Persen is a popular herbal sedative that is prescribed to adults for sleep problems or stress. But is it possible to give this remedy to children, in what cases and in what dosage?

Release form and composition

Persen is available in tablets, which have a convex round shape and a dark brown shell. They are placed in blisters of ten pieces and are sold in 2-8 blisters in one box. Each tablet contains the following dry extracts as active substances:

  • From valerian - 50 mg.
  • From lemon balm - 25 mg.
  • From peppermint - 25 mg.

Corn starch, MCC, lactose, crospovidone and some other ingredients are added to them, providing density to the core of the tablet. The drug shell is made of wax, povidone, sucrose, calcium carbonate, glycerin and other substances.

In addition to the usual Persen, in pharmacies there are two more options for such a medication - Persen Forte and Persen Night. Both of these drugs are presented in capsules and contain the same components as Persen tablets, but valerian is presented in a higher dosage (125 mg in one capsule). The medication is sold in packs of 10 to 80 red-brown capsules.

Operating principle

All components of Persen have a calming effect, and also have antispasmodic properties. Taking the drug helps to reduce the excitability of the nervous system and improve sleep.

  • Stress and nervous overload.
  • Strong irritability, restlessness and nervousness.
  • Insomnia and trouble falling asleep.
  • Increased excitability of the CNS.
  • Neurosis of average or weak expressiveness.

The same indications for the drug Forte, and Persen Night are prescribed mainly for sleep disorders.

At what age are they prescribed?

Both Persen tablets and Noch or Forte capsules are prescribed for children over 12 years of age.

If a medicine is required for a younger patient, for example, for a child of 7 years old, together with the doctor they select a remedy with a similar effect, but allowed by age.

Side effects

The drug can provoke an allergy in the form of skin redness, swelling, dermatitis, bronchospasm, rash and other symptoms. Prolonged use of tablets sometimes causes constipation. There are no negative effects (withdrawal syndrome) after the end of the intake .

Instructions for use

The tablet should be swallowed and washed down with water. The diet does not affect the time of taking Persen. A single dose of the drug is 2-3 tablets, and it is advised to take them with irritability or nervous excitability twice / thrice a day. If insomnia became the cause of the treatment, then the drug is drunk at night - 30-60 minutes before the child goes to bed.

The maximum dosage of Persen per day is 12 tablets. The duration of use should be determined by the doctor, but the medication should not be drunk for longer than 2 months. If instead of a tablet medicine, the doctor prescribed the drug in Forte capsules, then they drink it according to the same scheme, but at a dose of 1-2 capsules per dose.

Overdose and drug interactions

A very large dose of Persen provokes the appearance of abdominal cramps, hand tremors, weakness, dizziness and other negative symptoms. To eliminate them, it is recommended to wash the stomach and consult a doctor.

Treatment with Persen may enhance the effect of sleeping pills and any drugs that can depress the central nervous system. In addition, taking pills increases the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs and painkillers.
