lactate.

Without additional additives, these drugs are popular due to their low cost and availability.

The disadvantage of their use is that this microelement is poorly absorbed by the body, and an overdose can cause serious side effects.

Calcium gluconate

The simplest drug that is sold in every pharmacy and is used for hypocalcemia (calcium deficiency in the body), as well as to suppress allergic reactions.

When compared with other drugs, it has the lowest percentage of digestibility (about 3%), and if taken incorrectly, it can contribute to the formation of kidney stones.

For this reason, calcium gluconate is most often used as part of complex therapy.

You will find instructions for using the drug L-thyroxine.

Calcium carbonate

Another common drug, which, with normal stomach acidity, is absorbed much better - by 17-22%, but with some diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the degree of its absorption is reduced to almost zero. As with calcium gluconate, it can cause side effects such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, and loss of appetite.

It is better to take pure calcium salts in the evening or between meals, drinking plenty of acidic liquid.

"Vitacalcin"

Its main difference from ordinary calcium gluconate is that, thanks to the additional ingredients, Vitacalcin dissolves better in water and is more quickly absorbed by the body. Indications, rules of administration and side effects of the drug are similar to those described above.

"Calcium Sandoz"

A drug that contains a trace element in three forms at once: lactate, gluconate and carbonate.

In terms of pure calcium - about 500 mg per tablet.

Sandoz is convenient in that it comes in the form of effervescent tablets, making it easy to use for diseases associated with calcium deficiency in children.

Before using preparations containing pure calcium salts, it is necessary to consult a doctor, since the abuse of these drugs can cause hypercalcemia, a condition that is life-threatening.

calcium and vitamins

The composition of such preparations includes a different amount of vitamins and trace elements, from two to three to several dozen. Complex drugs bring more benefits to the body (compared to single drugs), but their cost is much higher.

Multivitamin preparations

The range of such drugs in modern pharmacies is very large, so it is necessary to choose a complex based on the needs of your own body.

Most often they are issued for a certain category of consumers: children, pregnant women, those who are at risk for osteoporosis, etc.

Here are the most famous ones:

  1. "Calcium + Vitamin C". A relatively inexpensive and effective remedy for the prevention of osteoporosis and other age-related disorders. In addition to calcium, the drug contains vitamin C, which is not synthesized by the human body, so replenishing its deficiency plays an important role. Produced in the form of soluble tablets with a fruity aroma.
  2. Vitrum. Preparations of this brand are considered one of the most popular in the modern market. In the line "Vitrum" you can find complexes for children and pregnant women, tonic and beauty products (improving the condition of the skin, hair and nails).
  3. Vitamax. The product contains calcium citrate and calcium hydroxyapatite - forms that are best absorbed by the body, as well as additional elements, including phosphorus, boron, zinc and a complex of chondroitite sulfate, designed specifically to strengthen bones and joints.

In addition to the above drugs, calcium is part of the Multitabs vitamin complex for children, Prenatal and Elevit for pregnant women, Sana-Sol, etc.

Due to anatomical features, women need more calcium than men, and in the life of the fair sex there are several periods when this element is vital (puberty, pregnancy, menopause).

Combined drugs

Calcium combination products contain another important element for bone health - vitamin D (preparations with calcium and vitamin D).

It promotes good absorption of calcium, protects bone tissue from destruction and prevents diseases such as rickets and osteoporosis.

List of funds containing these two components:

  1. "Calcium-D3 Nycomed". Combined remedy that contains calcium and vitamin D3. This is one of the most effective and easy to use preparations - it is available in the form of mint or orange flavored chewable tablets. Virtually no side effects.
  2. Complivit Calcium D3. The components of the drug include calcium carbonate, cholecalciferol and vitamin D. It is available in the form of chewable tablets that can be taken from the age of three. Possible side effects include allergic reactions and gastrointestinal disorders.
  3. "Calcemin". Mineral and vitamin complex, which includes calcium carbonate and citrate, vitamin D and other beneficial substances. Available in the form of capsules, taken with meals at the dosage indicated in the instructions.

Among the popular combination drugs, you can also include Natekal D3, which additionally contains magnesium useful for the heart, and Ostalon Calcium-D with alendronic acid, a substance that slows down the destruction of bone tissue.

Taking drugs containing calcium and other useful substances is the best way to prevent bone diseases, but before choosing a remedy, you should consult a doctor and carefully study the list of contraindications and side effects.

If you are taking this plan, make sure that the single dose is not too large. When taking calcium in the intestines, no more than 500-600 mg are absorbed, which means that it is pointless to take a larger dose. If you need more per day, divide the entire daily allowance into several doses.

It is best to take calcium supplements in the evening, because at night the processes of bone destruction are actively flowing in the body. For the best absorption, calcium should be consumed between meals, washed down with any acidic liquid - cranberry juice, orange juice, etc. In this form, the drug is absorbed much better. Due to the additional acidic environment, citrate is formed, which ensures the absorption of calcium, regardless of the gastric environment.

What drugs are prescribed for calcium deficiency in the body?

For therapeutic purposes, calcium preparations (salts) are prescribed: gluconate, lactate, iodide, carbonate, chloride. They are not recommended to drink milk. It is also necessary to exclude from the diet products containing oxalic and acetic acids.

Prescribing calcium supplements is one thing, but getting the desired result is completely different.
That is, for the absorption of calcium carbonate, a huge amount of hydrochloric acid secreted by the stomach is required. At a young age, this is not a problem, the stomach absorbs heavy calcium carbonate rather freely, but in case of any chronic diseases (and not only those associated with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract), the release of hydrochloric acid becomes reduced and calcium carbonate is not absorbed, but is excreted by the body as slag.

The best absorption in the gastrointestinal tract with the lowest risk of stone formation is characterized by calcium citrate (that is, the calcium salt of citric acid). Therefore, calcium carbonate is advised to drink lemon juice. Calcium citrate is included in a number of calcium preparations, consisting of a mixture of several calcium salts.

Calcium citrate preparations do not require gastric acidity and are preferred in individuals with hypo- and anacid conditions.

What is the acid-base balance of the body?

Most of us remember from school that substances are divided into acidic, alkaline and neutral. Indicators that determine the acidity or alkalinity of aqueous solutions are litmus, phenolphthalein, methyl orange. Most often, litmus paper is used (paper soaked in a litmus solution and then dried), which changes its color depending on the environment in which it enters. The unit for measuring the acidity, or alkalinity, of solutions is the pH indicator, determined by a color scale, on which 0 means the most acidic medium (purple color), 14 - the most alkaline medium (dark blue color), the middle of the scale - 7 - corresponds to a neutral medium ( green color). Distilled hearth is neutral and has a pH value of 7.

The abbreviation pH (potential hydrogen) itself stands for hydrogen potential. Acids are complex substances, when dissolved in water, hydrogen cations are always released. The pH value of any solution is nothing but the level of concentration of hydrogen cations.

The human body is 70% liquid of one kind or another, so all substances that change their composition and acidity have a global impact on the body as a whole.

Almost all fluids in the human body system are either neutral or slightly alkaline, with the exception of gastric juice: the pH of gastric juice is 1.0, healthy blood - 7.4, healthy lymph - 7.5, saliva - 7.4. The shift in balance towards increasing the acidity of the system is one of the main causes of many diseases.

The body hardly removes excess acids, and when the acidity of the blood or lymph rises excessively, and this continues for a long time, various diseases occur. In an acidic environment, many viruses and bacteria that cause various diseases multiply intensively, while in an alkaline environment, they, as a rule, die. When the body system is alkalized and the normal acid-base balance returns, the person begins to recover.

Calcium, placed in any liquid, neutralizes excess acidity, which means it raises the pH value. With the daily use of calcium, all the fluids of our body become more alkaline, and therefore the whole body as a whole.

The body is constantly looking for a reserve of alkali to neutralize a large amount of acid, and this reserve is only one - the bones. Calcium found in bones. Therefore, when we eat acidic foods and drink acidic drinks, we are constantly depleting calcium.

A quality calcium supplement should meet the following specifications:

no side effects, easy to use;

In addition to calcium, supplements should contain nutrients, vitamins and trace elements.

There are many types of calcium: calcium carbonate, calcium chloride, calcium citrate, calcium glycerophosphate, calcium lactate, calcium gluconate, calcium phosphate, etc. Preference should be given to hydroxyapatite and calcium citrate.

· Calcium hydroxyapatite is part of the bone tissue. Bone tissue consists of organic and mineral parts. The mineral part of the bones and the hard part of our teeth consists of calcium hydroxyapatite. Unlike other, less soluble calcium salts, calcium hydroxyapatite is easily soluble in gastric contents, is well absorbed and does not provoke calcification of the walls of arteries, the formation of stones in the gallbladder, renal pelvis and tubules.

· Calcium citrate - a salt of citric acid, one of the most effective and safe forms of calcium. The absorption of calcium from calcium citrate is not affected by food intake or the acidity of gastric juice.

It is no secret that some types of calcium, when taken for a long time, contribute to the formation of kidney stones. In contrast, calcium citrate dissolves well in water and is a form of calcium that not only does not increase the risk of developing urolithiasis, but also provides additional protection against the formation of stones from oxalates and uric acid (provided that the composition of the calcium preparation along with citrate calcium includes another calcium salt). The only disadvantage of calcium citrate compared to other types of calcium is its slightly higher price.

How to take calcium

Calcium supplements are highly effective as sleep aids and may provide a better night's sleep.

The need for calcium is increased in women during pregnancy and lactation, in all people in the period after illness and in stressful situations;

· Calcium (including vitamins) in the vicinity of spinach, rhubarb, sorrel and other foods rich in oxalic acid, forms insoluble compounds. The effectiveness of drugs and vitamins is reduced to almost zero, and oxalate stones can form in the kidneys and bladder;

The duration of taking a calcium preparation depends on many factors - your diet (the amount of calcium you consume), the quality of calcium supplements taken, lifestyle, age, etc .;

Calcium is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract with difficulty and only in a certain amount - 300-400 mg per dose. Therefore, it makes no sense to take more at one time, since excess calcium will still be excreted from the body unused. The daily dose should be divided into 2-3 parts;

most of the daily dose of calcium should be taken in the evening, because. calcium is deposited in bone tissue at night;

Calcium should be used together with vitamin D3. It is the inactive form of vitamin D and is required for calcium to be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

With calcium preparations, you should take a sufficient amount of liquid (drink at least 1 glass of water for each dose).

calcium gluconate

It is one of the most widely used calcium supplements in the world. It is considered as the drug of first choice for intravenous administration in the event of seizures associated with calcium deficiency. Available in tablets of 250 and 500 mg, as well as in the form of a 10% solution for injection. Tablets are often available with fruit additives, as well as cocoa flavor.

Like calcium chloride solutions, calcium gluconate solutions can cause local tissue irritation, although not as strong.

Intramuscular and subcutaneous administration of calcium gluconate is also contraindicated, although some pharmacological guidelines (domestic) allow intramuscular administration of calcium gluconate, but only for adults. Children - only intravenously!

The practical use of calcium gluconate is often useless due to improper dosing.

Note:

The average daily dose of calcium gluconate for adults is 15 g, i.e. 30 tablets of 500 mg or 60 tablets of 250 mg!

Average daily doses for children:

o up to a year - 1.5 g (3 tablets of 500 mg);

o 1-4 years - 3 g (6 tablets of 500 mg);

o 5-9 years - 3-6 g (6-12 tablets of 500 mg);

o 10-14 years - 6-9 g (12-18 tablets of 500 mg).

It is advisable to divide the daily dose into several doses (2-4). Taking calcium gluconate orally in most cases is not accompanied by any side effects.

calcium lactate

Available in tablets of 500 mg. It contains a larger amount of calcium compared to gluconate, so it is much more convenient to take it (the average daily dose is 3-4 times less than that for calcium gluconate).

Gluconate, chloride and lactate are the calcium preparations most commonly used. Nevertheless, the list of calcium salts prescribed by doctors is not limited to these drugs. Other calcium preparations (carbonate, phosphate, glycerophosphate, acetate, citrate) do not have any special advantages and special indications for use.

Calcium is a vital element for any living organism, one of the main building blocks for the skeleton and all bones, an indispensable, active alkaline earth component involved in many basic metabolic processes in the body.

We consume it with food, but current trends significantly reduce the already small doses of natural calcium in foods. The only way to replenish the deficiency is the use of special preparations. However, how to choose the optimal form of calcium, which would be quickly and completely absorbed by the body and at the same time would be inexpensive?

What are calcium supplements for?

The choice of the necessary drug must begin with an awareness of its significance for the body, as well as the beneficial properties and potential risks of taking the drug.

For adults

Calcium in the adult body performs a huge range of vital systemic functions. It is the main one for bone and tooth tissues, normalizes blood clotting, ensures the normal functioning of the muscle contraction function.

Recent studies show that it is calcium that slows down the aging process, an element that acts as an inhibitor of cancer development in complex therapy. For middle-aged and older people, calcium is needed to combat osteoporosis, menopause, as well as high blood pressure and some cardiovascular problems.

This element also blocks the absorption of saturated fats by the human body, normalizes the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, and fights “bad” cholesterol.

For kids

It is calcium that is the most important mineral for children, starting from the first days of life. It helps the child to fully develop and be healthy. This element in the child's body is involved in more than three hundred biochemical processes, from the formation and development of bone tissue to the functioning of muscles and the cardiovascular system.

Calcium in various forms regulates the acid-base balance of the body, protects blood vessels from permeability, regulates muscle tone and blood clotting. An insufficient amount of calcium can cause convulsions in a child, multiple sclerosis, rickets, developmental pathologies of the lens of the eye, and poor blood clotting. The full development of the baby, including the active growth of the skeleton, directly depends on the presence in the body of a sufficient amount of the above substance.

Modern studies of scientists on the occurrence of diseases directly or indirectly related to a lack of calcium in the body are actively published in the foreign press. , this problem can cause up to a hundred of a wide variety of diseases and syndromes.

The most famous recorded cases:

  1. Osteoporosis is a decrease in bone density and an increase in skeletal fragility with a significant increase in the risk of fractures.
  2. Rickets is a childhood disease caused by insufficient mineralization of bone tissue and leading to a change in its structure.
  3. Osteomalacia is a disease similar to rickets, found in adolescents and adults.
  4. Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas.
  5. Menopause is a syndrome of physiological decline in the sexual constitution.
  6. Renal and liver failure.
  7. Change in thyroid function.
  8. Cachexia and anorexia - exhaustion of the body.
  9. Bisbacteriosis.
  10. Cardiovascular diseases.
  11. Infectious, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases of a wide spectrum.
  12. Acquired defects of connective and bone tissue.
  13. Pulmonary and heart failure.
  14. Hyperplasia.
  15. Various neuropathies and stresses.
  16. Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

How to choose the right one and what to pay attention to?

Almost every modern person, in addition to the natural calcium contained in, requires an additional intake of drugs, due to the steady decrease in this useful element in the daily diet. For example, pregnant women and children need at least one and a half daily required dose, and patients during the recovery period even double. What kind of calcium to choose? Let's look at this issue more closely.

At the moment, calcium preparations are divided into two large groups - these are complexes of animal origin and drug substrates.

The former are nutritional supplements made from limestone, oyster shells, dolomite, animal bones, and other natural products. This type of drug is inexpensive and available in large dosages. However, there are two features here - this is the concentration of calcium directly in the mixture (it is lower than in classic factory tablets), as well as various natural pollutants, in particular lead, because it is he who accumulates in places where calcium is deposited. At a sufficiently high concentration, this pollutant can damage the brain and the cardiovascular system, almost and even change behavior with the appearance of aggression and a general decrease in intellectual functions.

The least of these negative additives, according to the results of the study, is found in chelate forms and calcium carbonates, most of all - in the bones and shells of oysters. Therefore, if you are going to purchase calcium preparations based on natural structures, be sure to choose preparations with the maximum level of purification.

In addition, it is desirable to use calcium preparations together with phosphorus and magnesium - this is how these components mutually reinforce the joint beneficial effect on the body and compensate for the loss of these minerals. If there is a lack of any of the three indicated elements in the body, then no matter how much you use one or two others, they will be absorbed very poorly. Vitamin C should also be taken as an additional modulator (aka fish oil) - the first catalyzes the absorption of calcium, the second is a kind of balancing for other minerals.

Preparations from purified substances are most often various compounds of a semi-synthetic nature in the form of salts. They are available in the form of solutions or compressed tablets. Here you should pay attention to the salt formula itself, because each of them may contain a different concentration of elemental calcium. So calcium gluconate and calcium lactate contain only 90 to 130 milligrams of pure substance per gram of substrate, while calcium chloride - 270, and calcium carbonate - more than 400 milligrams per gram of the compound.
