How to remove the handle. Installing a handle on an interior door. When may dismantling be necessary?

In our difficult times, in order to be considered a person with imagination and taste, you need to be able to fill your house with exclusive, unique things, not like others. We want the interior of our home to characterize us without words, to be comfortable and pleasing to the eye. And if the store doesn’t have what we need for this, we try to make it ourselves. You say “need for inventions is cunning”? We call this creativity, individual style and the search for non-standard solutions.

In this case, let's try to decorate and elevate our bed with a headboard. It can be decorative or functional, but it is definitely better with it than without it.

First you need to decide which of the many options is right for you. For those who like to read before bed, it is better to choose a soft headboard that will be pleasant to lean on. In a country-style bedroom with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials, it makes sense to have a high wooden backrest. If you are planning to realize the dream of living in the French province in your bedroom interior, try starting with a headboard in the Provence style. A young family can afford to experiment with decorating a headboard using improvised materials, especially since this is often the only thing they can afford. In general, look, choose, compare with your abilities and capabilities, create with your own hands. So, let's get started.

Headboard for the Capito bed (carriage screed): step-by-step instructions

This is the case when beauty requires sacrifice. The carriage screed looks rich, so it requires appropriate investments.

To make a capitonné headboard you will need:

  • a sheet of plywood as wide as your bed and at least 60 cm high;
  • thick, beautiful fabric of rich color that drapes well (velvet, faux suede, leather, eco-leather, velor, flock);
  • thick foam rubber (about 5 cm) to the size of the plywood base;
  • padding polyester of the same size, plus a margin of 5 cm on each side;
  • large buttons with an eye (can be replaced with accessories in the form of beads or crystals);
  • a strong, but not thick cord or cord for fastening buttons, which should go into the eye of a button or other accessories;
  • wall mounts, self-tapping screws, universal glue;
  • tools: plywood drill, furniture stapler, scissors, knife or metal tube, crochet hook.
  1. We cut out the plywood of the required size in the shape of a rectangle or with a figured edge, for more chic.
  2. We adjust the foam rubber to the size and shape of the plywood base.
  3. We make markings on the foam rubber in the places where we plan to fasten the buttons. They can be placed one below the other, then the screed will be in the shape of squares, or in a checkerboard pattern to create diamond shapes.
  4. We make holes in the foam using a knife or a preheated metal tube. The tube initially heats up for 3-4 minutes, then 15-20 seconds will be enough. After one heating it is possible to make 2-3 holes. Before starting work, you should take care of the safety of the floor, for example, lay down a sheet of plywood or hardboard.
  5. We lay out foam rubber with ready-made holes on the plywood blank, through which we make marks on the plywood with a pencil.
  6. We remove the foam rubber and drill holes in the marked places with an eight-millimeter wood drill.
  7. Using universal glue, we attach the foam rubber to the plywood, making sure that the holes and edges line up perfectly.
  8. Cover the top with an even layer of synthetic padding (5 cm margin on each side).
  9. Cover the padding polyester with fabric (10 cm margin on each side), level it, and attach it to the plywood on the back side using a furniture stapler with thicker staples.
  10. Prepare buttons or other selected accessories. In order for the screed to look like a single piece, the buttons are usually covered with upholstery fabric. Then we pass a prepared tourniquet 15 cm long through the “leg” of the button and tighten it with a knot. We lower the button into the prepared hole from the front side, and use a crochet hook to pull the rope loop to the “wrong” side.
  11. We deepen the button into the hole so that the folds in the fabric are more noticeable, and fix the loop with furniture staples on the plywood from the “wrong” side.
  12. You can leave it like this, or you can cover the plywood with a thick back cloth so that everything is neat on all sides.
  13. Using self-tapping screws, we fix the fasteners on the inside of the headboard, and then hang it on the wall at the head of the bed.

How to make a soft bed backdrop with a pattern from furniture nails

Another option for making a soft headboard, less troublesome than the previous one, but also requiring preparation and patience.

In order to make a soft headboard with a pattern of nails you will need:

  • a sheet of plywood the width of a bed, any height;
  • dense fabric measuring 30–40 centimeters longer than plywood on each side;
  • batting or padding polyester at the rate of 3-4 layers the size of the plywood plus 10 cm from each edge;
  • glue, furniture nails, furniture stapler.
  1. We cut out a rectangle or a shaped blank from plywood (for example, the one shown in the video).
  2. We lay out the batting or padding polyester in layers, sequentially gluing each subsequent layer to the previous one. The first layer is attached to plywood.
  3. We wrap the allowance onto the back side of the plywood and attach it using a furniture stapler.
  4. Turn the workpiece over with the batting facing up. We coat or spray with glue and carefully, evenly, smoothing out any folds and wrinkles, roll out the prepared fabric onto the adhesive batting.
  5. After drying, we wrap the fabric on the back side of the workpiece, stretch it and attach it to the plywood with a furniture stapler.
  6. You can make any design with nails, we will look at the simplest one - a frame along the edge.
  7. In order for it to really resemble a frame, you need to really try to make sure that the nails are nailed evenly, deeply, at an equal distance from each other. This rule should be followed when decorating the headboard with any other selected pattern.
  8. To make an even straight line, you need to place 2 points in opposite corners of one side of the workpiece at an equal distance from the edges (for example, 5 cm).
  9. Then drive a furniture nail into the points, pull a thread between them and place points along it with a pencil at an equal distance from each other, for example, with an interval of 1 cm.
  10. We hammer nails of the same size in the designated places.

    11. Attach the back using any of the methods described below

Video on the topic

A similar technique for decorating a figured headboard can be seen in the video.

The two previous methods for designing a headboard are suitable for both making a completely new headboard and updating an old one. We cut out a rectangle or a shaped blank from plywood (for example, the one shown in the video).

Ideas, options and methods for attaching a headboard

There are several ways to attach a headboard.

  1. To the wall behind the bed. We screw two furniture hinges with self-tapping screws to the back side of the headboard and hang them on the bolts in the wall.
  2. To the bed frame. On the outside of the frame, we drill 2 holes on each side, through which we then screw the headboard to the bed.
  3. Free-standing structure with legs. You can buy ready-made wooden legs in a store or cut it yourself. Screw the legs to the headboard and place the new headboard between the wall and the bed.

Designers are hard-working people, with imagination and taste, but even they need some guidelines to determine the general concept of room design or, in other words, the style in which they will work. In this case, you and I are our own designers, but why reinvent the wheel if you can watch how professionals do it and bring something of your own. Let's take a quick look at some interior styles, and perhaps we'll pick something suitable for ourselves and implement it in the design of the headboard of our bed.

Provence style, photo

Associations: romantic, light, cozy, organ. “Provence” is a stylization of the life of an old French village: a lot of textiles with floral patterns, light colors (white, gray, blue, lavender, light green). Wooden furniture with or without forged elements, usually painted and aged. A headboard in this style can be made from painted wooden boards or from old doors redesigned. For a soft back, you should use light fabric with small flowers.

The predominance of lavender color and floral pattern The wood is painted and artificially aged Predominance of delicate light tones Brings back dreams of the French countryside

Loft style bedroom

Associations: freedom, laconism, industrialism, brutality and simplicity. Characteristic features of the loft: fragments of rough brickwork on the walls, simple wooden ceilings and floors, a minimum of partitions and furniture - maximum light and free space. There is not much decor, but it must be there. A headboard in this style should be simple. For example, the step-by-step instructions for making an upholstered headboard with a nail pattern, described above, are made from loft-style art canvas.

Headboard in a laconic loft style Simplicity in decoration Headboard in the form of a radiator A soft headboard also fits perfectly into a loft-style bedroom

How to design a “Japanese” style

Associations: laconic colors, podium beds, screens, fans. There is little furniture and only from natural materials in dark tones. The headboard, as a rule, has a geometrically regular shape, hard or with soft overlays made of fabrics with a recognizable national ornament (hieroglyphs, images of people in national costumes, mountains, cherry blossoms) or plain ones. You can simply hang a fan or an image of a hieroglyph on the wall. In general, there are quite a lot of options, and therefore, as the Japanese say: “When you think, decide, but when you decide, don’t think.”

Fans on the wall complete the composition Image of a hieroglyph on fabric as a headboard The headboard is made of plain fabric, but the wall is with a national landscape A painting depicting people in national costumes decorates the headboard of the bed.

"Patchwork"

There is only one association - shreds!!! Patchwork quilts, pillows, rugs and headboards are fun, colorful, funny and unique. There are no two identical patchwork products and cannot be. Products made from patches are also actively used as decorative elements in the country style. Composing something from many small pieces is always interesting, but tedious. And yet, as the Japanese say... (see above).

Patchwork pillows on the wall at the head of the bed Another option for a patchwork headboard You can make a flat wall panel as a headboard Niche in flaps as a headboard for a bed

Unusual bed headrest in Patchwork style - DIY

To make a soft headboard in the form of flap pillows you will need:

  • 2 sheets of plywood 19 mm thick or orgolite;
  • dense foam rubber;
  • batting;
  • fabric of four or more colors, based on 30x30 cm - one piece;
  • glue, adhesive tape, screws, wall fastenings (2 pcs.);
  • tools: saw or hacksaw, furniture stapler, screwdriver.
  1. We cut both sheets of plywood to the width of the headboard of the bed, of arbitrary height so that the width and height are multiples of 20 cm (in the photo the sheet is 160x100 cm)
  2. On one sheet we draw a grid of 20x20 cm and cut it into squares.
  3. From foam rubber and batting we make squares the same size as from plywood (20x20 cm).
  4. We cut the fabric into 30x30 cm pieces.
  5. On each plywood square we glue the same piece of foam rubber, then batting. Lastly, we glue the fabric so that there is an equal margin of 10 cm on all sides.
  6. We stretch the fabric so that it does not wrinkle, we turn the rest on the back side, and fasten it with a stapler in a certain sequence: first one corner, then the opposite one, then the remaining corners.
  7. For a finished panel size of 160x100 cm, you need to make 40 pillows in several colors.
  8. Place 5 rows of 8 pillows face down, making sure they fit snugly together. We glue it with tape around the perimeter of the future finished product.
  9. We put a second whole sheet of plywood on top and screw each pillow to it with screws. To make it neat, you need to mark the attachment points in advance (you can draw the same grid as on the first sheet) and select screws of the appropriate length so that they do not cut through the plywood base of the cushions.
  10. We screw fastenings for the wall onto the back panel of the headboard on both sides.

Wooden headboard

There are a huge number of ideas for decorating the head of a bed with wooden boards, and both smooth, painted specimens and knotty, lightly processed counterparts are used for this. A key role in the success of this design of the headboard is played by its fit into the overall style of the interior. If the bedroom is designed in a palace “Baroque” style, no one in his right mind and sober memory would install a headboard in the form of a fence, this is understandable. But even if the bedroom is quite ordinary, with a classic store-bought set, a wardrobe, in general, everything is like people’s, and suddenly there is a picket fence at the head - it will look just as ridiculous as in the first case. Therefore, try to support such accents with something else - furniture, accessories, lamps, so that everything is harmonious. As for the classic wooden headboard, it does not need special support.

The drawing is applied using a stencil The wooden headboard in the shape of a fence looks unusual Even whole logs can serve as a headboard in the appropriate interior This is no longer just a headboard, but a whole area in the bedroom made of wooden boards A wooden headboard can be decorated with decoupage

Wooden headboard with shelves

A headboard with shelves can be extremely convenient, a godsend for a small bedroom. Usually they don’t make many shelves - two or three maximum. The bottom shelf can be made closed and all sorts of small items can be placed there, usually found in bedside tables and dressing tables. It makes sense to use the second open shelf solely for decorative purposes. Place on it several interior trinkets, one or two photographs, a light garland or small hanging lamps.

Comfortable and beautiful - a headboard in the form of a niche with a shelf You can make a headboard with many shelves if you design them correctly Another option with a shelf at the head For a small bedroom, an excellent solution is a niche shelf at the head of the bed

Headboard made from improvised materials

Finally we got to the young couple, who at the very beginning were promised to offer original and budget options for designing the headboard of the bed. Indeed, seemingly familiar things, used in a new role, can become that very exclusive detail that will make the interior spectacular and unique. In skillful hands, pillows, doors, window frames, curtains and simply pieces of fabric turn into inimitable decorative elements, thanks to which the interior takes on a new look. Look at the photos and decide which option suits you best.

A cornice with a curtain will decorate the head of the bed Well-fixed open books will become a one-of-a-kind headboard A properly used old door will make an excellent headboard for a bed. Pillows fastened together as a headboard Cleaned old window frames at the head Beautifully designed pallets can also serve as a headboard Another simple and affordable option is a picture of the headboard on the wall (sticker, stencil drawing)

How many times, looking through such articles, have we caught ourselves thinking: “How easy it turns out that everything can be done. Why didn't I think of this myself? Now I’ll go, buy fabric, find plywood and make myself a new interior detail, and then I’ll change the furniture and wallpaper...” But very soon everyday everyday worries push this laudable intention aside, it begins to seem to us that only some skilled and dexterous people can do it to people. But it’s not for nothing that another Japanese proverb says: “If you set off on a journey of your own free will, then a thousand ri seems like one.” So feel free to pick up a hammer, scissors and glue, arm yourself with the desire to bring variety and beauty into your life, and everything will definitely work out.

Upholstered diamond-patterned headboards look amazing, but they're too expensive, so I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to afford that luxury. Years later, when I had accumulated a lot of experience in various furniture projects, I myself made the headboard that I had long dreamed of, and with great pleasure I will teach you how to do it too! From my detailed instructions you will learn how to make a soft headboard with your own hands, and in the simplest and cheapest way possible!

  1. Preparing the headboard frame
  2. Holes for fabric covering
  3. Fastening foam and fabric
  4. Button wrap
  5. Headboard trim
  6. Securing the fabric

Materials:

  • The frame of an old headboard and wooden panels (possibly from old disassembled furniture);
  • Cellular foam mattress pad (1 m wide, even for a king-size bed);
  • Textile;
  • A set of buttons to be covered (I needed 37 of these buttons);
  • Regular buttons;
  • Upholstery twine / hemp rope / waxed thread for sewing on buttons;
  • Glue (I used super strong Gorilla glue).

Preparing the headboard frame

Do you have a headboard that has lost its original appearance? Great! Of course, you can buy lumber and make a new frame, but why not use what you already have.

The headboard of my bed, which I inherited from my grandparents, was uncomfortable and looked unpresentable. And when one night my neighbors living on the floor above were flooded, causing all the furniture to be badly damaged, I finally decided to part with it. I removed the ugly plastic panels from the front of the headboard to get to the frame.

After that, I started looking for any scrap wood that was the right size. For example, I had two MDF doors from an old broken wardrobe, which I cut to length and nailed to the frame. You shouldn’t strive for any special beauty at this stage, just nail or screw the boards to the frame.

The headboard frame was a little lower than I wanted, so I built it up using 5x5cm blocks. Special strength is not required here; it is not even necessary to attach these bars to the existing frame. Simply nail or glue them to the front panels. The bars extending the frame serve only to hold the staples securing the fabric.

From the back, the design looks like junk that belongs in a landfill. Haha. What can I say? I like to use whatever I can get my hands on in my work. For example, I used door hinges taken from the same cabinet as the doors to fasten the panels. Perfection is not required when it comes to framing.

Holes for fabric covering

It's time to apply markings along which you will drill holes for subsequent fastening of the fabric. I hate taking measurements, so I did a quick search on Pinterest for “DIY tufted headboards” and discovered that some DIYers are using Pegboard as a base for their headboard, often used to organize tools and other items. Good idea! True, a perforated plate of this size will cost a lot, and it does not have sufficient strength. With that in mind, I decided to use the Pegboard just as a template to mark where to drill the holes on the headboard of my bed.

What to do:

1. Measure your headboard and mark its center.

2. Center the piece of pegboard you have in the center of the headboard.

3. Start at the marked center, but three holes down.

4. Use a marker to trace the hole locations onto the wood base. You can trace the holes that have already been moved on the perforated plate so as not to forget what has already been done.

5. Mark a point (remembering to circle the hole), then skip seven holes, and mark the eighth again. Continue with this pattern.

6. The second row should be shifted relative to the first by three positions, i.e. the new point will be opposite the fourth hole. The result will be a diamond shape (see photo below).

7. When you reach the edges of your pegboard, simply move it, aligning the already marked points with the corresponding holes. Continue until the entire top half of the headboard is covered with dots arranged in a geometric pattern. There is no need to mark the entire headboard of the bed - only up to the level of the mattress.

Once you have finished marking the surface of the headboard, make sure that you do not miss any desired points. If you traced the holes on the panel, this will be much easier! There is nothing worse than removing the pegboard and then discovering that all the dots have not been ticked.

TIP: There is no need to apply dots to the very edges of the headboard; leave a few centimeters untouched.

Now it's time to drill holes at all marked points! The holes should not be very large, just enough for the needle to fit through them freely. Shake off the sawdust.

If on the back side of the structure access to any holes is blocked by frame elements, drill the bars through so that nothing prevents you from sheathing the back.

Fastening foam and fabric

Take two pieces of packing foam of the appropriate size (this will be much cheaper than buying furniture upholstery foam) and place it on the front surface of the headboard, mesh side down. Line up the top and sides of the foam with the edges of the wood back, trimming off any excess. Secure the bottom and sides (no need for the top) using a furniture stapler.

Drape the structure with a piece of fabric. When measuring the material, make a margin of 25-30 cm on all sides.

Raise the fabric-covered headboard to a vertical position and lean it against the wall. Keep in mind that when it comes time to cover the back, you will need to have free access to the front and back sides. It’s good if you have an assistant who will hold the backrest.

Button wrap

It's time to cover the buttons with fabric. This is the most difficult part of the project. I hate this job! Maybe it's because I bought the cheapest set, I don't know, but my fingers really hurt when I only made 7 buttons. You should follow the instructions on the package of the blanks, but once you've read them, come back here. I'll give you some good tips that will make the process much easier. Oh, and don't forget to use a good glue if you don't want the button covers to fall off over time.

Tips for covering buttons:

  • Not all kits are created equal. I bought two sets of the same brand, but it turned out that the rubber mold fit the buttons from one set well and much less well from the other. One set won't be enough for you anyway, just try all the rubber molds until you find the one you like best.
  • Cut the fabric with a small margin, i.e. slightly larger than the template that comes with the kit. It's better to trim off the excess material after you've pressed the button cover inside the rubber mold rather than painfully trying to center a small piece of material.
  • Insert the fabric and button cover into the rubber mold from one side, then slowly insert them all the way. Otherwise, you won't succeed.
  • If you don't want to do this all over again someday, before inserting the button shank, apply a little glue to the edges of the button. Remember that if you add too much glue, the excess will end up on the outside (if this happens, blot the glue with a napkin). Let the glue dry overnight before using the finished buttons.
  • It is very difficult to hammer the “pusher” into place! It slips out, you have to keep adjusting it with your finger... ugh! My super smart advice to you (this knowledge only came to me through experience): use a wooden striker so as not to pinch your fingers while trying to hammer the “pusher” into place! My poor blue thumb...

Headboard trim

You will need a long needle with a large eye, regular buttons and upholstery twine. The knots on this smooth twine are easy to untie, but it passes freely through foam and fabric. Just make sure you tie the knot well (more than once) so it doesn't loosen over time.

Insert a long piece of twine into the needle and then thread the button onto it. Do you want to prevent the button from slipping off? Then pass the twine through all 4 holes (as if you were sewing on a button) and tie a few knots.

Pass the needle through the drilled hole, moving from the back to the front. Start with the top center hole. Be sure to keep the needle straight.

When inserting the needle, gently press on the foam from the front surface until the tip of the needle protrudes out. Pull it out a little. You can now move to the front of the headboard and pull out the needle.

Attach a decorative button to the front of the headboard.

How to attach a button to the front of the headboard:

1. Pass the needle through the eye of the covered button.

2. Make one turn of the thread around the button and thread it through the eye again.

3. Sink the button into the foam rubber while simultaneously pulling the thread tight. The loop should hold the button in this position, unless, of course, force is applied to tighten it.

4. Cut the twine, leaving small tails.

5. Tie the ends of the twine at the bottom of the button (as if you were tying shoelaces).

6. Tie another knot on the other side of the button. Repeat the operation several times.

7. Cut off the excess length of twine and place the short tails under the button.

8. Protect the fabric by forming folds on it.

To illustrate how this happens, watch the animation (the animation size is about 8 MB, so you need to wait a little before it appears).

Before you move on to the second row, read the next section, which has some information you should know about the first row. The only thing I messed up was the first row, so unfortunately my headboard isn't perfect, but you have a chance!

An important point regarding the first row

At some point in my work, I began to realize that I had not taken one important small step at the beginning. A disappointing justification for this can be the fact that I did not have the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others. Make sure you remember to do this step so that every diamond on your back will be perfect.

Immediately after you have secured the first button, stop and make an upward fold. Now fasten the next button and make the fold again...

Once you have sewn on the first 3 or 4 buttons, pull the fabric taut at the back and secure the folds with furniture staples. Make sure all folds are facing the same direction. Fasten the remaining buttons (and form pleats) of the first row in the same way.

Once you have completed the first row, you can move on, stitching the entire remaining surface of the headboard. Now you have to make micro folds with your fingers after adding each new button to get perfect diamond shapes.

Securing the fabric

Once you've completely stitched your headboard, it's time to secure the fabric around the edges. Place the headboard on the floor, face down. You've already secured the fabric to the top of the headboard, but it doesn't hurt to add a few extra staples. To get neat corners, create folds by pulling the top side down and then covering it with the stretched side panel, then staple the fold in place. Continue attaching the sides, remembering to stretch the fabric. The front side should look ideal, and the back view is not so important.

Before securing the bottom edge of the fabric, place the headboard upright again and trim off any excess fabric around the legs. There is no need to fasten the fabric from the front of the leg; it is pulled tightly at the back.

Upgrading the back of the headboard

Now, if you wish, you can slightly embellish the back of the headboard. For this purpose I used an old, but still durable sheet and several upholstery nails. I drove the nails quite far apart from each other so that if necessary I can easily remove the backdrop.

TIP: If one of your decorative buttons becomes loose over time (or you didn't tighten it well enough in the first place), use the button located at the back of the back to tighten the twine and secure it with a staple just below. Now everything is pulled tight, there is no need to redo the work.

The bed determines the direction and style of the bedroom design. An ordinary boring bed makes the entire decoration dull. How can you radically and inexpensively update this piece of furniture? Three interesting techniques will help you create a soft headboard for your bed with your own hands.

Upholstered headboard - a new design for your bedroom

The headboard of such a bed is completely covered with fabric, under which soft foam rubber is placed. For greater decorativeness, various methods of screeds are used. These beds are quite expensive, but the good news is that you don't need to purchase a new bed. You just need to make a new soft headboard - the video and master class will help you with this.

Even the simplest upholstered headboard looks great, and if there is an ottoman with the same finish next to it, the new room design is almost ready.

Master class No. 1 “upholstered headboard in a couple of hours”

This is one of the simple techniques for creating such bed decor, which is perfect for those who do not want to spend a lot of time fiddling around.

Materials and tools:

  • plywood;
  • foam;
  • any fabric for the base;
  • thick fabric for external upholstery;
  • furniture stapler;
  • electric jigsaw.

Since this method does not involve screeding, it is advisable to take fabric with a bright, beautiful print. Plain fabric can also look impressive, you just need to choose the right color so that you can enjoy the soft headboard of your bed with your own hands for as long as possible.

Job description

Step-by-step description of how to make a soft headboard:

  • We cut the plywood sheet with a jigsaw to the required size - it can be either a rectangle or any other shape. However, when covering, it is easier to work with a rectangular shape.
  • 2 layers of foam rubber are applied to the plywood, then we cover it with fabric for the base - this can be any unnecessary cut. It should be secured with a stapler on the back side of the plywood sheet.
  • Now we proceed to the final covering with beautiful fabric and you're done!

Very little time was spent, but the interior was radically transformed. I wonder if the headboard is the same color as the curtains - an amazing solution.

Master class No. 2 “headboard in the form of soft squares”

The good thing about the upholstery technique in the form of soft squares is that the headboard can be made even from fabric scraps and pieces of foam rubber. If other methods require solid cuts, then here you need to make a lot of small squares. Moreover, you are not limited in the combination of colors and textures - the originality of the product is guaranteed.

Materials and tools:

  • textile;
  • foam;
  • batting (sintepon);
  • plywood or very durable cardboard;
  • scissors;
  • jigsaw;
  • glue or screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • hooks for hanging;
  • furniture stapler.

Job description

Decide on the materials and start creating your own masterpiece from soft squares.

Step-by-step description of the work:

  1. We cut about 60 squares from plywood or cardboard - the size and size depend on the dimensions of the future headboard.
  2. We cut out squares of the same size from foam rubber, and slightly larger squares from batting - with an allowance for the overlap on top of the foam rubber.
  3. Lastly, we cut out a square of fabric, taking into account that its edges should go to the back side for fixation.
  4. Now we assemble the squares in this order - plywood, foam rubber, batting, fabric.
  5. We secure the fabric on the back side of the product using a stapler.
  6. We prepare a base from plywood, MDF or durable cardboard according to the size of all the squares folded together.
  7. We attach our squares to the base with glue or self-tapping screws.

This headboard is hung on the wall using special hooks. Using this technique, you can create both a plain headboard and a patchwork style.

Master class No. 3 “headboard in carriage style”

Carriage tie or capitonne is a fairly common method of furniture decoration, inspired by the way carriages were finished in the 18th century. This is a soft upholstery fastened with rivets to a base, forming a pattern in the form of squares or diamonds. This decor looks aristocratic, bringing a feeling of comfort and stability to the interior of the bedroom.

For this type of headboard decoration, it is best to choose heavy, expensive fabric that forms luxurious folds.

Perfect for:

  • leather – natural or artificial;
  • velours;
  • velvet;
  • faux suede.

These are dense materials capable of forming distinct, beautiful folds - they are the goal. The fabric may have a pattern that matches the design of the image being created. Therefore, light fabrics with simple patterns are completely unsuitable for carriage screeds.

The following materials are used for screeding:

  • buttons covered with fabric;
  • massive beads;
  • crystals.

Buttons can be matching or contrasting - both methods give their own unique effect. Classic contrasts of black and white in the art deco style are good. You can use fabric rose buttons together as a romantic element.

Materials and tools for work:

  • a sheet of plywood or a board with holes;
  • foam rubber 50 mm thick;
  • padding polyester;
  • rubber glue;
  • thick paper;
  • strong thread;
  • large needle;
  • marker;
  • buttons;
  • thick fabric;
  • furniture stapler;
  • electric jigsaw;

Job description

For this mission, you will need a board with special holes or a sheet of plywood on which the same holes will be made.

This method requires accuracy and diligence, but the result is worth it - a royal bed in your home. The description and video will help you do all the work without errors.

Step-by-step description of how to make an upholstered carriage headboard:

  • Cut out the plywood and foam rubber to the desired shape.
  • We make markings on plywood or a board with holes in accordance with the pattern of the screed - in the form of squares or diamonds (diamond mesh). On the finished board you just need to mark the holes needed for the job, on plywood - drill them.
  • Prepare paper on which we make exactly the same markings.
  • We place paper on top of the foam rubber and mark the holes using a marker.
  • The most important step is to make holes in the marked places. To do this, use a knife.
  • The foam rubber must be glued to the plywood or board with rubber glue so that the holes of both materials coincide.
  • A layer of padding polyester is glued onto the foam rubber, on which you need to make holes according to the same markings.
  • Carefully stretch the fabric and fix it with a furniture stapler. For complex headboard shapes, you also need to use a needle and thread, pulling the fabric from the center and evenly distributing it to the edges.
  • Cover the buttons with fabric or leave them as is - it all depends on the design of the buttons.
  • We sew the finished buttons into the designated sockets and secure them with strong threads - starting from the center, continuing horizontally on both sides.
  • It is difficult to fix the thread on the plywood; it is better to use the same stapler staples. We entangle the thread between them and securely fasten them. The headboard is ready!

You can make holes with a drill in foam rubber and plywood at once, but to do this, you need a special attachment for the drill. In addition, this method requires certain skills - one mistake and you can ruin everything. A soft headboard can transform your bed, your bedroom and your mood. Making it is not at all difficult, you just need to carefully study the video and master class. It will take you no more than a day to make such a bed update, and for the option without screeds you only need a couple of hours.

1. Fabric. In the example - olive velvet. If necessary, use a different material. When choosing, be guided by the fact that it should not be too heavy. And velvet is good because it is pleasant to the body and at the same time easy to clean.

2. Wooden boards. The author of the idea chose boards measuring 5 cm wide, 3 cm thick, and 3.5 meters long. The dimensions are selected so that the resulting model runs along the wall with the window, next to which the furniture stands. Do not rely on the indicated dimensions, take others - for example, the width of a mattress or furniture frame. To avoid fiddling with a saw, ask the store to cut the boards to the required dimensions. You will have to pay extra for this, but there will be no dirty shavings in the apartment, and besides, it is dangerous to operate a saw without the skills. You can hurt yourself.

3. Batting. This is a special material that will serve as a “gasket” between the upholstery and the filling. Choose the size depending on the length and width of the board.

4. Foam filler. It is better if it is voluminous. Due to the foam, the resulting structure will become soft and take the shape of rollers.

5. Scissors. Will be needed for cutting velvet and batting.

6. A stapler or other stapler. Use automatic too.

7. Screwdriver or drill. You will need a tool to assemble the boards together. If you have a drill, great, it will be easier and faster. But a manual screwdriver is not difficult to handle.

8. Screws. You need traditional wood screws that are no longer than the thickness of the wood board so that the edges don't stick out.

9. Metal crossbar - needed to connect the resulting panels to each other.

Let's start work.

DIY soft headboard: step-by-step instructions

Step 1

Once you cut the boards to the desired length (or take ready-made ones), fold the materials in the following order. First the velvet face down, then the batting, then the foam filler, and finally the wood.

Step 2

You need to cover the back of the board with fabric. Therefore, pull it tightly on both sides and adjust where the foam is placed. Once you determine how much material you need, make cuts.

Step 3

Secure the velvet with a stapler. Start on one side of the board and then on the other, pulling the material taut. Don't waste time trying to make your braces aesthetically pleasing. No one will see the inside out.

Step 4

Fold the velvet in the corners like paper - remember how to pack. Then secure this part.

Step 5

We make a side. This is not necessary, but if you want to use the structure as an additional shelf, use this advice. You won't need anything new for this. Place the velvet right side down and the wood on top of it. Secure the fabric around it in the same way as in the instructions above. To attach this side to the resulting structure, you will need metal corners. Attach the corners with screws.

Does your bedroom need a makeover? How about making a new headboard? We'll tell you how to make a soft headboard with your own hands.

To decorate the headboard you will need:

  • wooden plywood (in this case 140 cm high, across the width of the bed, about 0.8 mm thick)
  • furniture foam rubber (height and width correspond to the dimensions of plywood, thickness 5 cm)
  • drill with wood drill and concrete drill
  • double sided tape
  • upholstery fabric
  • electric stapler
  • 14 buttons per leg, 2 cm
  • 14 flat buttons
  • strong threads
  • a long, thin sewing needle (such as a gypsy needle)
  • 3 hidden hangers with screws and dowels
  • folding ruler
  • pencil
  • cutting scissors
  • hammer

Here's how you can make a headboard with your own hands:

1.Cut plywood to the desired value (it is advisable to entrust this step to professionals in a hardware store).

2. Cut the foam according to plywood sizes.

3. On plywood mark the location of the buttons and drill her wood drill.

4.Cover the plywood with double-sided tape: once around the perimeter, once across and once along the middle.

5. Glue foam rubber to the plywood.

6. Place the upholstery fabric on the foam. bend the top edge of the fabric onto the plywood and nail it with an electric stapler, starting from the middle. Then nail the bottom edge, then the left and right. Each time go from the middle to the outer corners.

7. Thread the thread folded in half into the needle and fasten it to the button on the leg.

8.Pierce fabric and foam with a needle so that the needle comes out through the drilled hole in the plywood.

9. On the back side of the plywood a button is sewn on. Stitch the foam rubber with the fabric several times so that both buttons are firmly secured, pressing on the button on the leg. Each time, tighten the thread well so that the button is pressed into the foam. Finally, wrap the thread under the button and secure the thread.
