While still in maternity hospital we were faced with a common childhood problem - constipation and the pediatrician immediately prescribed glycerin suppositories, in my case they were Glycerin suppositories from Farmin.

You can buy such candles at any pharmacy; they do not require a prescription. They cost me 60 UAH for 5 pieces, but you can find them cheaper if you have time. The packaging is standard - a cardboard box, inside is one blister and instructions.

Indications for use

Farmina glycerin suppositories used for constipation of various etiologies (when the use of oral medications is impossible).

Promised action

Farmina glycerin suppositories- laxative.
In its pure form, glycerin has an irritating effect, which disappears with the addition of water (up to 30 - 50%), petroleum jelly, and lanolin. When introduced into the rectum, suppositories have a slight irritant effect on the mucous membrane and stimulate defecation in a reflex way.
When used in the form of rectal suppositories, it facilitates the removal of feces.

Inside the box is one blister on which 5 candles are placed individually. They are all very tiny, just right for newborns and infants.

Glycerin suppositories "Farmina"

They have a transparent color. There is no special smell.

Method of use according to instructions

1 suppository each Farmina - 1 time per day 15 - 20 minutes after breakfast.
The suppository is inserted into the rectum and left there for at least 5 minutes, if emptying does not occur earlier. Remains of suppositories are excreted from the body along with feces. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 2 suppositories per day.
Adults and children over 5 years of age are prescribed 1 suppository (which includes 1.5 g of glycerin) 1 time per day. Children under 5 years old - 1 suppository (containing 0.75 g of glycerin) 1 time per day.

They are inserted quite easily, you need to do it slowly, at the end of the procedure you need to align the legs and hold them for a minute so that the candle does not come back out.

RESULT

About the child: boy, now 2 months old, is on mixed feeding (both breast milk and Nestozhen formula with prebiotics and lactobacilli)

🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼

To date, we have already used all the packaging. They really helped only one time out of five! Judge for yourself, draw conclusions and make a decision!

The first time, back in the maternity hospital, the candle worked almost immediately (probably a pure coincidence), 3-5 minutes passed and we got the result (before that, I hadn’t pooped for a day). Everything went well.

The second and third times of testing gave results as much as six hours after the administration of the suppository. Before this, the child had not pooped for two days, was nervous, strained, jerked his arms and legs, but there was no result. I don’t even know if the candle took effect after just six hours or if it happened by itself, I have no idea, but in the end the candle came out completely, like new.

The fourth and fifth time “testing” my nerves was just brutal, there was no result 24 hours!!! The baby had never pooped before three days, I used the “rescue” candle, waited and waited, constantly checked the diaper, but nothing happened, and so the fourth day passed... the child slept poorly, was capricious, pushed, but nothing happened, I didn’t know how to help him, I reproached myself for putting this candle in the first place, it’s not normal when a foreign body stays in the body for so long, especially in a baby... I was all exhausted, I didn’t wait any longer, I called the local pediatrician and the advice was simple: regular enema with lukewarm boiled water. I did everything according to the doctor’s recommendations and after a few minutes there was a result, there was so much feces that the diaper could not withstand such pressure, everything began to leak around my legs, but my joy knew no bounds, I was already jumping with happiness.

And read how many of these candles there are side effects:

Allergic reactions are possible: pain, nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal bleeding.
With long-term use of suppositories Farmina irritation and discomfort in the rectum, sometimes catarrhal proctitis, were observed.

Result: They haven’t come up with anything better than an enema yet! It was in vain that she tormented her child so much and she herself suffered next to him and did not sleep at night. A waste of money. I won't buy any more. They only helped once out of five, and that was probably a coincidence. I don't recommend it.

My other reviews:

You can combat constipation, as the main cause of hemorrhoids, using different methods. Rectal suppositories are most often used. Glycerin suppositories occupy not the last place in the list of effective drugs. They have a local effect without affecting the functioning of internal organs and systems. Facilitate the process of defecation, moisturize and soothe the inflamed rectal mucosa. In addition, they are completely eliminated from the body after providing a therapeutic effect.

Composition and effect of the drug

The active ingredient is glycerol. 1 suppository contains 2100 mg of active ingredient. Additional ingredients include: purified water - 120 mg and sodium stearate - 140 mg.

It has a laxative effect and activates intestinal motility. In addition, it softens hardened feces, ensuring their easy release.

Manufacturer - Antibiotice A, Romania.

Release form

Suppositories for rectal use are translucent with a yellowish tint or colorless, in the form of a cylinder with a pointed end with a smooth, uniform oily surface. A faint characteristic odor appears on the cut.

Packed in 5 pieces in contour packages with cells consisting of two layers - aluminum and polyethylene. There are 1 or 2 packages in a cardboard box.

Pharmacological properties of glycerin suppositories

Glycerin in the product has a mild irritant effect on the mucous membrane and activates intestinal activity. In addition, this substance is hygroscopic. By removing water from the body, it helps soften feces and facilitates their passage through the intestines.

Pharmacodynamics

After entering the large intestine, it has an irritating effect on the mucous membrane and, by reflex, activates the process of emptying. Tones smooth muscles, activates intestinal function, promoting the urge to defecate.

Pharmacokinetics

Indications for use

Prescribed for constipation. Indicated for preventive purposes in patients who are prescribed to avoid straining during bowel movements. These are people with diagnoses: painful thrombosed hemorrhoids, anal fissure, anorectal stenosis.

Glycerin suppositories for hemorrhoids

The process of emptying in patients with hemorrhoids can provoke the appearance of microcracks in the anus. When bacterial microflora enters them, they become inflamed, causing discomfort. The use of the drug helps to soften muscles stretched after defecation, heal cracks and wounds that appear in the anorectal area.

Chronic

Suppositories with glycerin help prevent constipation, which results in the accumulation of large amounts of feces, which can injure the anus during defecation.

During exacerbation

The use of glycerin suppositories is contraindicated.

Application and dosage of glycerin suppositories

The action of glycerin suppositories occurs almost immediately after entering the rectum. Depending on the severity of the problem and the condition of the intestines, the duration of action of the drug can be 15-20 minutes in adult patients, in children - 7-10 minutes. The remains of the undissolved suppository are removed from the intestines during bowel movements.

Adults and children over 12 years of age can use 1 suppository containing 2100 mg of active ingredient once a day. Children from 5 to 12 years old are recommended to use 1 suppository containing 1405 mg of active ingredient once a day.

If emptying does not occur, you should consult a proctologist.

Contraindications

  1. In case of individual intolerance to the ingredients of the product.
  2. For hemorrhoids in the acute stage.
  3. For proctitis and paraproctitis.
  4. For bleeding.
  5. For tumor processes in the rectum.

Does the drug cause side effects?

The drug can cause an allergic reaction, itching and burning in the anorectal area, and pain in the intestines. Negative symptoms disappear after stopping use of the medicine.

Long-term use can cause irritation of the rectum, enlargement of hemorrhoids, and weakening of the physiological process of emptying.

Overdose

Exceeding the dose may cause frequent loose stools. In this situation, you should immediately stop using the suppositories.

Special instructions

During pregnancy and lactation

The active ingredient of the product is not toxic and is not adsorbed into the general bloodstream, so in rare cases it can be used by women during the period of bearing and feeding a baby. Treatment should be carried out under the supervision of a specialist. Uncontrolled use of the product can cause reflex stimulation of the uterus.
