IN Far Eastern Federal University a large-scale project to create an information technology system is being implemented "Electronic University". The creation of such a system will automate all aspects of activity FEFU Scientific Library, including the organization of an electronic library.

Let us remind you that at present the “Electronic University” is the most modern university management system, according to which only a few educational institutions operate in the world. The system makes it possible to remotely manage all processes at the university, and students do without grade books and student cards. An integral part of the system is an electronic library. Any student, including those from another city, will be able to access the university’s resources.

The united electronic catalog contains information about all printed publications and electronic materials stored in the FEFU Scientific Library. It also contains information from external electronic catalogs with which the library cooperates. Readers can not only quickly find the book they need, but also clarify information about which repository or book lending department it is located in, how many copies are available, and also reserve the publication they are interested in for a specific date.

To enable readers to perform consolidated searches, specialists of VP GROUP Group, the official distributor of VTLS Inc., the following external directories were connected:

– directory of open access journals (http://www.doaj.org) – a moderated directory of scientific journals with free web access to full texts of articles. It has been created since February 2003 at the University of Lund (Sweden). To date, there are more than 9,000 magazine titles on this platform;

– electronic catalog of the journal Nature Methods published by NPG (http://www.nature.com/nmeth);

To access the resources of connected external electronic catalogs of journals and scientific articles, readers need to go to the online catalog of the FEFU library at http://lib.dvfu.ru:8080 and enter a search query.

All information about the internal and external resources of the FEFU library is summarized in a single online catalog interface (OPAC) - VTLS Chamo Discovery.
