All hopes of going to the Olympic Games faded. And soon Till had to give up sports forever. During training, he suffered an injury to his abdominal muscles.

Creation

Then the guy decided to continue his studies and entered Fakhshul (an educational institution similar to Soviet technical schools). He remembered his childhood village hobbies and began to study carpentry. Thus he avoided military service. As he now says in his rare interviews, serving the state was contrary to his life principles.

Five years later, Till was already working in his acquired specialty and working part-time in a basket weaving workshop. But such activities turned out to be too boring for him and did not really interest the guy.

It so happened that Lindemann soon acquired a new hobby. While doing tedious basket weaving, poems were born in Till’s head, and songs in his soul, which within a few years were destined to shake the whole world. On top of that, the guy received an old drum kit as a gift, which he immediately put into use. In the GDR at that time, many young people organized musical groups, and Till was simply fired up by a similar idea.

In 1986, a musical group appeared in the city of Schwerin, taking the name “First Arsch”, which translated meant “First Ass”. True, they officially wrote the name a little differently, so as not to displease the authorities - “First Art”. Till chose the role of drummer for himself. Firstly, he didn’t really want to get in the public’s eye, and secondly, he wasn’t very good at playing the guitar. He thought that hitting the drum with sticks would be much easier.

Till did not bother his parents or sister with his new hobby. By that time, he was already living separately, renting half of the house from an elderly granny. Its doors were always open to friends, acquaintances and just good people who dropped by for another party or drinking session. The group consisted of a drummer and a bassist, their guitarists were invited and changed frequently.

In the early 90s, Till began writing song lyrics. When the Berlin Wall collapsed, Lindemann and his old friend Richard Kruspe began thinking about creating a new group. Richard noticed that when Till is doing something, he always sings, and very loudly. He suggested that he change the position of drummer to vocalist, but at the same time insisted on a trip to Berlin. Till did not want to leave; he was never attracted to big cities. For three days Kruspe persuaded his friend, and Lindemann agreed, but on the condition that if they did not achieve anything in six months, they would immediately return to Schwerin.

In February 1994, a new band called “Rammstein” won a competition for young bands in Berlin, thereby gaining the right to record in a professional studio. Criticism intensified after a video clip for the single “Stripped” was shot in 1998 using fragments of Leni Riefenstahl’s documentary “Olympia” (a film about the XI Summer Olympic Games of 1936 in Berlin). Despite the fact that some fragments from the video were removed, accusations against the group of spreading “fascist” views and idealizing “National Socialist” aesthetics continued. At the beginning of 2004, reliable information appeared about the imminent release of a new album. A few months after this, the singles “Mein Teil” and “Amerika” were released. And finally, at the beginning of autumn, the fourth album was released, called Reise, Reise, which is very different from the style of the group’s past albums, which, however, did not prevent it from going platinum. The album was immediately accompanied by a tour, during which a single from the album, “Ohne dich,” was released. During the Reise, Reise Tour, the show lost many special effects (plastic phallus, burning cloak), but gained new ones instead.

In February 2005, a tour followed with the group Apocalyptica, after which the single “Keine Lust” and its video were released. In September, a video is released, and then the single “Benzin”, the song of the same name from which will be included on the next, fifth album of the group. Next month the album itself, called “Rosenrot”, is released, which contained 7 old tracks that were not included in the last album, and 4 new compositions. The single "Rosenrot" followed in December. In 2006, a concert DVD of Volkerball was released, planned for 2004, but released later. The disc received mostly positive reviews.

In 2008, after a three-year break, it became known that the group was recording a new album. On September 18, 2009, the first single from the new album, “Pussy,” was released, and in mid-December, the video “Ich tu dir weh” was released. The album itself, Liebe ist für alle da (Russian: “Love exists for everyone”), was released on October 16. On April 23, 2010, the premiere of the “Haifisch” video took place. The album was released on two discs - the first disc contained the album itself, the second – additional five songs recorded during the work on the album. The video clip for the song Pussy became very scandalous: throughout almost the entire video there are porn inserts demonstrating sexual acts with the participation of all the musicians of the group. As the group members later said, these were understudies. The video was banned from being shown on television.

On December 21, 2009, a video for the song “Ich tu dir weh” was released. The director was Jonas Akerlund. Rammstein were criticized by the state media control committee for content harmful to youth (German: Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien). This committee declared the song "Ich tu dir weh" to be a song praising violence and sadomasochism. In addition, one of the photographs inside the booklet depicts Richard ready to hit a naked woman, which is also considered by the committee as an unacceptable design for distribution among young people. On November 16, the group released a new version of the disc without the controversial song and photo. On April 23, 2010, the video “Haifisch” premiered.

On February 26, February 28 and March 1, 2010, the group held Russian concerts in support of this album, and on March 7, the band held its first concert in Minsk. This show became the most scandalous concert event in the history of Belarus. First, the veterans' council, and then the moral council, consisting of church leaders and members of the writers' union, called on the country's government to cancel the concert, accusing the team of "blatantly promoting homosexuality, sadomasochism and other perversions, cruelty, violence and obscene language" and stating that Rammstein threaten “Belarusian statehood”. Nevertheless, the concert was sold out, attracting a record number of visitors: more than 11,000 people. On March 9, 2010 the group visited Kyiv for the first time. The first concert in Ukraine gathered about 10,000 people near the stage.

From June 3 to June 6, 2010, the group performed at the Rock Am Ring festival. Rammstein agreed to broadcast 7 songs - Rammlied, B********, Ich Tu Dir Weh, Pussy, Sonne, Haifisch and Ich Will. But two songs were cut from the airwaves, these are the songs “B********” and “Pussy”; their performance can be watched on YouTube. On July 18, the group performed in Quebec at a summer festival. After summer festivals, at the end of 2010 the group performed in Latin America and gave one concert in the USA, and at the beginning of 2011 in Australia, New Zealand (as part of the Big Day Out festival) and for the first time in South Africa. From May 5 to May 31, Rammstein toured North America, giving 6 concerts in the USA, 3 in Canada and 4 in Mexico.

On June 11, 2011, a demo version of the song “Mein Land” appeared online, and a few days later the group announced that on November 6 they were planning to go on tour, during which the band’s best songs since its founding would be performed. It was also said that a new single and video would be released in the fall, and then a collection of the best songs.

The single “Mein Land” and the video for this song were released on November 11, 2011 (in Germany, Austria and Switzerland). The world premiere took place on November 14. The single also contains a new song "Vergiss uns Nicht". The compilation Made in Germany 1995–2011 was released on December 2.

On March 22, 2012, the group performed with Marilyn Manson on the same stage, performing his hit “The Beautiful People” at the Echo Awards in Berlin.

Facts about the group:

A fan of the group, French astronomer Jean-Claude Merlin, discovered a minor planet in the asteroid belt in 2001. Asteroid No. 110393 was named "Rammstein" in honor of the group.
Snow White in the Sonne video is played by Yulia Stepanova. In some parts of the clip where Snow White is standing over the band members, she is a very tall basketball player, and the girl's face and hands were computer-generated.
The “Keine Lust” video was shot in two versions. In one version, the girls shoot with a flamethrower. One of the girls is wearing a fireproof raincoat, in which Till usually sang the song “Rammstein”.
Guitarist Richard Kruspe formed his own band, Emigrate, where he is a vocalist and guitarist.
The lyrics of the song "Wiener Blut" were based on the true story of Josef Fritzl, an Austrian electrical engineer from Amstetten, Austria. In April 2008, Josef was arrested on charges of forcibly confining his youngest daughter Elisabeth Fritzl, whom he had kept in an underground, soundproof bunker in the basement of his home since 1984. At the same time, she was subjected to domestic violence by her father since 1977. Gradually, their relationship began to be of a sexual nature - incest, as a result of which Elizabeth gave birth to 7 children.
Rammstein's videos are notorious and are often banned from being shown on TV. For example, in the music video for the song Mein Teil, written about the German cannibal Armin Meiwes, who ate a man several years earlier and was then sentenced to life, an angel gives a blowjob to vocalist Till Lindemann, who then eats him.
In the Rammstein song “Moskau” with Till Lindemann, Victoria Fersch, a girl from Tallinn who lives in Germany, sings in Russian.
In “Spieluhr”, in addition to Rammstein’s vocals, one more voice is heard. It belongs to Till's daughter, Kira Lee Lindemann
