We sew a mask for sleep and rest. How to sew a sleep mask with your own hands? DIY sleep mask from socks

To make one sleep mask measuring 9.5 * 20 cm, you will need:
1. Satin or black silk, size 10 * 45 cm;
2. Lilac lace with one figured edge, size 8*21 cm;
3. Black satin binding, 55 cm;
4. Black elastic band, with one openwork edge, 30 cm;
5. Cotton fabric, 18*15cm;
6. Lavender, dried flowers, 5-7 g;
7. Cardboard for pattern size 10 * 21 cm;
8. Stationery scissors;
9. Scissors for cutting fabric;
10. Pencil;
11. Threads in the color of the fabric;
12. Needle for handicrafts;
13. Chalk for cutting on fabric;
14. Tailor's pins;
15. Iron;
16. Household sewing machine.

First you need to prepare a pattern for the future mask. It is best made from thick cardboard. When finished, a medium-sized mask is 20 cm wide and 9.5 cm high.
According to the pattern, you should outline and cut out the details of the mask from the atlas. There is no need to add seams for processing along the outer cuts, since the outer cut of the product will be processed with a bias trim. Before cutting, the satin should be ironed with steam. The outer part of the mask must be solid. On the reverse side, additional allowances can be laid on the details of the mask and the cut can be processed at a distance of 6 cm from the side cut. Thanks to this design, if desired, it will always be possible to pull out the sachet from the mask, and the product itself is easy to wash and dry.

Then you need to cut out the finishing part of the mask from lilac lace. Details from satin and lace must be fastened together with pins, and then swept along the perimeter at a distance of 2 mm from the outer sections. Then the pins must be removed.

On the reverse side of the mask, a cut under the sachet should be processed - stitch its ends with a hem seam with a closed cut.

Next, you need to fasten both parts of the mask together, putting them on the wrong side of each other and equalizing all the sections.

All layers of the future mask must be joined together around the perimeter with a small running line, after which the pins can be removed.

An elastic band should be attached to the back of the product. After that, it is necessary to sew the edging inlay along the outer cut of the mask.

Then the edging must be wrapped on the outside of the product and fixed with an auxiliary running line.

Next, you need to lay the finishing line along the edge of the oblique inlay, after which the basting threads can be removed.
In finished form, the mask must be gently ironed from the face and from the inside.

How nice it is to wake up in the morning well-rested and rested. But this does not always work out, because he does not fall asleep the night before. Too bright moonlight or a nightlight left on for the child may interfere with you, or maybe the first rays of the sun do not allow you to sleep for an hour or two. There are also times when you can take a nap in transport or during the day in the fresh air, as summer residents like to do. In such situations, an eye mask for sleep will be indispensable.

Today, stores provide a wide selection of products of this type - from simple in shape, plain masks, to colorful multi-colored ones with intricate outlines. But it’s not so difficult to make original sleep masks with your own hands.

How to make a sleep mask?

To get started, prepare everything you need so that during work you do not have to be distracted in search of the desired part. Basically, the mask consists of three layers of fabric. The inner layer, which will be in contact with the skin of the face, must be made of natural soft material. It can be flannel, cotton or chintz.

For the inner lining, which is responsible for the softness of the entire product, so that you will feel comfortable while using the mask, a synthetic winterizer is usually used. You can use it in one or more layers, as you wish. The choice of material for the outer side of the mask is completely unimportant in terms of comfort, so in this matter you can be guided purely by your own predilections for any colors, patterns, patterns, etc. Give free rein to your imagination. And in this case, we use a satin fabric covered with a layer of lace.

So, let's conduct a master class on how to sew a sleep mask.

1. We have already chosen three types of material (cotton, synthetic winterizer, satin) and lace for decoration. We will also prepare: a sewing machine, a sheet of paper, scissors, pins, threads, a bias tape and an elastic band.

2. In order for us to get an even and symmetrical sleep mask, the pattern must first be drawn on paper.

Now we cut it out, apply it to the fabric and outline it. We fold the fabric in the following order: cotton, synthetic winterizer, satin, lace.

3. We fix the layers with pins and sew.

4. Cut off all excess fabric.

5. Sew an oblique trim along the edge of the mask.

6. We make an elastic band. To do this, we measure 80 cm of the inlay and fold it in half, after which we sew.

Many people ignore sleep masks. And they are very helpful in different situations. For example, during daytime sleep or on a long journey. At home, so that the flickering TV or computer, the headlights of passing cars do not interfere with sleep, you can put on a mask and sleep peacefully. With the help of a mask, we deceive our body in good intentions. Because we need melatonin to sleep. It is produced only in the dark. With a mask we create an artificial night, thanks to which we can fall asleep peacefully and have a good night's sleep!

I can confirm this with my own example)

We look -

Healthy and full sleep is not only a guarantee of your beautiful appearance and well-being in the morning. It also helps to increase immunity, protecting against various diseases of the nervous system. Such a dream is possible only if certain factors are observed: a suitable time for sleep, comfortable clothes and a mattress, a comfortable air temperature, and complete darkness. If everything from the list is clear and easy for us to implement, then the last point raises questions. After all, it is not always possible to achieve complete darkness with the help of curtains. In this case, there is a dream mask. It is very easy to make it with your own hands, so we suggest you study the master class on creating a useful accessory.

What is the best material to use?

A do-it-yourself dream mask is made of fabric and elastic. Lace, rhinestones, fleece appliqués, and so on can be used as decoration. The tools we need are a needle and thread and scissors.

The eye patch for sleeping consists of three parts: main, seal and lining. For the main (upper) part, satin or silk is usually used. This fabric is pleasant to the touch and looks beautiful. You can also use other synthetic and natural materials (such as linen or cotton).

Non-woven fabric is used as a sealant. It is soft and dense enough - this is what is needed for a night accessory. Thanks to this layer, a do-it-yourself dream mask will not put pressure on the eyes and at the same time will keep its shape, and light will not pass through it.

The lining is the part that is applied to the face. That is why to create it, they use the most pleasant material for the body - flannel or fleece. This fabric does not cause irritation.

Basics of Sewing a Night Bandage

Before you start any sewing, you need to make a pattern. Our case is no exception. The main task of a night accessory is to make our rest comfortable. Therefore, the pattern of a sleep mask should correspond to the anatomical features of the face.

The standard mask size is 190 x 95 mm. It has an oval shape with a notch for the nose. This is the most common type of mask. There are also those that consist, for example, of two triangles.

You can print an example of a pattern or draw it yourself using the photo above. It is better to make it immediately on thick paper, so that it is more convenient to work with it.

Let's start sewing

The master class (how to make a sleep mask) consists of the following:

  1. Prepare a paper pattern, tools and necessary material (for example, silk, interlining and flannel).
  2. Attach the pattern to the flannel, pin it with pins and circle it around the contour. Cut out one piece.
  3. Make two more of the same details from silk and interlining.
  4. Now fold the mask: flannel is placed face down, interlining, silk face up. Connect the layers with pins.
  5. Cut off a piece of rubber. It should be not too long so that the blindfold for sleep does not fall off, and not short so that nothing presses.
  6. Cut out a rectangle from the same material as the top of the mask. In length, it should be equal to the size of the elastic band, and in width it should be two to three times larger.
  7. Sew the length of the rectangle, leaving the edges undarned.
  8. Then make two parallel stitches in the middle so that the strip is divided into three parts in length. Moreover, an elastic band should go in the middle.
  9. Insert the elastic into the prepared piece and secure the ends with pins.
  10. Attach the elastic around the edges to the mask. You need to insert between the top and middle layers.
  11. Sew all the details together, leaving a small hole through which you can turn the mask inside out.
  12. Make notches along the unsewn edges. To do this, make frequent small cuts with scissors. This is necessary so that the fabric is evenly distributed, and not gathered into an accordion.
  13. Unscrew the product.

How to decorate a sleep bandage?

A do-it-yourself dream mask is an accessory that can also be beautifully decorated:

  • make an application from fleece (these can be eyes, an animal muzzle, glasses, and so on);
  • decorate along the edge with lace;
  • glue sequins or rhinestones;
  • do embroidery and much more.

Unusual sleep mask

A do-it-yourself dream mask will turn out to be quite unusual if you give it an interesting shape. For example, a bandage in the form of a cat's face will look simple and original.

To do this, add triangular ears to the usual pattern. Then cut out all three parts and sew the mask as described above. You can decorate it with antennae, eyes and a fleece nose.

Similarly, you can make a mask in the form of a muzzle of a panda or other animal. For more realism, choose a material that matches in color, and also do not forget about the features. For example, a panda has black circles around its eyes, so they also need to be recreated on the mask.

A comfortable do-it-yourself sleep mask is sewn quickly and easily. You do not need any individual or very complex pattern.

As a rule, a blindfold for sleeping is sewn from 2-3 layers of material:

  • Outer side (mandatory layer). Choose any fabric you like. You can give preference to both delicate silk and ordinary cotton, both to the one-color material and to the one that is decorated with prints.
  • Lining (optional layer). The inner lining provides softness to the product. It also allows you to keep its shape. However, if you wish, you can choose not to do it at all. In most cases, a synthetic winterizer is chosen to create this layer. It can be used in multiple or just one layer. Also a good solution is interlining or fleece. But keep in mind that such materials are very warm. Your face should not sweat while wearing the product.
  • Inner side (mandatory layer). If you decide to make a sleep bandage yourself, take the choice of material for this layer responsibly. The inner side is the one that comes into contact with the skin of the face. You only need natural soft materials. Use chintz, cotton or flannel.

Do not refuse to use satin when sewing the inside of the bandage. The material is incredibly beautiful and spectacular, as well as pleasant to the touch. Your sleep will be strong and rosy.

Necessary tools and materials

Before sewing a sleep mask, stock up on the necessary materials and tools. When buying fabric, consider the standard dimensions of the product: they are 19.5 x 19.5 cm.

In addition to the basic materials, when sewing bandages, the following are used:

  • Rubber bands. Necessary for fixing the bandage on the head. For convenience, choose an elastic band 2-3 cm wide. You need 30 cm of the product.
  • Decoration Materials. You can decorate the product with guipure, beads, lace, appliqués, ribbons. It all depends on your desire and taste. The average amount of lace, bias tape or trim for trim is 70 cm.

Before you make a sleep mask with your own hands, you will need to create a pattern. To make the template, use cardboard or any heavy paper. Cut out the pattern with regular scissors or a knife.

Step-by-step instruction

In order for your product to have an attractive appearance, be responsible for creating a pattern for it. You can create a pattern larger than originally required. Then "customize" it to fit your size over and over again. In any case, the process does not take much time.

After the ideal pattern is completed, proceed according to the following scheme:

  • Take the main fabric. Cut out rectangles (2 copies) of the same size from it. Please note that the dimensions of the rectangles should be slightly larger than the dimensions of the bandage elements on your pattern.
  • Take a remnant or a pencil. Circle the elements of the product on the pattern.
  • Using a clerical knife or ordinary tailor's scissors, cut the material according to the lines drawn earlier. When choosing a tool, give preference to one that is guaranteed not to leave protruding threads and notches.

IMPORTANT! When cutting out pieces, always leave a seam allowance! Otherwise, the mask will be smaller.

  • If you want to create an inner layer, do it the same way. But keep in mind that the dimensions of elements made of synthetic winterizer, fleece or non-woven fabric should be smaller (on each side by about 4-5 mm.). Otherwise, they will not be able to properly settle down inside the product, and will constantly stray into a lump.
  • Measure your head. This is necessary in order to determine the length of the elastic band. Do not forget that too tight an elastic band will squeeze and pinch the head. The main purpose of the elastic is only to fix the mask on the eyes.
  • Run the inner layer according to the indicated scheme. Dimensions - similar to those of the outer layer.
  • After that, you need to sew all the elements of the product, leaving a place for the elastic. If you want to get a “going out” sleep mask, you can process this detail with a beautiful fabric. For example, sheathe it with satin material, making the original "prefabricated" belt.
  • Thread the elastic through the holes and sew.
  • If you want to decorate the front surface, sew ruffles, beads and rhinestones on it. Please note that only the outer part of the mask should be decorated. No need to sew decorative products on the inside.

You can carry out all sewing work manually or using a machine. In the first case, you will have to spend more time creating even and uniform seams. If you do not have a typewriter, then it will be difficult to make a “belt” for an elastic band. As a decoration, you can choose guipure framing. Also a good option - sequins, rhinestones and embroidery.

If desired, you can sew a bag to store the bandage. In this case, the product will not get dirty on trips and gather dust at home.
