First Medical Institute Cardiology Department. Clinic of Aortic and Cardiovascular Surgery of the First Moscow Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov. Cardiology Department Doctor

The Department of Preventive and Emergency Cardiology of the Institute of Postgraduate Education was founded in September 2003. She continues the clinical, pedagogical and scientific traditions of one of the oldest therapeutic schools in Russia - the Department of Faculty Therapy of the First Moscow State Medical University named after. THEM. Sechenov (formerly of the Medical Faculty of Moscow University), which at various times was led by outstanding representatives of domestic medicine: M.Ya.Mudrov, G.A.Zakharyin, M.P.Konchalovsky, D.A.Pletnev, V.N.Vinogradov and others.

The department has 20 employees (16 teachers), including 5 professors, 6 doctors and 10 candidates of medical sciences. The department is headed by one of our country’s leading specialists in cardiovascular diseases, Honorary Cardiologist of Russia, Professor Abram Lvovich Syrkin, whose monographs are reference books for several generations of doctors. Professors and teachers have extensive experience in pedagogical and educational work, being at the same time practicing cardiologists and cardiac resuscitation specialists.

The department provides residency training in the specialty “cardiology”, primary training of doctors in the specialty “cardiology” and certification cycles for cardiologists.

Duration of training:
. Professional retraining - 4 months (576 hours)
. Cycle of advanced training with issuance of a certificate - 2 months (288 hours)
After completing the cycle of professional retraining and the final exam, a diploma and certificate of a cardiologist are issued. After completing the certification cycle and the final exam, a cardiologist certificate is issued. Training is provided on both a budget and paid basis.

Training programs, the structure and content of educational cycles fully comply with the Educational Standard. The schedule is drawn up in accordance with the curriculum, educational and educational thematic plans. Study programs in the specialty “cardiology” have full methodological support, including methodological development of lectures, seminars, practical classes, test questions and clinical tasks to control the initial level of knowledge, current thematic control and final control. Teaching is conducted on a modular basis using active forms of learning. Head of the department: cardiologist, general practitioner, candidate of medical sciences.

The modern model of “management” of cardiac patients dictates the need to create specialized departments in a multidisciplinary hospital. This allows us to provide modern medical care to patients with the entire spectrum of diseases of the cardiovascular system in one medical institution. The cardiology department has been operating since November 2006 and currently meets all modern requirements for departments in this area. Our Center diagnoses and treats cardiovascular diseases according to international protocols.

The staff consists of competent, highly qualified, certified cardiologists.

The cardiology department with a resuscitation and intensive care unit works in close connection with related departments working in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. If indicated, patients undergo coronary angiography, shuntography, and ventriculography. If necessary, percutaneous interventions are performed (balloon angioplasty and coronary artery stenting). In addition, within the framework of our center, the patient can undergo such surgical interventions as implantation of a pacemaker, radiofrequency ablation of an arrhythmogenic focus, etc.; as well as interaction with cardiovascular surgeons performing open operations on the heart and blood vessels.

The number of patients treated is steadily growing every year, which indicates the constant improvement of diagnostic and treatment methods, allowing to reduce the overall length of stay of patients in the hospital.

The department provides care to patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases:

  • Coronary heart disease:
    • Stable angina;
    • Post-infarction cardiosclerosis;
    • Unstable angina;
    • Myocardial infarction.
  • Heart rhythm and conduction disturbances;
  • Circulatory failure;
  • Arterial hypertension, including hypertensive crises;
  • Cardiomyopathies: dilated, hypertrophic, restrictive;
  • Infective endocarditis;
  • Pulmonary embolism;
  • Myocarditis, pericarditis.

Diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases is carried out in accordance with modern recommendations in the field of cardiology and from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine.

Also, in our department you can undergo a cardio checkup with an assessment of the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, including stroke.

In our hospital, patients undergo various diagnostic examinations, such as:

  • Electrocardiography;
  • 24 and 48-hour (Holter) ECG monitoring;
  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring;
  • Arteriography;
  • Stress ECG tests (bicycle ergometry, treadmill test, test with dipyridamole);
  • Echocardiography (Doppler ECHO-CG, transesophageal ECHO-CG);
  • Stress ECHO-KG with stress tests and drug tests;
  • Doppler ultrasound and duplex scanning of main and peripheral arteries and veins;
  • Coronary angiography, angiography of other vascular systems;
  • Invasive electrophysiological studies;
  • Computed tomography (CT);
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI);
  • Radionuclide study (scintigraphy of the myocardium at rest and with load, lungs, thyroid gland, skeleton, etc.);
  • Overnight pulse oximetry, nasopharyngeal flow study;
  • Polysomnography;
  • All types of laboratory diagnostics;
  • Consultation with related specialists, if necessary.

Treatment options

Therapeutic (medication, physiotherapy, psychotherapy). In the medicinal treatment of patients, drugs are used that have successfully passed a number of clinical trials and have proven their effectiveness in treating millions of people.

Endovascular methods of treating arrhythmias (catheter radiofrequency ablation, including atrial fibrillation), coronary artery disease (balloon angioplasty, stenting).

Implantation of pacemakers, including those with resynchronization function, defibrillators-cardioverters.

Surgical (coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), correction of congenital heart defects, prosthetics and reconstruction of heart valves, prosthetics of arteries, aorta, plastic surgery of post-infarction aneurysms, microsurgical operations on veins).

The priority of our Center is a comprehensive, individual approach to treatment: in addition to a cardiologist, other leading specialists in all areas are involved.

Treatment and examination of patients is carried out in comfortable conditions. Currently, the department has 15 wards, designed for 1-4 patients, including superior wards (1- and 2-bed wards).

A separate structure of our department is the resuscitation and intensive care ward (PRIT) for cardiac patients, intended for initial admission and provision of specialized medical care to patients with acute cardiac pathology.

Main areas of work of PRIT

  • Reception and treatment of patients with acute coronary syndrome, including the performance of emergency and early invasive interventions - coronary angiography and coronary stenting (work is ensured by close cooperation with the department of radiosurgical methods of diagnosis and treatment);
  • Reception and treatment of patients with cardiac rhythm and conduction disorders, including emergency and planned cardioversion and temporary cardiac pacing;
  • Reception and treatment of patients with pulmonary embolism, complicated by hypertensive crises, acute and chronic heart failure and other acute or decompensated chronic cardiovascular diseases.

PRIT staff is a highly qualified team that combines professionalism, an individual approach to each patient, friendliness and attention to patients and their relatives.

Preliminary face-to-face and on-line consultations of patients and documents are possible.

To be referred to the Pirogov Center, a standard referral for consultation is sufficient (for example, form 057U or any other accepted at your institution).

If you have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, sign up for a consultation with our doctors.

Clinical observations

  • Atypical angina: features of diagnosis and treatment
  • Possibilities of treating myocardial infarction and its complications in a multidisciplinary hospital
  • Obstructive sleep apnea as a mask for sick sinus syndrome
  • Myocardial infarction as a “mask” of urgent surgical pathology
