As a rule, Otrivin is well tolerated and does not cause side effects, the effect of the drug begins almost immediately after use and lasts up to three hours. Otrivin has long and firmly taken a leading place among the medications to combat the common cold and is available without a prescription.

Indications for Otrivin's use

Among the many areas of application of the drug in ENT practice, it is most often recommended:

  • with a cold of a bacterial nature
  • with exacerbation of allergic rhinitis
  • with sinusitis and sinusitis
  • with otitis media
  • in preparation for rhinoscopy

Composition, dosage, form of release and use of Otrivin

Composition and form

The drug Otrivin is not complex, therefore it contains only one substance - xylometazoline hydrochloride, depending on the purpose, it is contained in 0.5 mg (children's release form) or 1 mg (for adults) in 1 ml of drops. As a rule, one bottle of Otrivin contains 10 ml of the drug.

Method of application and dosage

Otrivin is presented in two forms - spray and nasal drops. The dosages of the drug presented below are approximate. More accurate ones are prescribed by the doctor based on the severity of the disease and the age of the patient.

Instructions for use Otrivin in the form of a spray

Before using the spray, it is necessary to clean the nose with special care, trying not to injure the mucous membrane. Saline flushing is best for this.

Spray Otrivin is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age. For older categories of patients, one injection into each nostril is sufficient, no more than 3 times a day, for no more than 7 days.

Instructions for use Otrivin in the form of drops for the nose

Recommendations for preparing for the use of the drug are the same as in the case of a spray. The only difference is that Otrivin nasal drops are allowed to be used by the smallest ones that cannot yet blow their nose, so small enemas or syringes can be used to remove mucus (in no case do not remove mucus from the internal cavities of the grooves, only at the nostrils)

Young children (up to 6 years old) are prescribed Otrivin baby drops (0.05%). For infants, one, for older children, two drops in each nostril, two to three times a day.

For patients older than 6 years: 2-3 drops of 0.1% Otrivin, up to 4 times a day.

You can use Otrivin in the form of drops for no more than 10 days in a row.

Otrivin Baby (postgraduate student)

Otrivin baby is a nasal aspirator for children. Its purpose is to reduce the symptoms of the common cold in infants and young children. In addition to the actual therapeutic purpose, the aspirator is convenient for removing mucus from the nasal grooves and personal hygiene of the child.

Instructions for using Otrivin during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Since the drug has a vasoconstrictor effect, it should be used with extreme caution during pregnancy. It can affect the narrowing of the blood vessels through which the fetus is nourished. Also, although there are no studies proving the possibility of getting the components of the drug into breast milk, it should be treated with great caution when breastfeeding. Therefore, in both cases, Otrivin should be prescribed and taken under medical supervision.

Some nuances of using Otrivin

  1. The maximum duration of use of the Otrivin drug is 10 days. This is due to the high likelihood of addiction to the drug.
  2. If the medicine is ineffective, it is not worth increasing the dosage, especially for the elderly and children.
  3. The indicated rates of taking the drug do not affect the coordination of movement.
  4. For those who have problems with the cardiovascular system, Otrivin should be prescribed in minimal doses.

Possible side effects of Otrivin

If the instructions are followed correctly, Otrivin has practically no side effects, however, sometimes it is possible: excessive dryness of the nasal mucosa, its irritation, tingling, burning, as well as nasal congestion and sneezing.

Very rarely, with prolonged use are possible: palpitations, swelling of the mucosa, dizziness and headache, nausea, sleep disturbance. With personal intolerance, an allergic reaction is likely.

Contraindications to Otrivin

Otrivin is contraindicated in tachycardia, arterial hypertension, hyperthyroidism, atrophic rhinitis, glaucoma, as well as hypersensitivity to Otrivin components. For diabetics, take only as directed by your doctor.

Instructions for use Otrivin baby includes information on how to use nasal drops and an aspirator intended for young patients. In addition, Otrivin complex for adults is presented on the pharmaceutical market, which has a pronounced vasoconstrictor effect. How to use Otrivin products for different age groups?

The Otrivin series, intended for children, includes drops for moisturizing and irrigating the nose in infants from the first days of life, vasoconstrictor drops and a nasal aspirator. First of all, this series was developed for the purpose of caring for the nasal cavity of young children, in order to effectively moisturize and irrigate the sensitive children's nasal membranes, as well as to clear the nose of mucous secretions for those children who still do not know how to blow their nose on their own.

Otrivin baby preparations, created on the basis of sea water enriched with microelements, have, according to specialists in the field of pediatrics and otolaryngology, the following therapeutic properties:

  • Improvement of the functional and structural state of the nasal membranes.
  • Gentle moisturizing and irrigation of the nasal cavity.
  • Liquefaction and facilitation of the processes of removing nasal secretions of a mucous nature.
  • Cleansing the baby's nasal cavity from dust particles, allergens and other pathogens.
  • Strengthening the immune system.

Otrivin helps to relieve the baby from excessive dryness of the mucous membranes of the nose. They prevent the appearance of dry, and also have a preventive effect.

Drops for babies with a vasoconstrictive effect, in comparison with similar products of the adult series, act extremely gently and sparingly, without causing irritation or addiction when used correctly. This nasal remedy helps to facilitate the processes of nasal breathing in infants from the age of three months, eliminate rhinorrhea, severe swelling and congestion, localized in the nasal cavity.

The nasal aspirator is used mainly for hygienic purposes, because effective nasal cleaning is extremely important for babies who do not yet know how to blow their own noses. With this device, you can easily and safely clean the nasal passages of the baby from the accumulated secretions of the mucous type, with rhinitis of various etiologies. In addition, according to experts, if you use an aspirator before instillation, this significantly increases the effective susceptibility of drugs.

Indications and contraindications for the use of children's drops

  • Runny nose of allergic origin.
  • Colds and respiratory diseases, at the stage of exacerbation.
  • Dryness of the mucous membranes of the nose.
  • The appearance of dry crusts in the nasal cavity of the child.
  • Postponed surgical interventions of an otolaryngological nature, in order to prevent the development of inflammatory processes.
  • Pathological processes localized in the area of the paranasal sinuses.

Also, the use of this tool provides effective prevention of the development of infectious processes. Children's drops of the Otrivin series of vasoconstrictive action are prescribed for small patients in the following cases:

  • Manifestations of allergic reactions.
  • Rhinitis occurring in acute form ().
  • Eustacheite.
  • Otitis media.
  • Blocking the processes of nasal breathing.

These vasoconstrictor drops are used by pediatric otolaryngologists before carrying out diagnostic and surgical procedures in order to eliminate swelling in the sinuses.

As for contraindications, this medicine from the Otrivin children's line, due to its natural composition and mild, exclusively local effects, not recommended for use only in case of individual intolerance and excessive sensitivity of a small patient to the active ingredients of the drug, as well as an increased tendency to allergic reactions to sea water.

Vasoconstrictor agents have a wider range of contraindications. These include the following factors:

  • Age category of the baby, under three months.
  • Arrhythmia.
  • Elevated blood pressure or intraocular pressure.
  • Pathology of the thyroid gland.
  • Violations in the functioning of the endocrine system, occurring in severe form.

The aspirator has no contraindications. However, it should be used for babies under two months old. especially carefully so as not to provoke an increase in pressure in the ear canal. It is also forbidden to use this device with an increased tendency to nosebleeds and allergic reactions to the materials from which the device is made.

What adverse reactions are possible in children?

In the case of correct and reasonable use, children's drops are well tolerated by small patients without causing any harm. However, with too frequent use and excessive excess of the standard dosage, the following undesirable reactions may develop:

  • Feeling of itching, burning in the mucous membranes of the nose.
  • Irritation.
  • Paroxysmal sneezing.
  • Puffiness.
  • Increased nasal secretions.
  • Manifestation of signs of allergy.

When using nasal vasoconstrictor drops in small patients, the following side effects may occur:

  • Nausea and bouts of vomiting.
  • An increase in blood pressure figures.
  • Heart rhythm disturbances.
  • Cardiopalmus.

It is quite possible to avoid problems by using drops only as prescribed by the doctor and strictly adhering to the dosage and duration of therapy!

Application rules

Instructions for use for Otrivin baby recommends injecting 2-4 drops into each nasal passage of the baby, from 1 to 3 times during the day. A small child should be laid down, turn his head a little to the side. Before instillation, it is recommended to clean the baby's nose from mucous accumulation using a nasal aspirator of the same series. Drops are alternately injected into each nostril of the baby, and then the excess medication is removed along with mucous nasal secretions.

Drops are injected 1-2 drops into each nostril, 1-2 times a day. The time interval between instillations should be at least 6 hours.

The duration of the therapeutic course will be determined by the pediatrician, depending on the indications and the individual characteristics of the small patient. However, we recall that using nasal remedies for more than five days in a row banned to avoid possible addiction and atrophic lesions of the nasal mucosa!

Description and principle of action Otrivin Complex

Otrivin Complex belongs to the pharmacological group of local vasoconstrictor drugs used in otolaryngological practice. Available in the form of a nasal spray.

The principle of action of the drug is based on the ability of its active substances to narrow the nasal capillaries, as well as to suppress the functioning of the secretory glands. The spray facilitates the processes of nasal breathing, eliminates swelling and hyperemia, reduces the amount of nasal secretions, prevents the development of sinusitis, sinusitis, and inflammatory complications. When used correctly, the spray does not dry out the mucous membranes of the nose and does not cause irritation.

The drug begins to act within 5 minutes after administration, and the therapeutic effect persists for a long time (about 8 hours).

What will help?

Otrivin, as indicated by the instructions for use, has the following clinical indications for use:

  • Allergic rhinitis.
  • Hay fever (hay fever).
  • Otorhinolaryngological diseases of viral or bacterial origin.
  • Eustacheite.
  • Sinusitis.
  • Sinusitis.
  • Excessive swelling and hyperemia, localized in the nasal cavity.

Also, the spray can be used in otolaryngological practice to eliminate increased swelling, before rhinoscopy and other diagnostic procedures.

To whom is Otrivin contraindicated?

Like some nasal vasoconstrictors, the use of Otrivin Complex is limited by a number of contraindications. Doctors do not recommend using the spray if the patient has the following diseases:

  • Glaucoma closed-angle.
  • Transferred surgical interventions in the area of the meninges.
  • Individual intolerance and hypersensitivity to the active ingredients of the spray.
  • Enlargement of the prostate.
  • Adenoma.

  • Increased tendency to nosebleeds.
  • Elevated blood pressure.
  • Intestinal obstruction.

Spray Otrivin is contraindicated for the treatment of children under the age of eighteen. Absolutely not use the spray at the very beginning of pregnancy (the fetal organs and systems are being laid). In the future, expectant and nursing mothers can use Otrivin, but only as prescribed by the attending physician in minimal dosages and under the strict supervision of a specialist!

Possible adverse reactions

During the therapeutic course, there is a possibility of the following adverse reactions in patients:

  • Increased swelling.
  • Manifestation of allergic reactions.
  • Hives.
  • Nausea.
  • An attack of vomiting.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Lachrymation.
  • Attacks of sneezing.
  • Headache.

  • Heart rhythm disturbances.
  • Attacks of dizziness.
  • Violations of visual function.
  • Sleep disorders.
  • Increased tendency to nosebleeds.
  • Dyspepsia.
  • Difficulty in urination.

In most cases, the appearance of the above side effects is due to the uncontrolled use of the spray and the excess of the permissible daily dosage of the drug. If any adverse reactions occur, stop using the spray and seek the advice of a qualified specialist!

Consequences of an overdose

An overdose of Otrivin, which occurs in an acute form, is a fairly rare occurrence, which is usually associated with the internal use of the drug. In this case, patients experience the following symptoms:

  • Nausea and bouts of vomiting.
  • Decrease in body temperature.
  • Increased sweating.
  • Headache.
  • Slow heart rate.
  • Increased blood pressure (even a hypertensive crisis is possible).
  • Falling into a coma.
  • The appearance of hallucinations.
  • Respiratory depression.

An acute dosage of the active substances of Otrivin poses a serious threat to the patient's life. Therefore, when the first alarming signs appear, it is necessary to call an ambulance and wash the sick stomach. Further therapeutic measures will be prescribed by the doctor, depending on individual indicators.

Quite often there are cases of chronic overdose, which develops against the background of a long, uncontrolled use of the spray and exceeding the recommended doses. Patients develop swelling in the cavity, develop signs of taphylaxis and permanent difficulties with nasal breathing, atrophic changes in the nasal mucosa, as well as drug-induced rhinitis. Gradually, addiction to the drug begins, the effectiveness of the drug decreases.

How to use the spray?

Instructions for use Otrivin Complex recommends injecting a spray of 1 injection into each nostril of the patient, 1-3 times during the day. The time interval between injections of the spray should be at least four hours. The optimal duration of the therapeutic course is 1 week. Treatment can be extended by a specialist if indicated.

The Otrivin series is designed to improve nasal breathing and eliminate painful symptoms in a number of diseases of allergic or otolaryngological origin. On the pharmaceutical market, there are products of this series intended for various age categories. An individual consultation with your doctor will help you choose the right drug, determine the desired dosage and duration of the therapeutic course!

Otrivin is a vasoconstrictor used for nasal congestion. It is available in the form of a spray or drops. The main active ingredient is xylometazoline. Once on the mucous membrane, it stimulates adrenoreceptors, as a result, swelling and inflammation are removed. The product is colorless and odorless. The taste of Otrivin is slightly bitter. This is felt when the medicine flows down the back of the nasopharynx.

The main active component of the Otrivin complex is xylometazoline. This substance has a balanced pH, thanks to which patients with sensitive nasal mucosa tolerate Otrivin treatment well.

Additional components include: hypromellose and sorbitol. They additionally moisturize overdried mucous membranes.

The composition of the spray with eucalyptus and menthol also includes eucalyptol and levomenthol. They create a feeling of freshness and have a cooling effect.

If you use the drug in a strictly specified dosage, then it practically does not enter the general bloodstream. Local action lasts up to 8 - 10 hours.

Release form Otrivin

The drug is used only locally. For ease of use by different age groups, it is produced in the following forms:

  • Drops - they are for children (xylometazoline concentration 0.05%) and for adults (with a concentration of 0.1%). The volume of the tube can be 5 or 10 milliliters.
  • Nasal spray - it is available in two forms, depending on the concentration (0.05 or 0.1%). The volume of the bottle is 10 milliliters.
  • Spray Otrivin with eucalyptus and menthol - it is usually used by adults, since it contains 0.1% xylometazoline. In the produced bottle - 10 milliliters.

Also in pharmacies you can buy an aspirator Otrivin Baby. It is produced in a bottle - a dropper. Volume - 5 ml. Sprays are available for irrigation of the nasal cavity. It can be Otrivin sea and Otrivin sea forte. Both preparations contain sea water and help to disinfect the mucous membranes of the nose.

Otrivin spray is considered the most popular. Thanks to the spray effect, the drug gets even into hard-to-reach places where drops do not penetrate. This allows you to increase the chances of a quick recovery.

When is the drug used?

The instructions for use indicate that the drug can be used in the following cases:

  • In time ;
  • With allergic rhinitis;
  • To improve breathing in colds (ARVI);
  • During otitis;
  • With congestion of the sinuses during diseases of the respiratory tract;
  • Before rhinoscopy;
  • Before preparing for surgery.

Otrivin drops or spray relieve congestion and make breathing easier. But they cannot be used as the only drug for the treatment of the nose. The tool is used as one of the medicines during complex therapy.

Main contraindications

Otrivin has a therapeutic effect, but the drug has a number of limitations in its use. It cannot be used for:

  • Glaucoma;
  • arterial hypertension;
  • tachycardia;
  • If the baby has intolerance to one of the components of Otrivin;
  • During atrophic rhinitis;
  • With severe atherosclerosis.

Vasoconstrictor drops and spray should not be used if the child has problems with the cardiovascular system or has diabetes.

What are the side effects?

The drug rarely causes unpleasant reactions. The list is listed in Otrivin's instructions for children. Among the consequences may be:

  • Dryness of the nasal mucosa;
  • Frequent sneezing, burning sensation in the nose;
  • Swelling of the nasal mucosa;
  • Hypersecretion.

If Otrivin is used for a long time and uncontrollably, this will lead to systemic side effects indicated in the instructions:

  • Depressive state - the baby becomes aggressive and irritable;
  • Nausea and vomiting;
  • The child has tachycardia or arrhythmia, an increase in pressure is possible;
  • Blurred vision.

Also, long-term use of Otrivin can lead to allergic reactions.

Instructions for use for children

The dosage and duration of use is prescribed by the attending physician, but it is usually recommended to use it as follows:

  1. Drops with a concentration of xylometazoline 0.05% drip one or two drops once a day if the child is not yet 1 year old.
  2. Drops of 0.05% are instilled 1 - 2 drops up to 3 times a day, if the baby's age is from 1 to 6 years. Do not use the drug more than once every 7-10 hours.
  3. Drops with an active substance concentration of 0.1% can be used by children of senior school age. They are used no more than 4 times a day, 1-3 drops in each nasal passage.

The use of Otrivin spray for children is carried out in the following dosage:

  1. Babies under 6 years old are given 1 injection, no more than 3 times a day.
  2. Children who are already 6 years old are prescribed one injection two to four times a day. But you can not use the spray more than 5 times a day.

Attention! Do not use the drug for more than ten days in a row.

How to store Otrivin

The average storage temperature is from 15 to 20 degrees. It is impossible for the temperature to be higher than 30 degrees or 25 degrees (if we are talking about sprays with menthol and eucalyptus).

Shelf life Otrivin - 3 years from the date of issue and subject to proper storage. The tool can be bought at any pharmacy, without a doctor's prescription.

Basic analogues

The effect of other drugs is similar to Otrivin. These are the same vasoconstrictor nasal drops for children or sprays. Their effectiveness is based on xylometazoline.

Analogues include:

  • Nazivin;
  • Sanorin;
  • Tizin;
  • Afrin;
  • Rinazolin, etc.

How to use Otrivin Baby

How to use the Otrivin baby aspirator

This is a device that helps to remove mucus from the nasal passages of the baby. The device is harmless, it can be thermally processed, unlike electric aspirators.

  1. Lay the baby on his back with his head slightly tilted down. Next, take the drops and drop one or two drops of Otrivin into the child's left nostril.
  2. Now lower the nozzle into the same nostril, and take the mouthpiece into your mouth. Pull the mucus into the nozzle, but do it gently, without sudden movements, so as not to frighten the baby.
  3. Replace the nozzle with a new one, and do the same with the other nasal passage. Pre-drop a couple of drops of Otrivin Baby into it.

The procedure is performed 3-4 times a day until all the symptoms of the disease completely disappear. Before use, you should go for a consultation with a children's ENT.

Conclusion

Otrivin for children is a nasal spray or drops. The drug is prescribed for nasal congestion in children and adults. It has only a temporary relief effect, so I use Otrivin in combination with other drugs. Nevertheless, the drug makes breathing easier, as evidenced by numerous reviews. The product should not be used for more than 10 days in a row. Treatment in young children (under 6 years of age) should be carried out under the supervision of the attending physician.

Pharmacotherapeutic group: anticongestive agent.
ATX code: R01AB06

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with α-adrenergic action, causes constriction of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating swelling and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Relieves congestion, facilitating nasal breathing with rhinitis. Ipratropium bromide has an anticholinergic effect. When administered intranasally, it reduces nasal secretion, stopping the flow from the nose due to competitive inhibition of cholinergic receptors located in the epithelium of the nasal cavity. In therapeutic concentrations, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause its hyperemia.

The drug begins to act after 5-10 minutes and has a lasting effect for 6-8 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

With intranasal use, ipratropium bromide and xylometazoline hydrochloride are poorly absorbed and are present in blood plasma in small quantities.

Indications for medical use

Symptomatic treatment of edema and congestion of the nasal cavity, acute respiratory diseases with symptoms of rhinitis (runny nose), accompanied by congestion, acute allergic rhinitis, hay fever, sinusitis.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, hypersensitivity to atropine or similar compounds (hyoscyamine, scopolamine), glaucoma, condition after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy, surgical interventions on the meninges (in history), pregnancy and breastfeeding, atrophic rhinitis, age up to 18 years.

Carefully

Arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, functional class III-IV angina pectoris, bladder neck obstruction, interureteral fold stenosis, prostatic hyperplasia. Caution is advised in the treatment of patients predisposed to epistaxis, with sensitivity to adrenergic drugs, which can lead to symptoms such as sleep disturbance, dizziness, skeletal muscle tremor, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure; paralytic ileus and patients with cystic fibrosis.
Caution is advised when using the drug in a patient with a history of immediate hypersensitivity reactions, including urticaria, angioedema, rash, bronchospasm, laryngeal edema and anaphylactic reactions.
If you have one of the listed diseases, be sure to consult your doctor before taking the drug.

Use during pregnancy and during breastfeeding

The use of the drug during pregnancy and during breastfeeding is contraindicated.

Dosage and administration

Intranasally.
For patients over the age of 18: 1 spray in each nasal passage 3 times a day. The interval between reapplication should be at least 6 hours. The daily dose should not exceed more than 3 injections in each nasal passage.

Do not cut the dispenser tip. Before using the spray for the first time, press the pump dispenser at least 4 times. With further use, additional activation of the dosing device is not required. If there is an uneven dosing of the spray or a break in the use of the drug was more than 6 days, it is necessary to press the pump dispenser 4 times again to activate it. The drug is used for no more than 7 days without consulting a doctor. It is recommended to stop treatment immediately after relief of symptoms, even if this happened earlier than after 7 days (maximum duration of therapy), in order to minimize the risk of adverse events. Prolonged use of xylometazoline can cause swelling of the nasal mucosa and increased secretion, which is due to the development of increased cell sensitivity to the active ingredients of the drug, the so-called reverse effect.

Use in the Elderly: There is limited experience with the drug in people over 70 years of age.

One injection (140 µl) of Otrivin® Complex contains about 70 µg of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 84 µg of ipratropium bromide.

If any of the side effects indicated in the instructions are aggravated, or you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, tell your doctor.

Overdose

With nasal application of the drug Otrivin® Complex, acute overdose is unlikely, because. absorption of the drug is very small.

In case of an overdose of xylometazoline, the clinical picture is characterized by: dizziness, nausea, sweating, a decrease in body temperature, headache, bradycardia, disturbance of accommodation, arterial hypertension, respiratory depression, coma, convulsions. Arterial hypertension may be replaced by arterial hypotension. Symptomatic therapy should be carried out under medical supervision.

With excessive use of ipratropium bromide, an overdose is unlikely due to the extremely insignificant absorption of the substance into the blood, but dry mouth, difficulty in accommodation, and tachycardia may develop. Treatment is symptomatic.

A significant overdose can cause symptoms associated with the anticholinergic effect of the drug on the part of the central nervous system, including hallucinations, for which cholinesterase inhibitors are prescribed.

Appropriate supportive measures should be taken in case of any suspicion of overdose, if necessary, prompt symptomatic treatment is indicated under the supervision of a physician. These measures should include observing the patient for six hours. In case of severe poisoning with cardiac arrest, resuscitation should continue for at least 1 hour.

Interaction with other drugs

The drug is incompatible with the simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), tri- and tetracyclic antidepressants, as well as in the case of taking these drugs within the previous 2 weeks.

Sympathomimetic drugs cause the release of catecholamines, including norepinephrine, which has a vasoconstrictor effect, resulting in increased blood pressure. With a significant increase in blood pressure, treatment with the drug

Otrivin® Complex should be canceled, symptomatic treatment should be carried out.

Use with tri- and tetracyclic antidepressants may enhance the sympathomimetic effect of xylometazoline.

With the concomitant administration of other drugs with anticholinergic activity, it is possible to enhance the anticholinergic effect of ipratropium bromide. The above interactions were studied individually for both active substances that make up the Otrivin® Complex preparation. In combination for both active substances, the above interactions have not been studied.

special instructions

Before use, clean the nasal passages.

Should not be used for a long time, for example, in chronic rhinitis.

Do not allow the drug to get into or around the eyes. In case of contact, temporary blurred vision, irritation, pain, redness of the eyes may occur, and an exacerbation of angle-closure glaucoma may develop. Rinse eyes with plenty of cold water in case of contact with the drug and consult a doctor if there is pain in the eyes or blurred vision.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms

When using the drug Otrivin® Complex, there were cases of visual impairment (including blurred vision and pupil dilation), dizziness and fatigue. Patients should be warned that if such symptoms appear, they should refrain from driving vehicles, operating machinery, and from performing activities in which such symptoms may entail a risk to the patients themselves and to other people.

Otrivin- vasoconstrictor drug for topical use in ENT practice (decongestant). Xylometazoline (the active substance of the drug Otrivin) has an alpha-adrenomimetic effect. It causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, eliminating swelling and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Facilitates nasal breathing in rhinitis.

The drug is well tolerated by patients with sensitive mucous membranes, its effect does not interfere with the separation of mucus. The drug has a balanced pH value, characteristic of the nasal cavity. The composition of the drug includes inactive components - sorbitol and hypromellose, which are moisturizers, which can reduce the symptoms of irritation and dryness of the nasal mucosa that occur with prolonged use of xylometazoline.

In therapeutic concentrations, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs within a few minutes after application and lasts for 12 hours.
