On November 20, 2017, the Fifth All-Russian Conference on Environmental Education “Environmental Education Today. A look into the future".
Nowadays, the topic of environmental education in the Russian Federation is given increased attention. Following the meeting of the State Council on the issue “On the environmental development of the Russian Federation in the interests of future generations” (2016), the Government of the Russian Federation, when developing strategic planning documents and a comprehensive action plan for 2017–2025, was instructed to provide for “Russia’s transition to a model of environmentally sustainable development, allowing to ensure in the long term the effective use of the country's natural capital while eliminating the impact of environmental threats on human health", as well as "to submit proposals for the inclusion in the federal state educational standards of the requirements for the development of basic knowledge in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development by students".
The President of the Russian Federation invited all those involved in the implementation of these instructions to take into account in their activities the modern priorities of the world community, primarily those set out in the Agenda for Sustainable Development for the period up to 2030, adopted at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly (2015).
In the light of these instructions, the V.I. Vernadsky, together with the Scientific Council for Environmental Education of the Russian Academy of Education, took the initiative to hold in Russia in the Year of Ecology the International Marathon on Environmental Education for the Sustainable Development of Russia. The final stage of the annual International Marathon is the Fifth All-Russian Conference on Environmental Education.
As part of the Marathon, more than 30 scientific and practical events (conferences, sections, forums, round tables, negotiation platforms) were held in different regions, as well as in countries near and far abroad, dedicated to various aspects of the formation of environmental culture, the development of environmental education, discussion conceptual foundations of modern environmental education for sustainable development.
The conference is designed to discuss topical issues in the field of environmental education at all levels and outline the prospects for the formation of environmental thinking and the development of environmental culture, which is one of the fundamental tasks on the way to achieving the strategic goal of state policy in the field of environmental development - solving socio-economic problems, ensuring environmentally oriented economic growth, preserving a favorable environment, biological diversity and natural resources to meet the needs of present and future generations, realizing the rights of everyone to a favorable environment, strengthening the rule of law in the field of environmental protection and ensuring environmental safety.
Within the framework of the Conference, all components of the system of continuous environmental education will be considered: preschool education, school, universities and postgraduate education, as a stage in the preparation of human resources for the development of the country's economy.

On November 20-21, 2017, the Fifth All-Russian Conference on Environmental Education was held in Moscow, in which Galina Andreevna Kretinina, Deputy Director for Water Resource Management of the MBUDO “Rainbow Center”, Volgodonsk, took part. This conference is the final stage of the annual International Marathon, the purpose of which was to consolidate the efforts of scientists and practitioners in the field of solving the general cultural problems of education in the interests of the environmental sustainable development of Russia. Within the framework of the conference, a plenary session was held and thematic sections worked. Plenary session “Ecological education today. A look into the future” was conducted by Grachev Vladimir Alexandrovich, President of the Non-Governmental Environmental Foundation named after V.I. Vernadsky, President of the Russian Ecological Academy, Scientific Director of the Center for Global Ecology, Faculty of Global Processes, Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, moderator. Sergey Efimovich Donskoy, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Alexander Ivanovich Bedritsky - Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Climate Issues, Vladimir Vladimirovich Burmatov - Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection and many others representatives of the authorities and Russian science. On the second day, three thematic sections worked. Galina Andreevna participated in the work of the section “Environmental education in the system of preschool, general and additional education”, got acquainted with the speeches of scientists, pedagogical workers of organizations from various subjects of the Russian Federation, who reflected in their reports the issues of social partnership of educational organizations as a factor in the development of opportunities for environmental education of the population; preservation of cultural heritage as the basis for the environmental sustainable development of Russia. At the department of teachers of preschool, general and additional education of the section, the audience was presented with the experience of Russian educational institutions in implementing the tasks of environmental education of students.
In addition to summing up the results of the International Marathon, proposals were discussed at the conference: on the implementation of the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, given following the results of the meeting of the State Council on the issue “On the environmental development of the Russian Federation in the interests of future generations; amendments to the documents of the Federal State Educational Standard of General Education on the issues of its environmental component.
