Intestinal spasms than to treat. Intestinal spasms - causes and treatment. Causes of intestinal colic

Spasms in the intestines can occur for various reasons. This symptom worries every person at least once in a lifetime. Naturally, there are explanations for this. Improper nutrition, surgery, medications and diseases of the digestive tract - all this leads to cramps in the stomach.

ICD-10 code

Absolutely any industry has its own standards and systems of definitions. This also exists in medicine. Each disease is brought into its category and classified. So, there is an international classification of diseases. Sometimes doctors in the medical record indicate the code of the disease, and not its name. Therefore, some knowledge in this area is useful.

Bowel problems were classified in group K (K55-K63). K 55 - includes vascular ailments of the intestine. K56 - obstruction. K 57 - diverticular lesion. K 58 - irritable bowel syndrome. K 59 - other violations of the functions of the body. K 60 - cracks and fistulas located in the anus. K 61 - an abscess formed in the anus. K 62 - other ailments of the anus. K 63 - other diseases of the intestine.

Having some ideas about the codes, you can independently read the doctor's conclusions if, instead of a verbal explanation, a classification is indicated there.

Causes of spasms in the intestines

To date, there is no exact data on the development of the disease. After all, it can occur even as a result of eating poor-quality food. Many researchers believe that cause the problem of violations of physical and mental health. Despite this, several major factors have been identified.

The first reason has to do with the brain. It is he who controls the work of the intestines. Violation of the signal supplied from one organ to another can lead to persistent pain.

Violation of the motility of the body often contributes to the appearance of failures. Fast work leads to diarrhea, slow work leads to constipation. As a result of muscle contraction, pain is observed.

Increased sensitivity. People who have a low threshold of sensitivity constantly suffer from gases and discomfort. Psychological disorders of any type lead to disruption of the organ and the appearance of pain.

Bacterial gastroenteritis. Some people suffering from this disease report unpleasant pain sensations. This is due to problematic bowel function.

Dysbiosis. The rapid development of bacteria in the small intestine provoke flatulence, diarrhea, spasms. Heredity plays an important role. Naturally, nutrition also plays its part. The amount of food eaten and its quality fully affect not only the work of the stomach, but also the intestines. Alcohol, chocolate, chips, carbonated drinks can provoke discomfort.

Duodenitis. This problem affects the duodenum. As a result, unpleasant pain occurs. Chronic enteritis is characterized by an inflammatory process in the mucous membrane of the organ. It is manifested by a sharp, unpleasant pain. Chronic colitis is an inflammatory process of the mucous membrane of the colon. Acute appendicitis can cause a sharp spasm. Acute intestinal obstruction, strangulated hernia, and even hepatic colic all lead to intestinal spasms. Constant pain may indicate the presence of a tumor.

Intestinal cramps after surgery

This phenomenon occurs due to the formation of adhesions. Gluing the loops in the organ completely changes its movement. In some cases, it stops completely. Identifying the presence of adhesions is not so difficult. If a person has undergone surgery not so long ago, then he will be plagued by pain in the intestines. They are of a convulsive nature. Their strengthening is observed after physical labor.

Symptoms such as constipation, nausea and vomiting often develop. There is an unpleasant bloating after eating. The most dangerous symptom of adhesions is obstruction. If the disease is chronic, then the person loses significant weight.

Spikes completely block the work of the body. The person is in severe pain. Unfortunately, the problem won't fix itself. Therefore, after the operation, after a while, another surgical intervention is performed to remove the adhesions themselves.

They are formed due to the influence of external factors on the body. They perform a certain protective function. They develop against the background of operations in the abdominal cavity or as a result of injury. This happens because of the air, as well as the talc on the surgical gloves. In addition, other foreign bodies can get into the "wound" during the operation. Therefore, in fact, preventing the appearance of adhesions is not so simple.

Pathogenesis

The pathogenesis of this phenomenon is very complex. In most cases, acute pain can be associated with stretching of the intestinal loops. But it is possible to develop a symptom as a result of severe irritation of the nerve endings located in the intestinal wall. The leading role in this process is a violation of intestinal motility.

With obstruction of the organ, pain is associated with increased peristalsis. If the problem arose against the background of colitis or enterocolitis, then it all depends on the presence of an inflammatory process. Under acute pain, a number of serious diseases can be hidden. Many of them can be eliminated exclusively by operational means.

Spasmodic pain occurs against the background of many intestinal ailments. Therefore, the correct definition of the cause is half the battle. After all, many diseases can contribute to the development of the problem. Without a quality diagnosis, it is very difficult to understand why the stomach hurts. The pathogenesis is actually complex and requires investigation by leading experts.

Symptoms of spasms in the intestines

The problem can manifest itself not only as pain, of various types. This disease is characterized by the appearance of pain in the navel, accompanied by all the heaviness in the stomach. In addition, there is a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen itself. Diarrhea, constipation and flatulence are often manifested. These three signs are among the most leading. They accompany almost any pathological process in the digestive organs. Naturally, diarrhea alternates with constipation.

Often there is an eructation of air, nausea and vomiting. In some cases, when the situation is really difficult, headache, cold sweat and chills pester. If the spasmodic condition was provoked by acute obstruction, the symptoms intensify instantly and manifest themselves to the full extent. Of particular danger in this case is a period of calm, when a person becomes easier. This may indicate a loss of sensitivity and the death of important receptors. Therefore, when special symptoms appear, you should seek help immediately.

Spasms and pain in the intestines

Any violations can be explained by the individual characteristics of the patient's body. So, problems with the intestines most often occur in overly emotional people. Even ordinary fear and joy can lead to increased work of the body. People who are constantly under the influence of stress, as well as individuals with an unstable psyche, fall into the risk zone.

Nutrition also plays a special role. Eating disorders, snacking on the go and low-quality products significantly affect the body as a whole. Naturally, the gastrointestinal tract suffers the most. Lack of fiber in food, lack of movement, as well as gynecological disorders in a woman, carry a particular danger. Hormonal disruptions, the presence of diabetes and acute infections lead to truly serious problems.

All of the above factors are ways to cause pain in the navel, spasmodic conditions, nausea and vomiting. This is mainly caused by irritable bowel syndrome. It is important to eat right and monitor your medication intake. This will reduce discomfort. If they do not disappear, it is necessary to conduct an examination.

Severe spasms in the intestines

The main signs of problems can be interesting food preferences and improper intake. The only exception is the presence of problems. These include inflammatory processes. In this case, a strong pain syndrome occurs after eating. Spasms can occur during the defecation process or, on the contrary, disappear.

The pain syndrome can be aching or cramping. And everything happens in fits. Sometimes they get worse, even during coughing. This symptomatology is typical for inflammatory processes. Acute spasms indicate inflammation of the sigmoid colon. Cramps in the navel area may indicate the presence of inflammation of the small intestine. If they are observed in the perineal region, cancer, inflammation of the rectum is possible. Intestinal obstruction has always been the basis of such a syndrome. If the problem is caused by distension of the intestines due to gases, then the spasms are precisely localized, duration and gradualness.

If it is an obstruction, then the pain syndrome is constant. Sometimes the location changes. Basically, spasms are characteristic of the area around the navel.

Intestinal cramps and diarrhea

Doctors have identified several main causes of this problem. They are based on malnutrition. Even poorly chewed food can lead to frustration. Frequent snacking, food on the go - lead to an imbalance in the body.

All this entails the development of flatulence, changes in microflora and the appearance of infections. They are able to develop due to the intake of expired products. Even increased nervousness can lead to frustration. Most often, people with increased emotionality suffer from the problem.

Heavy metal salts can cause problems. Spasms are provoked by lead salts. They can penetrate the body directly when working with them. Often, helminthiasis causes a number of unpleasant symptoms. Colds can affect the digestive system. For this state of nature, vomiting, spasms. During pregnancy, such symptoms are provoked by the rapid growth of the fetus.

In fact, there are a lot of reasons. Yes, the symptoms vary. The problem manifests itself not only with spasms and diarrhea, but also with nausea and vomiting. To prevent dehydration of the body, it is worth reporting the problem to a specialist.

Spasms in the intestines after eating

This problem can occur for a number of reasons. The most common of these is the presence of gastritis. Moreover, it can have both acute and chronic forms. A stomach or duodenal ulcer has similar symptoms. Inflammation of the pancreas is capable of provoking everything.

With exacerbation of gastritis, pain is concentrated in the abdomen. Each form of the disease has its own special manifestations. Acute gastritis develops against the background of strong irritants that negatively affect the mucous membrane. Because of this, a rapid inflammatory process develops. The chronic form is dangerous because for a long time it does not manifest itself at all. One has only to eat something spicy or otherwise cause irritation, as symptoms appear instantly.

In the acute form, pain can be both on an empty and on a full stomach. The pain syndrome is variable. Nausea may occur while eating. Everything comes with weakness. Dizziness, excessive sweating are not ruled out.

The chronic form is characterized by a decrease in acidity. There may be rumbling in the stomach, pain appears after eating. Belching with air, bloating, nausea and other unpleasant symptoms manifest themselves. The problem needs to be fixed. After all, symptoms can manifest themselves at any time, and in general, it interferes with a normal life.

Bloating and spasms in the intestines

It can occur even in a healthy person. The gases accumulated in the intestines can lead to the development of the problem. They usually occur in connection with the use of incompatible products. The process of fermentation and rumbling are the consequences of carbonated drinks.

Eliminating heartburn with soda can provoke a problem. This triggers a natural chemical reaction and results in the formation of carbon dioxide. Often the problem is related to the love of food, this applies to people who eat a lot and constantly overeat. The abuse of fatty foods leads to heaviness and bloating. The symptom may be due to constipation. It, in turn, provokes the appearance of flatulence. The abdomen is tense, the skin can change color.

Another reason for the development of the problem lies in food allergies. It develops against the background of allergen products. Allergy can be provoked by orange, lemon, tangerine, sweet, honey and spices. These products cause digestive disorders.

Stool retention often leads to excessive bloating and flatulence. This condition can be aggravated by the use of legumes, fresh fruits and some vegetables. In general, there can be a lot of reasons. Naturally, they are all associated with the organs of the gastrointestinal tract.

Spasm in the intestines in a child

This problem occurs quite often in children. Moreover, it carries a different degree of expression. If the colic is weak, the baby is a little naughty. It is enough to take him in your arms, as he calms down. With a strong manifestation, nothing helps, except for medicines.

Many mothers note the fact that the problem occurs after the child eats or gets nervous. With food, everything is somewhat clear. It is enough just to eat quickly or swallow the air. As for the nervous state, the problem almost never bothers babies who are constantly next to their mom. She protects her child and always holds him in her arms. Therefore, the children are extremely calm. It is necessary to prevent possible stressful situations and constantly monitor the baby.

As for older children, the problem arises solely against the background of malnutrition. It is necessary to adjust the dosage and remove products that cause excessive gas formation. It really can save the day. The developing body of a child negatively affects many irritants, so periodic problems from the gastrointestinal tract are the norm.

Spasms in the intestines during pregnancy

The reason for this phenomenon lies in the migration of the egg to the uterus. Literally a few days after conception, spasms in the intestines begin to manifest themselves. It is caused by an increase in the level of progesterone in the body. It is he who is responsible for the weakening of the walls of organs. If the symptoms do not go away after a while, it is worth reviewing the daily diet. In general, in this case, it is worth contacting a specialist.

As practice shows, cramps can occur against the background of rumbling in the abdomen, its swelling and a feeling of fullness. Everything can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, as well as a feeling of heaviness. It is not uncommon for a woman to refuse food due to lack of appetite.

Colic can develop against the background of a stressful situation, malnutrition, and a sedentary lifestyle. Intestinal colic of an increased degree is observed in mothers who are constantly in nervous tension. It should be noted that cramping pain occurs both for the first months of pregnancy and in the last. There is nothing incredible in this, because the fetus is constantly growing and displacing the woman's organs. Therefore, pain and difficulty emptying is quite common.

If the problem is allergic in nature, then it is necessary to make a laboratory analysis of the condition. After all, the matter may lie in the presence of pointed crystals, which carries a special danger.

Consequences

Spasmodic pain caused by infectious colitis can lead to liver and stomach failure. All this provokes problems with digestion, causing a number of unpleasant symptoms. These include bloating, malnutrition, and anorexia. To fully restore digestion, you will have to use a number of medical procedures. Their main function is to activate the work of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract.

If pain occurs against the background of problems with the liver, then the complications are the most complex. The problem can flow into cholecystitis and hepatitis. This condition requires proper treatment and adherence to nutritional rules.

Frequent complications are considered constipation, and of various etiologies. They are able to form against the background of the existing inflammatory process, neuromuscular weakness, diet, physical education. The danger of this condition lies in the defeat of the liver, as well as the blood. Often the problem involves the inflammatory process of regional lymph nodes. Diarrhea, functional disorders of the intestine - the consequences of spasms. Therefore, it is important to diagnose the problem in time and resort to its elimination.

Complications

Do not assume that spasms are a completely safe manifestation of any disease. If the problem is not corrected in time, serious complications can occur. First of all, the intestine itself suffers, inflammatory processes of various kinds are not excluded. A person can constantly be plagued by constipation or frustration. Moreover, the problem can arise spontaneously.

The liver often suffers. Do not think that intestinal colic can develop against the background of problems with this organ. Even neighboring organs and systems can influence this process. If the problem was caused by a violation in the liver, then hepatitis and cholecystitis have the right to be. It requires quality care. You can't let everything go by itself.

Constant bloating, flatulence, increased gas formation and other "amenities" accompany a person until the true problem of this phenomenon is identified and eliminated. Therefore, delaying treatment is not recommended.

Diagnosis of spasms in the intestines

There is no specific test that detects bowel problems. Because many diseases are not accompanied by special pathologies. However, quality research plays an important role.

General blood analysis. It allows you to determine changes in the blood and measure the level of leukocytes, platelets, red blood cells. The number of red blood cells may indicate the presence of anemia. The presence of infection is checked for leukocytes.

A blood test for celiac disease is often prescribed. This is a disease of the digestive system that occurs against the background of the body's immune response to gluten. It is found in cereals. A blood test in this case determines the presence of the disease.

In addition to general analyzes, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy are actively used. These studies are the study of the rectum and large intestine for the presence of pathologies in them. Before the procedure, a person "sits" on a special diet, cleans the intestines. Perhaps these are the best and most reliable methods of research. They will allow you to identify intestinal diseases of any complexity and see all kinds of defects.

Tests for spasms in the intestines

In addition, a general blood test is taken. It allows you to consider the composition of the blood, or rather the number of main components. After all, any deviations indicate problems. For example, leukocytes can easily determine the presence of a serious infection in the body. Red blood cells, in turn, diagnose anemia.

One of the important tests is blood donation for celiac disease. This disease refers to diseases of the digestive system. It manifests itself in the form of an immune response to gluten. This process is characterized by frequent bouts of diarrhea. A detailed blood test will only confirm this pathology. That is why a blood test is important in diagnosing the causes of severe spasms.

Instrumental diagnostics

This method of research includes a lot of different procedures. The first step is an X-ray examination. Thanks to X-rays, changes in some segments of the intestine can be determined. To do this, it is filled with a special contrasting mass. It is entered in two ways. The first option involves taking it through the mouth. To do this, the person takes a horizontal position, and the contents are introduced through the trachoscope. The second option is the use of an enema (irrigospokia). An x-ray examination allows you to see the contours of some segments of the organ, and thereby diagnose existing disorders.

The second procedure is sigmoidoscopy. It is an examination of the mucous membrane with a rectoscope instrument. A special tube is inserted to a depth of 35 cm. In the normal state, the mucous membrane is moist, smooth and has a moderately red tint. If there is inflammation, then it becomes swollen, cloudy and covered with mucus. The procedure allows you to diagnose ulcers, erosions, hemorrhoidal bumps.

Not so rarely used probing the small intestine. The contents of the organ can be obtained using special thin tubes that are interconnected. After the probe is inserted, some parts of the intestine are isolated with air. Thus, it is possible to record the motility of the organ. True, probing is not yet as common as the two methods described above.

Differential Diagnosis

In differential diagnosis, the emphasis is on the simplest causes that could provoke irritation. It can be both chronic diseases and taking certain medications. Some foods and drinks have always been considered the most common irritants. Usually it is fatty and junk food, as well as carbonated sweet water. Eating too much food often leads to excess gas, heaviness, and cramping. Many medications, including laxatives, can cause similar symptoms.

Intellectual stress and psycho-emotional state can influence the process. Therefore, you need to properly alternate work time with rest. The main pathology is fermentopathy. This deficiency develops during a diet that does not include milk, that is, products containing lactose. Not the last place is given to polyposis, Crohn's disease, gynecological abnormalities and tumors. Differential diagnosis of these ailments includes the delivery of blood and feces tests. Based on the data obtained, a diagnosis is made or sent for additional research.

Treatment of spasms in the intestines

Treatment depends entirely on the cause of the problem. If this is an ordinary constipation, they resort to the help of special laxatives. For serious infections, antibiotics are indispensable. If these are gallstones or tumors, then they resort to surgical intervention.

With severe spasms, antispasmodics are used. These medicines are able to calm convulsions, reduce their activity. It is important to properly calm and relax the muscles. Among the common drugs include Mebeverine. It is taken exclusively by prescription of a doctor in a given dosage. May cause gastrointestinal side effects. Overdose is not excluded. During pregnancy, lactation and with hypersensitivity, the reception is prohibited.

Phytopharmaceutical medicines are widely used. These are preparations based on plants and herbs. Usually they include chamomile, cumin, mint and anise. They are used as an alternative to more serious treatments. A detailed description of the medications used will be described below. As for surgery, it is extremely rare and depends on the underlying cause.

Tablets for spasms in the intestines

There is a certain group of medicines that are used to eliminate spasms. These are antispasmodics, laxatives, antidiarrheal and antidepressants.

Antispasmodics. The group of these medicines includes drugs that eliminate pain and spasms. Sparex, Duspatalin, Niaspam are often prescribed. All of them relieve spasm and significantly reduce symptoms. They usually contain herbs.

Sparex, Duspalin, Niaspam. Used exclusively by prescription. Usually the dosage does not exceed 200 mg twice a day, which should be consumed 20 minutes before meals. They have a number of side effects in the form of nausea, vomiting, weakness. It should not be taken by pregnant, nursing mothers and children. Naturally, people with hypersensitivity to certain components of the drug have a ban.

Laxatives. Most often they resort to the help of Citrucel and Metamucil. They are recommended for almost all people suffering from colic.

Citrucel, Metamucil. They have the same effect. The dosage is prescribed by the doctor based on the condition of the person. There are no data regarding the use during pregnancy, it is not recommended to take. Used with caution by children. Careless use may disrupt bowel function. That is, without such stimulation, natural processes will not occur. Therefore, laxatives must be taken carefully.

Antidiarrheals: Loperamide and Imodium

Loperamide. 4 mg is prescribed, after each stool you need to take another 2 mg. The dosage should not exceed 16 mg per day. The dose depends on the intensity of the diarrhea. The tool can cause a number of side effects, these include headache, intestinal disorders, insomnia, dry mouth, nausea, and vomiting. It is impossible to use the remedy during pregnancy, intestinal obstruction, as well as the age of up to 2 years.

Imodium. The dosage depends on the nature of the disease. Usually enough 2 capsules 1-2 times a day. For children, 1 capsule 1-2 times a day is enough. There are many side effects. They appear in the form of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. From the side of the nervous system, irritability, weakness are not ruled out. Other side effects include urinary retention. Contraindications: acute ulcerative colitis, constipation, acute dysentery, pregnancy.

Antidepressants. They are taken in case of constant nervous overstrain. After all, they provoke the development of colic in humans. These include Citalopram, Imipramine, Fluocestine.

Citalopram, Imipramine and Fluocestine similar in their action and have an individual dosage. Self-administration of the dose is extremely prohibited. With its significant increase, the development of an inhibited state, nausea, and vomiting is possible. In no case should they be taken by pregnant women, people with hypersensitivity.

Alternative treatment

You can use folk troubleshooting only with the permission of a specialist. Usually try to resort to the help of herbal remedies. Propolis gives a good result. It is enough just to use it on an empty stomach, like chewing gum. A decoction of plantain candles also gives a good effect. It is enough just to brew the ingredient in boiling water and take 2 tablespoons 3-4 times a day.

Pay attention to the birch fungus. It must be soaked for 4 hours in water at room temperature. After that, a glass of the resulting raw material is distributed between four glasses and filled with warm water. In this state, you need to withstand the mushroom for another 2 days. After that, everything is passed through a sieve and consumed literally 100 ml up to 6 times a day. It is advisable to do this 30 minutes before a meal.

You can take about 15 grams of birch buds and fill them with half a glass of alcohol. This tincture is aged for about a week. It is important to shake the container daily. After that, the contents are passed through a sieve and consumed 20 drops 3 times a day. At the same time, everything is washed down with a sufficient amount of water.

To ease the symptoms, it is enough just to use a watermelon peel. Cope with problems, blueberries, gooseberries allow.

Herbal treatment

It is quite possible to eliminate the problem with the help of herbs. But, you need to understand that some plants are poisonous and can harm the body. Therefore, it is recommended to use proven recipes.

Perfectly relieves spasms decoction of chamomile inflorescences. You need to take 6 tablespoons of this ingredient and dilute them with 2 tablespoons of mint, valerian and fennel. All this is poured with water and brought to a boil. It is necessary to apply 100 ml before meals up to 3 times a day.

Celandine also has healing properties. It is taken together with chamomile, yarrow, St. John's wort. Each ingredient is taken in the amount of one tablespoon. Then it is filled with water and boiled. It is taken 3 times a day after eating.

Chamomile, fennel, mint, valerian and calamus rhizomes will relieve spasms and flatulence. All inflorescences are taken in the same size, 2 tablespoons each. Then it is poured with boiling water and boiled. It is necessary to take the remedy in a warm form up to 3 times a day, after meals.

Homeopathy for spasms in the intestines

Homeopathic remedies are widely used to eliminate many ailments, including the organs of the gastrointestinal tract. In total, there are seven main drugs that are actively struggling with extensive symptoms. These are Gastricumel, Nux vomica-Homaccord, Gastronal, Gastrocinesin, Duodenocheel, Edas-114 and Normagast.

The composition of the preparations Gastricumel and Gastronal includes silver nitrate. It perfectly affects the mucous membranes, relieves inflammation and alleviates the condition of a person. It is taken exclusively under the supervision of a homeopath.

Duodechoneel. Relieves symptoms, fights duodenal problems. This medication is widely used for severe diarrhea.

Gastrocinesin. The tool actively affects the metabolic processes in the body, improves the functioning of the digestive organs. The drug is used for gastritis and duodenitis.

Nux vomica-Homaccord (Heel) and Normagast (Alcoy) include emetic nut, club moss and bitter gourd. In action, they are exactly the same. Their main function is to improve the functioning of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract. Elimination of hepatic colic. The main indication for use is colitis.

The drug Eddam-114. It contains two components that have a specific effect. They affect the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the small intestine. The drug has a fast and permanent effect.

Regarding the dosage of all the above medicines, contraindications and side effects, the attending homeopath will tell. It must be understood that herbal preparations are not suitable for everyone and it is not recommended to use them on their own.

Surgical treatment

As for the elimination of the problem surgically, it is difficult to say anything unambiguously. After all, much depends on the reason for which strong spasms arose. If the problem is hiding in an ordinary bloating caused by low-quality products, surgery is definitely out of place. A similar situation develops in case of poisoning, improper lifestyle and abuse of bad habits. Usually it is enough to simply eliminate the main allergen and the problem will recede on its own.

If the symptoms arose against the background of hepatitis, enteritis and other diseases, drug treatment is sufficient. Following a diet, a certain lifestyle and taking medications will eliminate unpleasant symptoms.

When a spasm occurs against the background of acute appendicitis or the presence of a neoplasm, surgery is performed. But, before that, a person passes a series of tests to accurately determine the problem he has.

Prevention

Prevention of this condition is simple. It is enough to reconsider your own diet. It is advisable to reduce the consumption of sweets, pastries and fatty foods. Especially in the evening hours. The stomach is not able to work at full strength at night, because of this, there is heaviness, bloating, pain.

If the gastrointestinal tract itself is weak, it is worth giving up a large intake of raw fruits and vegetables. They provoke fermentation and cause unpleasant symptoms. Salt should also be consumed in small quantities.

It is advisable to refuse canned vegetables, closed in marinades. A similar requirement applies to pickles, seasonings and smoked meats. It is recommended not to ignore physical labor, but not to overdo it. It is important to spend a lot of time outdoors. All this will help prevent unpleasant symptoms. People who have ailments of the gastrointestinal tract should take care of their treatment.

Forecast

A favorable prognosis occurs in most cases. Naturally, much depends on the condition of the person and the disease he has. If the problem was caused by the usual overeating, eating low-quality food, then it is enough to simply control the quality of the food consumed. In this case, the prognosis is really favorable.

It should be noted right away that the problem caused by poor-quality food, alcohol and overeating at night always ends positively. But, in the event that a person limits himself and monitors what he eats. After all, against the background of this, serious diseases can develop.

If the problem was caused by a serious illness, then the prognosis directly depends on the prescribed treatment. Colitis, hepatitis are not so easy to eliminate, but in most cases the prognosis is favorable. It is not so easy to say this about neoplasms. It all depends on the shape of the tumor, its location and the time when it was discovered. Cancer neoplasms do not often end with a favorable prognosis. Therefore, it is very important to monitor your own health and seek help at the first symptom.

Intestinal spasm - a rapid and prolonged muscle contraction, characterized by a delay in the relaxation phase, is a symptom of many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

It can occur due to colitis, enterocolitis, irritable bowel syndrome, neurosis, overeating, poisoning, dysentery, rotovirus infection, intestinal obstruction, etc.

Intestinal spasm is accompanied by unstable stools, when, after diarrhea, difficulties with bowel movements, abdominal pain, more often in its lower part, flatulence, etc., suddenly begin.

If spasms do not go away after the passage of intestinal gases or a single stool, call an ambulance. If the spasms go away on their own, but recur often, you need to see a doctor.

Causes of intestinal spasm

The intestine is contracted by peristaltic waves with alternating work of the muscular system of different departments: from the duodenum to the sigmoid. In this case, the rectum does not perform peristaltic movements.

In some cases, intestinal spasm can be caused by neuropsychiatric disorders, often leading to loose stools.

Symptoms of intestinal spasm

Symptoms accompanying intestinal spasm are very specific. Heaviness, which is localized in the lower abdomen, as well as pain in the navel area, are the most common of them.

The spasm may also be accompanied by diarrhea or lead to constipation. It is also characterized by the presence of flatulence, severe belching and nausea. Not good at all when it comes to vomiting.

It is undesirable to bring the process to a chronic state. But if suddenly this has already happened, then all these symptoms will be supplemented by a severe headache, chills and cold, unpleasant sweating.

Intestinal obstruction or thrombosis of small vessels can aggravate the symptoms. At this stage of the disease, the spasm will no longer be indicated by pain in a clearly defined area, but the pain will expand over the entire peritoneal area.

The abdomen will become very hard, and palpation will only increase the pain. Patients also complain of a feeling of fullness in the intestines, which does not leave even after going to the toilet. More often there is a desire to visit the restroom, which does not result in a bowel movement.

If the spasm appears several times in a short period of time, it is necessary to visit a gastroenterologist and undergo the examination prescribed by him.

Treatment of intestinal spasm

The following methods will help relieve pain during intestinal spasm:

  1. Prescribe antispasmodic and painkillers:
    • No-shpa;
    • Papaverine;
    • Baralgin;
    • Spazmalgon.
  2. Physiotherapy method:
    • physiotherapy;
    • cold rubdowns;
    • cold shower, dousing the abdomen;
    • massage.
  3. Psychotherapeutic method: conduct conversational therapy or hypnotherapy.
  4. Diet method: The following foods should be included in the daily diet:
    • black bread;
    • buckwheat porridge;
    • vegetable soups;
    • peas;
    • mushrooms;
    • mashed potatoes;
    • White bread;
    • lean meat and fish;
    • plums, prunes, figs, apples, cucumbers, turnips, beets, cabbage;
    • kefir, koumiss, curdled milk.
  5. Surgical method: if all of the above methods do not help, then surgery is possible.

How to relieve intestinal spasm

take equal parts crushed meadowsweet grass, St. John's wort, walnut and nettle partitions, bring to a boil and leave under the lid to cool to room temperature. Consume 1/2 cup every hour.

Intestinal spasm in children

Spasmodic sensations are always acute in nature and are manifested by burning in the intestinal area and cramping pains. As soon as the child gets better, he should undergo an examination to clarify the diagnosis that provoked adverse changes.

Questions and answers on the topic "Intestinal spasm"

Question:Hello! I started having diarrhea a week ago. I immediately thought of poisoning after watermelon. Two days was just loose stools and nausea. Then in the morning there were terrible pains and spasms in the intestines. Spasms in the time interval of only half an hour. Relief was only after going to the toilet. And so the whole day. And in the evening the temperature is 38.5. The next day, there were also pains and the urge to go to the toilet. The temperature was gone. There are no strong colics and spasms as on the first day either. Also during this, my periods began, which do not proceed as usual, that is, not abundantly. There are practically none. During this week, the pain and urge to the toilet are still present. There are no more forces. There were bowel problems. The right side often hurts. I went to the doctor, everything that was prescribed was bifidumbacterin and Hilak Forte. No changes.

Answer: There can be many reasons, for example, an attack of acute cholecystitis. It is recommended to consult a gastroenterologist for a personal examination and examination: biochemical blood test, ultrasound of internal organs, FGDS.

Question:Hello! The child has already had 2 weeks of spasms in the intestines, diarrhea. We drink pills multifort, kudesan, magnerot. Appointed by a doctor. We still drink Creon.

Answer: Additionally: a diet with the exception of dairy products, fatty spicy foods + stool analysis.

Question:Good afternoon, tell me please, I had such a problem about 2 months ago, before that there were no special problems with the chair. Before you go to the toilet for the most part, the intestines begin to whine wildly, then it becomes enchanted with terrible spasms, the stomach twists very much, I immediately go to the toilet and it becomes easier, the pain recedes, then I lie down and catch "otkhodniks", so to speak, for about 20 minutes, there are no hemorrhoids and cracks , blood, too, feces of medium consistency (no diarrhea, no constipation). Even after giving birth, there were no problems with the stool, she gave birth 1.5 years ago, everything was fine until the last 2 months, food and climate did not change. Prompt please, something can to spend on drink to me or candles what? How to remove these terrible spasms, the pain is wild.

Answer: Before talking about treatment, it is necessary to identify the exact cause. And for this, it is necessary to start with a visit to a gastroenterologist for an examination and basic examinations. In terms of examination, ultrasound of the abdominal organs, FCS and coprogram are mandatory. An irrigoscopy may be required.

Question:Hello! This morning there were sharp cramps in the lower abdomen in the intestines and rectum, accompanied by severe flatulence. Even bending over was painful. After the toilet (painful due to spasms, but the stool is absolutely normal), 2 tablets of espumizan and 1 no-shpy lay down, the spasms disappeared, the abdominal muscles more or less relaxed. Is it normal for cramps to remain sore for a few days?

Answer: Hello. The picture you describe may correspond to irritable bowel syndrome, but to exclude acute pathology, I recommend that you consult a doctor.

- a symptom of a huge number of diseases of the digestive tract, characterized by high-intensity visceral pain associated with a significant reduction in the intestinal wall. The main symptom of intestinal colic is cramping pain, usually combined with other symptoms of the underlying disease. To determine the cause of this condition, various laboratory, x-ray, ultrasound and instrumental research methods may be required. Treatment of intestinal spasm is conservative: sedatives, antispasmodics, heat on the abdomen, antidiarrheals and a special diet.

General information

Intestinal spasm is not an independent nosological unit, but only serves as a sign of serious malfunctions in the gastrointestinal tract. Most often, this functional disorder of the intestine occurs in infancy, but adults often also complain of spasmodic pain in the abdomen. Leading specialists of the country in the field of gastroenterology have been arguing for many years whether to consider such functional disorders (gastroesophageal reflux, functional diarrhea, intestinal spasm, etc.) as simply a symptom of trouble in the digestive tract, or as a premorbid condition, which in the future can be transformed into an organic pathology. There is currently no consensus on the status of functional disorders, but patients should take intestinal colic seriously. Finding out the cause of this condition means preventing the development of serious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Causes of intestinal spasm

Cramping pain, characteristic of intestinal spasm, may occur due to violations of various mechanisms of intestinal motility. The main links of pathogenesis in intestinal spasm: overstretching of the intestinal wall, irritation of nerve endings, impaired tone of the smooth muscles of the intestine with a disorder in the mechanisms of its contraction, the occurrence of pathological peristalsis (anti-peristalsis, weakening or strengthening of peristaltic waves, the disappearance of peristalsis in some parts of the intestine), the occurrence of an obstacle to promote the food bolus.

Intestinal spasm can occur against the background of digestive disorders - acute and chronic gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, hepatitis, pancreatitis, etc. In case of violations of the digestion of food in the stomach and the initial sections of the intestine, the unprocessed food bolus enters the intestine and causes excessive irritation of its receptors, muscle spasm . Another common cause of intestinal spasm is nutritional errors - the mechanism for the development of colic is the same as in case of digestive disorders, but irritation of the intestinal wall occurs with too cold, spicy, fried, dry, stale food, yeast dough products, etc.

Intestinal colic can also develop with intoxication - with generalized viral infections (influenza, SARS), poisoning with industrial and vegetable poisons, salts of heavy metals. In these cases, intestinal spasm occurs due to the effects of poisons and toxins on the neuromuscular apparatus of the intestine. Intestinal infections can also be the cause of this pathology: the multiplication of bacteria in the intestinal lumen has a complex effect, causing irritation of nerve endings, excessive exudation with overstretching of the intestinal wall, and peristalsis disorders.

In asthenic people with a labile psyche, prone to strong feelings, often during stressful situations there are cramping pains in the abdomen associated with intestinal spasm. With emotional shocks, there is a violation of the autonomic regulation of intestinal motility.

With intestinal obstruction, spastic contractions of its muscles are also possible. Spasm most often occurs against the background of obstruction of the intestine by a tumor, foreign body, coprolites and gallstones, balls of helminths, bezoars. There are frequent cases of the development of intestinal colic and with adhesive intestinal obstruction, which arose against the background of inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity and small pelvis, surgical interventions, and radiation. The intestine tries to overcome the obstruction by gradually increasing peristalsis, which eventually leads to spasm.

Depending on the cause and localization of the pathological process, separate types of intestinal spasm are distinguished. The appendicular type develops in the presence of an inflammatory process in the appendix. Usually, some time after appendicular colic, an appendicitis clinic appears. The rectal type is associated with spasm of the rectum and is manifested by frequent strong urge to defecate. The lead type of intestinal spasm accompanies lead poisoning, which is characterized by high fever, tension of the anterior abdominal wall, gray plaque on the gums, and bleeding from the oral cavity. The vascular type is associated with intestinal hypoperfusion against the background of a hypertensive crisis, atherosclerosis, mesenteric vein thrombosis, compression of the vessels by a tumor or adhesions.

Symptoms of intestinal spasm

The only symptom of intestinal spasm is intense cramping pain in the abdomen. Depending on the background of which disease an intestinal spasm occurred, other symptoms may also be recorded.

With gastritis, intestinal spasm is accompanied by epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspeptic symptoms, loss of appetite and weight loss. With peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, the pain becomes more intense, occurs on an empty stomach and at night. Intestinal spasm in liver pathology is combined with pain in the right side and hepatic colic, vomiting of bile, yellowness of the skin and mucous membranes, skin itching. In diseases of the pancreas, intestinal spasm joins girdle pain in the abdomen, indomitable vomiting, flatulence and diarrhea.

Intestinal infections usually manifest with fever, nausea and vomiting, and then, against the background of diarrhea, intestinal spasm also joins the symptoms. At the same time, pathological impurities (mucus, blood) are visualized in the feces. The clinic of helminthiases often develops gradually, and intestinal spasms may be the only clinical signs for a long time. In addition, the patient complains of weakness, lethargy, decreased performance, skin rashes and itching in the anus. With intestinal obstruction in the early stages, the patient is disturbed by severe intestinal spasms, the intensity of which gradually decreases. Colic occurs against the background of the absence of discharge of gases and feces, repeated indomitable vomiting. The abdomen swells, peristalsis disappears. If you do not help the patient during the day, irreversible changes occur in the intestinal wall.

Diagnosis of intestinal spasm

Most often, when an intestinal spasm occurs, the patient seeks the advice of a gastroenterologist or therapist. These specialists carefully study the anamnesis, accompanying complaints and, if necessary, prescribe a consultation with the surgeon.

To identify the underlying disease that could lead to the development of intestinal spasm, a number of laboratory and instrumental studies are carried out. A general blood test can reveal anemia, inflammatory changes in the leukoformula. A general urine test will indicate a catastrophe in the small pelvis (pelvioperitonitis), metabolic disorders of bile acids and glucose. A biochemical blood test is an indicator of the state of the liver, pancreas, and kidneys. To exclude intestinal pathology, a coprogram and fecal occult blood analysis are examined. acute appendicitis, peritonitis, intestinal obstruction. Self-treatment of intestinal spasms can lead to lubrication of symptoms, diagnostic errors and delay in therapeutic measures.

After acute surgical pathology has been excluded, pathogenetic treatment is prescribed. If intestinal spasm has developed against the background of emotional stress, or the appearance of this symptom has led to increased patient nervousness, sedatives are prescribed. Drotaverine and belladonna preparations relax the smooth muscles of the internal organs, eliminating intestinal spasm. A warm heating pad on the abdomen has a similar effect. With increased gas formation, a diet is prescribed (therapeutic fasting for 12 hours, then foods that lead to increased gas formation are excluded), enemas to remove feces and gases. If intestinal spasm occurs against the background of diarrhea, it is recommended to take smectite and other antidiarrheal agents.

With recurrent intestinal colic not associated with other pathologies of the internal organs, it is recommended to take sedatives for a long time, diet with the exception of fried, spicy, fatty, pickled and smoked foods, canned food, carbonated drinks, yeast dough and some vegetables (legumes, cabbage, corn, radish).

Forecast and prevention of intestinal spasm

The prognosis for the occurrence of intestinal spasm is usually favorable, severe consequences are possible only with acute surgical pathology. Prevention consists in the prevention and timely treatment of diseases that are manifested by this symptom. To prevent intestinal spasms, you should lead a healthy lifestyle, eat rationally, and avoid stress.

One of the unpleasant symptoms of diseases of the digestive system are intestinal cramps. Causes and treatment depend on many factors. Knowing the preventive measures, you can avoid the occurrence of such problems. Information about the disease allows you to more accurately imagine how you can encounter it, in what ways you can avoid this meeting.

Spasms in the body

Spasms are understood as a rapid contraction of muscle tissue, while delaying the moment of relaxation. In striated muscles, such actions are also called convulsions, and for the intestines they will be called colic. They develop more in the small intestine, but then spread through the rest of the digestive tract.

Spasms are not a separate disease, it is a symptom that signals a malfunction in the digestive system. It is not difficult to distinguish such contractions in the intestine from other disorders. Intestinal colic has intense pain, the nature of contractions. The pain intensifies and subsides in waves.

Spasms accompany many diseases of the digestive system. It can be colitis, poisoning, irritable bowel syndrome, neurosis, overeating, intestinal obstruction. Only a specialist can make a diagnosis after the diagnosis, examination of the patient.

Causes

Normal bowel contractions serve to push food through. Alternately, the muscles of all departments work except for the rectum. Spasm occurs as a result of severe irritation of the walls. It may come from:

Particularly severe pain occurs during colic with intestinal obstruction. Need urgent medical attention, the problem is solved only by surgery.

Accompanying symptoms

Signs of colic depend on the location of the location. In addition to sharp unexpected pain, there are other symptoms. According to them, the large or small intestine is affected by pathology. In the small intestine, due to spasm, the absorption of vitamins and nutrients does not take place, food moves on faster. In the thick section, the process of formation of fecal masses is disrupted, their exit to the outside.

Small intestine

  • rumbling along the intestines around the navel;
  • increased formation of gases;
  • increase in body temperature;
  • cramps of the calf muscles;
  • lowering blood pressure;
  • diarrhea;
  • nausea;
  • vomit.

Colon

  • false urge to defecate;
  • constipation;
  • feeling of incomplete emptying.

With a prolonged course of intestinal colic, a weakening of the body begins against the background of a decrease in the content of vitamins and nutrients. This condition leads to sleep disturbance, bouts of nausea, weakness, decreased ability to work, nervousness, increased irritability.

Intestinal obstruction is characterized by a hard abdomen, pain over the entire surface. Feeling the abdomen only exacerbates the pain. All sections of the intestine seem to be overflowing with feces, but after defecation, this feeling is not like.

Modern methods of examination

The problems of spasms in the intestines, the causes of the occurrence are dealt with by gastroenterologists, therapists. If necessary, they are examined by surgeons, instrumental examinations are carried out, tests are taken.

The beginning of the inflammatory process, anemia will show a classic blood test. Urinalysis can determine a violation in the metabolism of some important substances. To determine the state of internal organs, a biochemical blood test is prescribed.

To clarify the causes of colic or intestinal obstruction, an ultrasound examination of the internal organs of the abdominal cavity or plain radiography is used. If necessary, a contrast agent is used. Perhaps the use of tomography or MSCT. This is a multispiral computed tomography. An improved method where improved results are obtained with reduced radiation exposure and examination time. A large number of detectors are used, continuous helical scanning.

Often, to establish the causes of spasms, the appointment of treatment has to examine the intestinal mucosa. To do this, use the services of a specialist - an endoscopist. Colonoscopy procedures, endoscopic examination of the duodenum, sigmoidoscopy help to examine changes in the walls of the intestine, to determine the cause of the painful condition.

Treatment Methods

With spasms of the intestines, the doctor determines the causes and treatment. Self-medication is dangerous, the development of serious complications is possible. If symptoms persist, you should consult a specialist.

You can relieve intestinal spasm with drugs No - shpa, Drotaverin, Baralgin, Spazmalgon according to the instructions. A warm cleansing enema with herbs (decoction of lemon balm or mint) helps. Another way is a rectal candle with belladonna. Usually, after passing gases or defecation, liquid contents become easier.

You can hear that it is recommended to relieve pain during spasm by applying a warm heating pad to the stomach. This is dangerous if the cause of the pain is unknown! Such actions can lead to a sharp deterioration of the situation.

For bowel spasms, symptoms and treatment depend on the location of the problem. When the walls of the small intestine are irritated, the absorption of fluid is disturbed, as a result, diarrhea develops, then vomiting begins. The body rapidly loses water. Dehydration is unacceptable, because irreversible changes in the body develop against its background, and death can occur.

To prevent this, drugs are prescribed against vomiting, diarrhea. Give intravenous infusions of saline solutions to prevent dehydration. The patient is given small amounts of water to drink. If the cause of the disease is known, they begin to fight it.

With the loss of calcium as a result of frequent vomiting, muscle cramps begin, often on the legs. To get rid of this, calcium supplements are prescribed. General weakness begins, blood pressure drops, the condition of the whole organism worsens due to a lack of vitamins that are not absorbed in the small intestine. If the causes are infections, then the temperature rises. According to the symptoms, treatment is prescribed.

With problems in the colon, constipation is a big problem. The accumulated feces begin to decompose. Toxic substances are absorbed into the blood, poisoning the entire body. With prolonged spasm in the colon, the production of vitamins is disrupted, because of this, blood clotting is disturbed, and anemia develops. It is necessary to normalize the process of defecation, therefore, with intestinal spasm, treatment is aimed at eliminating this problem.

Traditional medicine also knows several recipes that relieve pain from spasms. Before use, you need to consult with your doctor so that the classical and folk treatments do not contradict each other. A decoction of medicinal herbs helps well - mint, valerian, chamomile with the addition of honey. With frequent colic, you need to drink carrot juice, mixing it with spinach juice. You need to regularly use a decoction of blueberries, gooseberries, plums, blackcurrant leaves. Take all the ingredients in equal parts.

Diet Help

The intestines are part of the digestive system, so it is important to follow a diet during treatment. Then adhere to some restrictions all your life in order to prolong periods of remission, reduce the number of seizures.

Foods to which the patient is allergic should be excluded from the diet. Refuse fatty foods, hot spices, pastries, legumes. They cause increased gas production.

Healthy foods:

Spasms in children

Most often, spasms are observed in newborn babies due to underdevelopment of the intestine. He must adapt to the new type of food. It doesn't always happen quickly and smoothly. To relieve pain, improve children's digestion, you need to keep the babies upright for some time after feeding. Spread them on the tummy more often, massage near the navel, stroking clockwise with the palm of your hand.

As children get older, other problems appear. At 5-6 years old, there are often intestinal infections, then a violation in the digestion of food - gastritis, liver disease, stomach ulcers. This interferes with the complete digestion of food. A piece can get into the intestine, cause a spasm.

The nervous system in childhood is very vulnerable. Thin children are especially susceptible to this, they are suspicious, impressionable. Before a speech, an exam, even an answer in class, they may develop spasms. At 7-8 years old, this is a familiar state for children. We must take children's problems seriously so that such unrest is not fixed for the rest of our lives.

Preventive measures

In order to prevent the development of intestinal spasms, it is necessary to establish a diet, diversify the menu. For the normal promotion of food, good motor skills need vegetable fiber all year round. Also, such fiber does not need a large amount of digestive enzymes, bile acids. This means that such products do not burden the digestive organs.

To exclude convulsive contraction of the intestinal muscles, you should not overeat. It is especially harmful to overeat at night. Fractional meals in small portions are the best option for digestion. The digestive organs will have time to join the process. Enzymes, bile are produced in sufficient quantities. Digestion goes without problems.

It is also necessary to treat diseases in a timely manner, complications after which are problems with digestion. Try to avoid depression, increase stress resistance.

Conclusion

Severe abdominal cramps should alert, serve as a reason to visit a doctor. Without a reason, they do not arise, they do not go away on their own. During treatment, the prognosis is favorable, severe complications are possible only with untimely seeking medical help, illiterate treatment. To avoid the occurrence of such spasms, one must lead a healthy lifestyle, eat good foods, and avoid stress.

A spasm is a muscle contraction that begins rapidly. The relaxation phase is delayed. Intestinal spasms are the cause of severe abdominal pain. They are also called intestinal colic. Most often, spasm of smooth muscle fibers occurs in the small intestine and is transmitted through all tissues of the digestive tract. To understand how to treat intestinal spasms, you need to understand in what cases they occur.

Spasms in the intestines - how to relieve pain

Paroxysmal abdominal pain is caused by various malfunctions in the gastrointestinal tract. Infants often suffer from spasms. There are also complaints from adults.

On a note! Previously, it was believed that this indicates temporary malfunctions in the intestines or is a condition that precedes and contributes to the development of organic pathology of the gastrointestinal tract in the future. Over time, the opinion of doctors has changed. It is now believed that colic should be taken seriously, thanks to this symptom many organic diseases can be detected.

Among the main causes that provoke the appearance of colic are:

  • digestive disorders;
  • intoxication;
  • stressful situations;
  • helminthiasis;
  • intestinal obstruction.

Digestive disorders include gastritis, hepatitis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, pancreatitis and other diseases. With these pathologies, partially undigested food in the stomach provokes irritation of the intestinal receptors. As a result, spasm of smooth muscles can occur.

Intoxications are provoked by poisoning, viral diseases (flu, acute respiratory infections), ingestion of toxic substances. The walls of the intestine spasm under the influence of toxins, poisons. Also, spasms appear due to intestinal infections. In overly emotional people with stress, spasmodic contractions of the intestines can begin, which are the cause of cramping pains.

Reference! Against the background of emotional upheavals, failures in the autonomic regulation of the functioning of smooth muscle fibers are possible. This causes the appearance of intestinal spasms in case of nervous disorders.

Stress is a harbinger of nervous breakdown

One of the common causes of spasmodic contractions of the intestines are helminthic infestations. Worms, the results of their vital activity irritate the intestinal receptors.

Spasmodic contractions of smooth muscle fibers begin with intestinal obstruction. It develops due to tumors in the intestine, foreign bodies, the development of adhesive disease, the formation of coprolites. Also, helminths can gather into balls, conglomerates, closing the lumen of the intestines.

When pain occurs, a doctor's examination is required. The doctor needs to tell what exactly worries. After all, each pathology that provokes the appearance of spasms is characterized by its own symptoms.

Characteristic features

With intestinal spasms, patients complain of pain of varying intensity. They are cramping and are associated with involuntary contraction of the smooth muscles of the intestine.

Important! Spasms are not an independent disease, they signal the presence of problems in the body. Usually visceral pains appear simultaneously with other symptoms characteristic of the underlying disease.

Table. What signs, in addition to intestinal spasms, appear with the progression of certain diseases.

underlying diseaseSymptoms
peptic ulcer Severe pain syndrome, aggravated at night and during the day with hunger.
Gastritis Discomfort in the epigastric region, nausea, sometimes accompanied by vomiting, weight loss.
liver problems Hepatic colic, pain on the right side, vomiting, yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes.
pancreatitis Painful sensations in the abdomen are characterized as shingles, flatulence, diarrhea, and repeated vomiting appear.
Infections, including intestinal Fever, nausea, sometimes vomiting, the appearance of mucous, bloody discharge in the feces.
Helminthiases Apathy, lethargy, rashes, itching of the skin and anorectal zone.
Bowel obstruction Intense, painful cramps, fecal discharge, gas stops, vomiting, bloating, no peristalsis.

With involuntary painful contractions of the small intestine, patients complain of:

  • bloating;
  • the appearance of uterine rumbling;
  • pressure drop;
  • headache;
  • frequent loose stools.

The doctor makes a preliminary diagnosis based on the symptoms described. But patients need to know that there are different types of spasmodic contractions. They differ depending on the cause of the appearance, the characteristic signs and the location of the focus of the disease.

Types of spasms

Depending on the place where the spasm begins, there are several types:

  • rectal;
  • appendicular;
  • lead;
  • vascular.
  1. Rectal type of spasms appears in those cases when the fibers of the rectum are reduced. People complain about the appearance of frequent urge to defecate.
  2. Appendicular spasms appear with inflammation of the appendix. A little later, symptoms of appendicitis appear.
  3. Lead poisoning develops lead type of spasms. Patients come with complaints not only of pain, but also of fever, tension in the anterior peritoneal wall, the appearance of blood in the oral cavity, and a grayish coating on the gums.
  4. Vascular spasms may occur with atherosclerosis, blockage of the mesenteric veins, hypertensive crisis.

If you experience discomfort, you need to consult a competent specialist. The doctor can determine what caused the appearance of spasmodic contractions of smooth intestinal muscles.

Carrying out diagnostics

It is possible to get rid of recurring spasms if the correct treatment is prescribed. It is selected depending on the cause that causes discomfort. To clarify the diagnosis, a special role is given to the survey. The Doctor explains:

  • the presence / absence of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, problems with the gallbladder in history;
  • the nature of the work, the possibility of poisoning in the workplace is assessed;
  • family history, collection of information about relatives is necessary to assess the likelihood of developing gastrointestinal diseases;
  • the nature of the pain.

Be sure to specify what complaints, in addition to intestinal spasms and pain, the patient still has. After the survey, an external examination, palpation of the abdomen is performed. To clarify the preliminary diagnosis is required:

  • coprogram;
  • general/biochemical examination of blood plasma;
  • Analysis of urine;
  • computed tomography (performed with suspicion of a tumor or damage to the intestine);
  • colonoscopy;
  • sigmoidoscopy.

What kind of tests and studies need to be carried out, the doctor determines.

On a note! Sometimes additional consultation of a surgeon, gastroenterologist, urologist is necessary.

After completing the examination and establishing the cause of the pain, a treatment regimen is selected. In some cases, even hospitalization is required.

Treatment tactics

When contacting the emergency room of a hospital or calling an ambulance, doctors, first of all, exclude possible surgical pathologies. If the patient has acute appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, then an urgent operation is prescribed. If there is no reason for the operation, then further examination is carried out.

The standard treatment regimen includes:

With gastritis, ulcerative lesions, treatment is directed to the elimination of the underlying pathology. Physicians prescribe:

  • antacids: Phospholugel, Gastal, Maalox;
  • antisecretory drugs: Ranitidine;
  • IPP(proton pump inhibitors): Omeprazole, Sanpraz, Emanera, Ortanol;
  • antibacterial agents if the disease is provoked by a bacterial infection: Amoxicillin, Trichopolum, Clarithromycin;
  • anticholinergic drugs: Gastrocepin.

Antacids are needed to reduce acidity in the stomach, they neutralize hydrochloric acid. Antisecretory drugs are designed to reduce the production of gastric juice by blocking histamine receptors. PPIs inhibit the synthesis of enzymes that are required for the production of hydrochloric acid. Anticholinergics inhibit the production of hydrochloric acid.

Depending on the situation, patients with intestinal cramps are prescribed laxatives or antidiarrheal medications. Laxatives are required for constipation, most often Metamucil, Citrucel are recommended. Antidiarrheal drugs are prescribed to normalize the work of the large intestine, when the patient has constant diarrhea: Imodium or Loperamide are recommended.

If it was found that the pain is caused by helminthic invasion, then adequate anthelmintic treatment is required. Nemocide, Pirantel, Dekaris, Nemozol, Karbendacim, Azinox can be prescribed. In some cases, combination therapy is required.

With influenza, respiratory viral infections, therapy is directed to combat the underlying disease with the help of antiviral, antipyretic drugs. Painkillers and drugs that reduce the symptoms of the disease are also prescribed. When complications arise in the form of a bacterial infection, antibiotics are required.

Attention! It is possible to reduce the manifestation of intoxication in viral diseases if you do not forget about the need for abundant drinking. Of the drugs recommend Smecta, activated charcoal.

If severe pain bothers you, then you need to call an ambulance. In the case of intestinal obstruction, irreversible changes in the intestinal walls begin within a day. In other situations, you can try to temporarily alleviate the condition at home.

Relief from intestinal spasms

You can reduce pain, stop spasmodic contractions of smooth muscle using the following methods:

  • taking antispasmodics;
  • use of a rectal suppository with belladonna;
  • warm enema, for the preparation of which it is preferable to use a decoction of mint, lemon balm.

If a person has a painful contraction of the small intestine, then in most cases these methods help, the pain disappears after the passage of gases or liquid feces. The exceptions are cases where the cause of the problems was an infectious lesion or toxins.

When spasms appear, doctors often advise you to stop eating for 12 hours. During this period, it is allowed to drink unsweetened tea and eat self-made crackers. In the following days, all foods that increase gas formation, as well as fatty, spicy, fried foods, smoked meats, marinades, sweets, and canned food are excluded from the diet. The emphasis is on the use of cereals, low-fat fish, sour-milk drinks, boiled vegetables.
