How to choose shampoo for dry scalp. Rating of the best shampoos and other products for the care of sensitive scalp Shampoo for dry scalp rating

Liquid shampoo has been around for over 90 years. And dry was patented even earlier - in 1903. Before these innovations, they washed their heads only with natural means: ash, eggs, kvass, honey, soapwort, algae and other improvised materials. Already in 1933, the first alkali-free hair shampoo appeared. It was a product of the Schwarzkopf brand. At first, universal shampoos were produced - for all types of hair, and then they were developed specifically for each: for dry, oily, weakened, damaged and others. Shampoos for dry scalp are designed not only to cleanse from dirt, dead epithelial cells, fat, but also to nourish and moisturize the skin.

Definition

Dry scalp can appear at any age. This is encouraged by:

  • nutrition. Dryness can appear from an unbalanced diet. Good nutrition is the key to beautiful healthy hair. And vice versa;
  • bad habits. Tobacco smoking and alcoholism. But not only. The reluctance to wear a hat on cold days also applies to them;
  • hormonal disruptions;
  • wrong care. That is, shampoos and other products are not used for the right type of hair. And electrical appliances (ironing irons, hair dryers) do not at all contribute to the health of hair and its beauty;
  • hydraulic balance. The habit of making do with only coffee or tea instead of pure water can do a disservice. Humans are 80% liquid. Therefore, it is necessary to replenish stocks by consuming up to two liters of water per day;
  • negative environmental impact. Dry air, heat, frost contribute to dry scalp.

The use of electrical appliances negatively affects the scalp

Do not use a shampoo that advertises the powerful action of two stimulants - aminexil and minoxidil. It will be a simple waste of money.

In addition to the main components of shampoos for dry hair, they are also classified as:

  • professional;
  • mass market.

Professional have a narrow specialization and their action is aimed at solving a single problem. As part of the products, high-quality raw materials that do not accumulate in the hair are well washed out and carefully care for dry scalp. As an example: CUTRIN Professional Lumene (Finland).

Mass market. These are cosmetic products that are designed for a wide range of consumers. Their main function is hygienic and therefore they do not solve any problems that are needed at the moment. It does not contain expensive active ingredients. These include shampoo lines: Shauma, Shwarzkopf and others.

conclusions

For the regeneration of dry scalp, its health and radiance of hair, it is necessary to choose the right shampoos. They should be as saturated as possible with natural ingredients and sulfates, parabens, silicones are undesirable in the composition. Choosing the right shampoo does not mean that the hair will immediately become healthy and the skin moisturized. You need to wash your hair properly, use electrical appliances, such as irons, hair dryers, as little as possible. Shampoos need to be changed periodically so that the epidermis does not get used. If you carefully care for dry scalp, then soon the hair will again become an ornament, having a healthy, well-groomed appearance.

With the appearance of peeling, redness on the scalp, many will suspect dandruff or allergies. However, behind these symptoms lies a completely different problem - the sensitivity of the scalp. If you self-medicate or do nothing, you can get serious diseases and lose a good half of your hair.

Site experts - Alexandra Edelberg, Schwarzkopf Professional stylist, Ekaterina Chernovskaya, Paul Mitchell Russia technologist, Sergey Tishin, Kerastase training manager- reveal the meaning of the concept of "sensitive scalp" and talk about how to deal with the problem.

Signs of a sensitive scalp

Experts say that the first step to increase the sensitivity of the skin is dehydration. For a number of reasons, the dermis loses its lipid-fat layer, moisture does not linger in the deep layers and quickly evaporates. As a result, the skin becomes defenseless against any external influences - from simple combing to washing your hair or staying in the sun, there is a feeling of discomfort, burning, itching, redness, inflammation and peeling appear on the surface of the skin.

Hormonal disruptions, an improperly selected hair care line, mechanical or thermal damage during styling, chemical damage during dyeing, sudden climate change, beriberi, endocrine diseases, aggressive sun exposure (burns) can contribute to the process. Therefore, sensitive scalp can become with any type of hair.

Marks of Excellence

All of the above symptoms are similar to several problems at once. So, peeling can be easily confused with dandruff, redness and itching - with an allergic reaction. But there are fundamental differences here.

For example, with dandruff, rather large particles cover the entire surface of the head, they very often separate and end up on clothes. With sensitive scalp, peeling appears in the thinnest areas - along the edge of the hairline, in the temporal regions, on the lower part of the nape. Horny scales always remain on the skin and do not fall on clothes.

As for allergies, this is a temporary transient phenomenon: a reaction to a shampoo or styling product, which can disappear in the absence of irritants after a few days. If the scalp is sensitive, then itching and redness haunt the person for a long period.

By the way, sensitivity can even lead to a change in the type of scalp itself. Dry and tight, it enhances the work of the sebaceous glands in order to somehow protect its surface. As a result, the hair quickly becomes greasy.

In all these cases, with ignorance of the problem, people begin to self-medicate. Use anti-dandruff shampoos containing zinc, or products for oily scalp, built on drying components.

Damaged scalp from such “resuscitation” begins to dry even more, become irritated, deep wounds and cracks appear on it, which open the gate for bacteria to enter the deep layers of the dermis. As a result, if you self-medicate or, conversely, do nothing, sensitive scalp can cause dandruff, hair loss. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to deal with this problem at the manifestation of its first signs, without waiting for side effects.

How to treat sensitive scalp

To rehabilitate the scalp, it is necessary to restore its hydro-lipid and water balances. Therapy includes home care and a visit to a trichologist. The doctor will help to find out the root cause of the problem, prescribe an additional course of vitamins and recovery procedures.

home care

Home care should include products with active moisturizing, regenerating, nourishing and soothing ingredients. These include:

  • Aloe Vera- enhances the protective functions of the skin, creates a protective film on the surface, softens and moisturizes.
  • Calophyllum oil- effectively relieves inflammation and redness of the scalp, eliminates discomfort.
  • Ps21- a molecule that is designed to relieve spasm of blood vessels. It soothes the scalp, relieves redness and discomfort.
  • Peppermint extract- contains menthol in its composition, allows you to instantly soothe the scalp and relieve discomfort, has a pronounced cooling effect.
  • Piroctone olamine- in small concentrations, it helps to exfoliate keratinized scales, restores blood flow in the scalp.
  • Glycerol- a powerful moisturizing and regenerating component.
  • Macadamia, jojoba, shea oils- moisturize, create a protective film on the surface.
  • Lavender extract- relieves irritation, soothes the skin.

In many forums, it is advised to use shampoos and balms from the children's series for scalp sensitivity. There is some truth in these words. The fact is that children have the most thin and delicate skin, which is prone to allergic reactions.

Sensitive scalp - the solution to the problem

Therefore, manufacturers strive to make the product as safe as possible in terms of chemical composition (do not add fragrances, parabens), as well as in terms of PH level for children's scalp. But baby shampoo will not solve the problem, but will only make shampooing more comfortable. In addition, it does not clean hair well from styling products.

Causes of dry scalp and hair

The most common causes of dry scalp are:

  • Regular staining. Women are most at risk if they try to do it themselves, without the help of a professional hairdresser. The composition of hair dyes contains substances that aggressively affect the scalp and curls, making them dry.
  • Unbalanced nutrition. If the body does not receive enough vitamins, then the skin begins to deteriorate. Also, dryness often appears due to a small amount of fluid consumed.
  • The wrong shampoo. Often people make mistakes choosing it. The fact is that shampoo, which is marked “for all hair types”, is not really suitable for those who suffer from dry scalp. It is necessary to choose a remedy, focusing on the real state of the dermis.
  • Exposure to low or high temperatures. Neglecting a hat in winter and overusing a hair dryer or curling iron will definitely harm your hair and skin, making them dry.

Dry scalp
  • Various pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract, endocrine, nervous systems. Such diseases can also lead to dehydration of the skin.
  • Using tap water to wash your hair. Despite the fact that many are accustomed to this particular method, it is quite harmful. The fact is that tap water contains chlorine and metals, leading to dryness.
  • Allergy, skin diseases. When entering the epidermis, pathogenic bacteria and fungi disrupt the metabolism in cells and tissues. Therefore, often the body's reaction to the invasion of foreign microorganisms is dryness, as well as the occurrence of allergic reactions.
  • Having bad habits. Passion for drinking and smoking has not made anyone healthier. Moreover, they have a negative effect on blood vessels. As a result, the skin does not receive moisture.
  • The period of bearing a child and breastfeeding. At these stages in the body of a woman, hormonal disruptions can occur that can lead to dry skin and hair.
  • Washing your hair too often can also lead to dehydration of the epidermis.

Why does dandruff appear

Often, dryness of the skin of the head and hair is accompanied by the appearance of small scales. Dandruff can be a manifestation of both normal dehydration of the dermis and a symptom of certain diseases. It is formed for the following reasons:

  • Violation of the hormonal background. Due to the malfunction of the gonads, sometimes in the body of women and men, androgens begin to be produced in large quantities. Because of this, the quality of sebum changes, which becomes more viscous. Too thick consistency of the secret prevents the keratinized particles from falling off normally. Glued layers are formed, which are dandruff.

Such changes in sebum often lead to a disease such as seborrhea. It is accompanied by itching of the skin, rashes in the form of spots, hair loss. This problem can be cured both with medication and with the help of special shampoos.

  • Violation of the glands of the skin. Usually they occur as a result of stress, disruption in the production of hormones, eating unhealthy fatty foods. All this provokes excessive production of sebum or a change in its composition.
  • Fungal infections. Sometimes, in the event of a malfunction in the secretion-producing glands, pathogenic microorganisms begin to develop. In the normal state, fungi are present on human skin, but if the fat begins to stand out too actively, then their number also increases. As a result, dandruff develops.
  • Skin diseases. Often the appearance of scales on the scalp is the first sign of an emerging pathology. Dandruff often accompanies an autoimmune disease such as psoriasis.

  • You need to lather your head gradually, moving in the direction from the back of the head to the crown.

  • It is not recommended to apply shampoo along the entire length of the hair. It needs to be distributed only along the very roots, otherwise the curls will become brittle and too dry. Shampoo flowing down on them is quite enough for hair to be cleansed.
  • Water when washing your hair should be warm, in no case excessively hot or cold.
  • To avoid dry hair, you should abandon the hair dryer. An excellent alternative would be a soft towel that will not cause any harm to the curls and scalp. But you should not rub your hair hard, otherwise they can become brittle.
  • Until the hair is completely dry, it is better not to use the comb.

And then you do not have to worry about the untidy look of the hairstyle.

You may have experienced dry scalp before. As a rule, this is accompanied by rashes and irritation, and the main cause of an allergic reaction is an improperly selected shampoo. To get rid of these annoying side effects, you should pay attention to the detergent that is currently on the shelf in your bathroom.

According to statistics, more than 28% of all people who use shampoo experience an allergic reaction in the form of a small rash, dandruff, acne, etc. The most dangerous ingredients that cause this discomfort are ammonium sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate.

organic shampoo

Organic shampoos consist only of natural ingredients, or rather, plant extracts. They do not contain parabens, fragrances, artificial fragrances or sulfates. Yes, some of these products do not foam well, which causes distrust among consumers.

However, most of these shampoos contain essential oils that can moisturize and restore hair structure. For example, tea tree oil. It has antiseptic properties, so it is suitable for people with sensitive skin.

In addition, organic shampoo is a choice in favor of the environment, because companies produce cosmetics in biodegradable packages that are easily recycled.

Organic shampoos can really surprise you because they contain minerals, natural oils, and plant and flower extracts.

Antiallergic shampoos

Hypoallergenic shampoos do not contain harmful chemicals, and therefore have practically no pronounced aroma. Rather, the smell from such cosmetics will be weak and simply natural, as if you have prepared a decoction of herbs or made a flower tincture in oil.

It is these shampoos that will help eliminate the occurrence of allergic reactions, which often lead to skin diseases, such as dermatitis and psoriasis. In some people, irritation and itching causes early alopecia (baldness).

Perfume Shampoo

If you are using a natural cosmetic product, then you will definitely want a pleasant fragrance coming from your hair. And here's the great news: Companies have begun releasing organic perfume shampoos that can be just as effective at cleansing curls, but at the same time scent them with a pleasant smell.

Shampoos for sensitive scalp

If you begin to notice that redness and a rash appear on the scalp, neck and face, then this may be an allergic reaction to a cosmetic product. Of course, first of all, you should go to a specialist for an appointment, but it is recommended to put your favorite shampoo aside for now. The reason is simple: some shampoos contain sulfates and parabens, which wash away the protective layer of skin and hair.

Now there are special products designed for very sensitive skin. Such shampoos allow you to achieve maximum effect in just a few applications. The main feature of such products is that after washing, the curls become soft, obedient and alive. You will definitely notice the difference, even if you have previously used the most expensive product that you could find in the store.

Hair quickly adapts to products for sensitive scalp. It, in turn, will gently cleanse your curls of chemicals and oils that settle after washing with a regular shampoo. To achieve the desired result, it is recommended to use a conditioner or conditioner from the same series.

How to determine the type of sensitive skin

To understand which shampoo is best for you, you need to analyze your scalp type:

  • Pay attention to the face, namely the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. Mixed (combination) skin is divided into several zones: dry and oily. In this case, it is worth choosing products that do not contain lauryl sulfate salts. Pay attention to the packaging so that the composition does not contain such a value as SLS.

  • Dry skin is usually accompanied by itching and flaking. After any cosmetic product, there is a feeling of tightness, and sometimes there is redness, rash or irritation. In this case, you need to use shampoos that will be saturated with antioxidants and moisturizing ingredients.
  • Oily skin is more likely to develop acne. In this case, you need to purchase a product that gently and carefully cleaned, dried and disinfected. The main thing is that such products do not contain alcohol, fragrances, parabens and sulfates.

There are very few people on the planet who have beautiful and healthy skin. While some are trying to get rid of acne that leaves scars, others are trying numerous masks to moisturize the epidermis:

  1. Before you buy your first shampoo for sensitive skin, carefully analyze the products that are already on your bathroom shelf. First of all, you need to pay attention to the price. As a rule, the more expensive cosmetics, the softer and more hypoallergenic they are, as the manufacturer replaces cheap sulfates with more natural and organic ingredients.
  2. Study the composition of the product. There should not be such an indicator as SLS, which means that the product contains sulfates, which, although they create your favorite voluminous foam, only cover the hair with a harmful film.
  3. Don't buy the first shampoo you see.
  4. Visit a professional beautician and dermatologist to help you find the right product for your scalp and hair. In this case, you will not need to buy shampoo, which is disposed of after the first use.

What shampoos should be preferred

It is recommended to choose products that contain aloe vera extracts, because this plant has antiseptic and wound healing properties. In addition, aloe vera is hypoallergenic, causing a reaction only with individual intolerance.

A good shampoo should gently cleanse the hair of produced sebum, dirt, dust. After washing, you should not get a dry mop, but soft, shiny and moisturized curls that are easy to comb and do not fluff much. A good shampoo should promote hair growth, not hair loss!

There is no need to make a connection between a fantastic foam and a great cosmetic product. Foaming only indicates that concentrates and chemicals have been added to the shampoo. Foam should be, but in moderation, only acting as a lubricant that allows you to gently clean the strand by strand without damaging or destroying their structures.

A good shampoo is one that you can wash your hair 1-2 times a week, not every day. For daily use, there are separate tools.

If you have curly, thick hair

Curly hair is almost always dry, as all the nutrients do not saturate the ends due to the curly structure of the curl. In this case, you need to choose a more gentle washing agent, especially if you have to clean your hair every day. The main thing is to focus on cleaning the scalp, and the tips must be nourished separately, using conditioner, oils, conditioners.

An allergic reaction may appear unnoticed, manifesting itself as itching or irritation on the scalp. For this reason, many do not suspect that their shampoo is simply not suitable. In order not to aggravate the situation, it is recommended to contact a trichologist, dermatologist and cosmetologist - specialists who will tell you how to properly take care of your hair, accelerate its growth and prevent hair loss!

Itching, peeling, burning - this is an incomplete list of troubles that people with increased sensitivity of the scalp face. In such a situation, the right hair wash can help, designed to meet the needs of too delicate and easily vulnerable skin. Now on the shelves of stores a huge number of cosmetic products are offered, including widely advertised ones, offering to solve this problem. It would seem, buy and use, but not everything is so simple. Before you buy a shampoo for sensitive scalp, you should find out why exactly the problem arose, what components should be part of a really working product, and only then buy it. Otherwise, there is a risk, at best, not to solve the problem, and at worst, to further aggravate the already deplorable condition of the scalp.

What is it - sensitive skin?

As a rule, the scalp signals about increased vulnerability as follows: a rash and inflammation, peeling, redness, itching and burning occur. This condition affects the hair in the most negative way, they become dry or greasy, lose their shine, split and fall out. All this is sufficient reason to start choosing the appropriate shampoo for yourself.

These extremely unpleasant symptoms arise under the influence of many factors, the most common of which are:

  • hormonal changes in the body (including pregnancy);
  • too frequent chemical staining;
  • unsuitable care products;
  • thermal effect on the hair (curling, styling with a curling iron or ironing);
  • beriberi, climate change, stress.

In some cases, the acquired increased vulnerability of the skin can be confused with an allergic reaction and the appearance of dandruff (with peeling).

Indeed, the signs of these problems are very similar, but there are signs that distinguish them from each other:

  • With increased sensitivity, peeling is detected in separate areas heads: the temporal and occipital parts and along the edge of the hairline, the skin particles are held tightly, without crumbling onto clothes. Dandruff spreads all over the head and falls on clothes.
  • Allergy - temporary phenomenon, and if you do not use cosmetic or other means that caused it, it will disappear without a trace in a couple of days. If itching, peeling and burning do not go away for a long time, then they have nothing to do with allergies.

Very often, the symptoms of hypersensitivity are preferred to be ignored until the problem turns from purely cosmetic to medical. This condition without the necessary treatment leads to the formation of cracks and wounds, alopecia (baldness), seborrhea.

Therefore, trying to help yourself with the usual remedies for dandruff or any other is pointless and even harmful. From such “help”, the scalp is irritated even more, microcracks appear through which bacteria enter the dermis, which can lead to very serious problems.

Only specially designed shampoos based on skin-regenerating substances will bring real benefit in the case of special sensitivity.

How to choose?

In this case, you will need medicated or professional shampoos, marked "for sensitive scalp", designed for daily use and do not contain excess chemicals (perfumes, dyes). It is best if the shampoo is whitish or transparent, with a neutral aroma or without it at all.
Medicinal preparations are sold only in a pharmacy or a trichologist. People who have other related problems need a mandatory consultation with a specialist before buying: seborrhea, allergies, severe inflammation, ulcers or baldness, in such cases you definitely can’t do with ordinary shampoos.

In beauty salons you can buy professional teachers products designed for the care of sensitive skin. They gently wash the hair, moisturize and nourish the skin. In addition to this, they will relieve itching, rashes and a constant feeling of tightness, and some are also intended for the treatment of seborrhea.

If the scalp is not too irritated, shampoos designed for babies can be used as a temporary measure.

They are made with a minimum amount of chemical additives and are as neutral as possible, so they will make washing your hair more comfortable. However, it will not be possible to completely eliminate the problem with their help, because there are no medicinal components in them.

Necessary and Desirable Components of the Right Tool

When buying a shampoo for sensitive skin, you need to pay attention to three main quality indicators: composition, appearance and smell. Too pungent smell, unnaturally bright color speak of a huge number of fragrances and chemical-based dyes, which should be avoided in every possible way, the same applies to surfactants, sulfates, thickeners and preservatives. Well, if the composition will be present natural ingredients.

Tar-based shampoos are great for seborrhea, however, they should not be used too often.

A quality preparation will necessarily contain the following substances (not necessarily all at once, but the more of them, the better):

  • Instead of chemical detergent components, there should be herbal supplements that help cleanse the hair and scalp, most often coconut extract.
  • Panthenol, restoring and maintaining normal moisture balance,
    extracts from peppermint and lavender, relieving irritation and itching.
  • Substances that help restore normal blood circulation and remove dead skin flakes resulting from peeling - pyroctane olamine and Ps 21.
  • Oils and extracts of plants softening, protecting and relieving itching and inflammation: aloe vera and shea, calophyllum, tea tree, jojoba, macadamia.
  • Glycerin - maximally softening and restoring the skin.

DIY

If you can’t find the right remedy, and salon procedures and medications are too expensive or don’t help, then you can cook all natural shampoo with your own hands. This is often very effective, especially if the scalp is exhausted by chemicals and needs nourishment and hydration. Another advantage of home therapy is that the product does not contain chemicals or components that cause an allergic reaction.

Here are some of the simplest and most effective recipes:

With chamomile

Suitable for hair of any type, relieve irritation and itching, soothe and heal small wounds and cracks. It will take about 50 grams of dried chamomile flowers (2 tablespoons with a slide), 250 ml of water, sage oil, rosemary, tea tree, cedar, 1 tsp. a spoonful of castor oil, 50 grams of liquid glycerin soap.

How to do:

  • Boil chamomile with boiling water, wrap and leave for half an hour.
  • Prepare an oil mixture, mix two drops (no more, it is convenient to use a regular pipette) of essential oils with castor oil.
  • Mix the resulting mixture with soap and chamomile, shake thoroughly.

The shampoo is ready to use immediately, and its leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 14 days, used every 2 days.

From rye bread and kefir

Nourishes the scalp, eliminates peeling. It will take only two ingredients: rye flour bread - 100 gr., kefir with the maximum fat content that you can find - 100 ml.

Soak the bread in kefir and leave for two hours at room temperature, after which everything is well beaten with a blender until a homogeneous structure. It is undesirable to store such a shampoo.

From gelatin for sensitive scalp and dry hair

Restores, nourishes, moisturizes, relieves discomfort. Required: 1 tbsp. l. dry gelatin, 1 tsp. l. natural apple cider vinegar, 2 drops each of jasmine oils (can be replaced with rosemary) and sage, 70 ml of water.

How to do:

  • Pour gelatin with water and leave to swell for about 40-50 minutes.
  • Strain the swollen gelatin and mix with vinegar and oils.

This shampoo does not store, requires very thorough rinsing.

Red clay shampoo

Ideal for the treatment of sensitive scalp, softens, eliminates burning, itching and tightness. Required: 2 tbsp. tablespoons of red clay, enough water so that the mixture reaches the consistency of sour cream, 2 drops each of rosemary (jasmine) and sage oils. After use, rinse your hair with acidified water with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.

Homemade shampoos act on sensitive scalp in the most beneficial way, however, there are some nuances in their use: in order for the mixture to work in full force, it must be kept on the hair for at least about 10 minutes, no less.

As a result, the hair becomes stronger, the scalp is healthier, itching, flaking, redness and inflammation disappear, and this fully justifies the time spent preparing home remedies.

  • Among the products intended to care for the hair, there should not be deep cleansing products containing acids, alcohol, zinc, sulfates or abrasive particles, they are too aggressive and can do much harm.
  • It is undesirable to style your hair with devices that heat up during operation (ironing iron, curling iron, hair dryer at maximum temperature) and a comb made of plastic or other non-natural materials, it is best to take a wooden one.
  • Lightening or dyeing hair with ammonia-based hair dye is a prohibited procedure for damaged or overly sensitive scalp.
  • A headdress in a cold winter or hot summer will protect your hair from damage and the harmful effects of the environment.
  • Usually a good result is obtained by visiting beauty salons, which have developed entire professional programs for moisturizing and restoring the skin. The rehabilitation complex usually includes various masks, powerful special preparations and even massages (for example, shiatsu).
  • If the problem is not one day, and relief, despite all efforts, does not come, only a trichologist can help, who will find out the cause of the problem, prescribe a treatment that includes vitamin therapy, regenerating procedures, special hair washing products, as well as a diet, excluding spicy, fatty, smoked foods, red juices and alcohol.

When buying a shampoo for sensitive scalp, you should not blindly trust reviews on the Internet or the advice of friends and acquaintances: what suits one person may not suit another and will only aggravate the situation.

There are only a few general recommendations: before buying, check the smell, color, labeling and composition of the shampoo, do not forget to test for allergies immediately before use and do not change the cosmetic product often, especially if the previous one was quite suitable for you, hair and skin will have to get used to each new shampoo again. The right preparation will help you solve the problem and enjoy the health and beauty of your hair again.
