Inflammatory processes and use of Terzhinan

  • For treatment and prevention, one tablet must be administered once a day for the period of time prescribed by the doctor.

    The tablet should be removed from the packaging immediately before use and inserted into the vagina as quickly as possible, otherwise it may begin to soften and melt. A soft tablet is much more difficult to insert into the vagina correctly. To remove Terzhinan from the package, the foil must be torn along the length of the tablet or cut with scissors.

    Terzhinan should always be administered with freshly washed hands with soap or wearing sterile surgical gloves. Do not manipulate with dirty hands. Moreover, hands that have not been washed for an hour are considered dirty, even if the woman was at home or in a relatively clean room.

    Before administering the Terzhinan tablet, it is recommended to wash your hands with soap - solid or liquid, and not to use various commercially available lotions, waters, foaming compounds, emulsions and other products designed to remove contaminants from the skin of the hands. The only product that can be used to wash and treat your hands before inserting the tablets into the vagina is antiseptic or antibacterial liquids.

    In addition, you should avoid touching the anus with your fingers while inserting the tablet into the vagina, as this may lead to additional infection.

    If part of the course of treatment with Terzhinan tablets occurs during menstrual bleeding, then it should not be interrupted. In other words, the tablets must continue to be inserted into the vagina during menstrual bleeding, since their effectiveness does not decrease. But during menstruation, you should especially carefully observe the rules of hygiene when administering tablets.

    If a woman has been diagnosed with vaginitis, it is recommended to undergo a course of therapy not only for her, but also for her sexual partner. This recommendation should be considered mandatory in case of trichomoniasis. In other situations, treatment of the sexual partner is advisory.

    During the entire period of therapy, it is necessary to refrain from sexual intercourse and not to use lubricants, gels, ointments and any other products intended for insertion into the vagina, since they can completely neutralize the therapeutic effect of Terzhinan.

    How to properly administer Terzhinan vaginally?

    It is optimal to administer the drug in the evening hours just before going to bed, but if for some reason this is not possible, then Terzhinan can be used at any time of the day. The main thing is to follow the rule - administer one suppository per day.

    First, before inserting the pill, you should wash the external genitalia and perineal area, including the anus, with warm water and soap. It is not recommended to use any gels or other hygiene products for washing. Then you need to wash your hands with soap or treat them with an antiseptic liquid. If it is impossible to wash your hands for some reason, you should put on sterile surgical gloves, which are sold in pharmacies.

    After this, remove the tablet from the package and immerse it in a cup of clean, cool boiled water for 20 - 30 seconds, so that the top layer dissolves a little and the drug begins to act immediately.

    The tablet is removed from the cup and taken into a position convenient for administration. We should dwell on this point in more detail, since the instructions for use indicate that the tablet should be administered in a lying position. However, it is not convenient for all women to administer the drug while lying on their back, since the tablet is quite small and difficult to push into a collapsed vagina. Therefore, doctors recommend administering the drug in the position in which it is most convenient to do this, but in close proximity to the bed or sofa, on which you will need to lie down for a while after performing the manipulation.

    The most convenient positions for administering Terzhinan tablets are:
    1. Squatting with your knees wide apart.
    2. Standing, with one leg raised and resting on a chair or other elevation.
    3. Lying on your back with your knees and hips bent and your legs pulled to your stomach.

    Having chosen the optimal position, you need to carefully spread the labia apart with the fingers of your non-working hand (left for right-handers and right for left-handers) and expose the entrance to the vagina. Then, using the index finger of your working hand, push the tablet forward deeply until it stops moving.

    After this, the finger must be removed from the vagina and, making a minimum of movements, lie on your back on a bed or sofa. You should lie in this position for 10–20 minutes so that the tablet is completely dissolved and the active substances begin to be absorbed into the cells of the vaginal mucosa.

    After 10 - 20 minutes, you can get up, put on your panties, putting a panty liner on them, since discharge may appear, and go about your business.

    How long does the treatment last?

    For treatment and prevention, it is necessary to administer one tablet of Terzhinan every day during the entire course of therapy. Treatment of various vaginitis usually lasts 10 days, but with confirmed candidiasis, the course of therapy is extended to 20 days. Preventive use of Terzhinan tablets is carried out for 6 days.

    Application of Terzhinan during the day

    The use of Terzhinan during the day is quite possible if the woman has the conditions for proper insertion of the tablets into the vagina. The instructions for use of the drug indicate that it is recommended to use the tablets in the evening, before going to bed. This recommendation is due to the fact that such tactics will ensure that the active components remain in the vagina for a long time, for several hours, from where they will flow out in minimal quantities due to the horizontal position of the body. However, this recommendation is not strict and can be ignored.

    That is, Terzhinan tablets can be inserted into the vagina during the day, in the morning, in the early evening, etc. But in this case, after performing the manipulation, you should definitely lie down for 10–20 minutes on your back on a flat surface, and only then get up or sit down. Also, when administering Terzhinan tablets during the daytime, panty liners should be used, since a small part of the melted medicine will flow out under the influence of gravity. In addition, it is morally and psychologically necessary to adjust to the fact that with daily administration of Terzhinan tablets, it is necessary to increase the duration of therapy by approximately 1/4 - 1/3 in order to compensate for the leaked volume of the drug. That is, if a 10-day course of Terzhinan is prescribed, then when administering tablets during the day, it should be increased to 12–13 days, etc.

    After Terzhinan

    If the tablets were inserted into the vagina in the evening, before going to bed, then in the morning the woman may have yellow, profuse mucous discharge, sometimes lemon-colored, for 1 to 3 hours. This is normal and represents the release of excess and remnants of the tablet from the vagina. The discharge will stop as soon as the woman completes the course of therapy or prevention with Terzhinan tablets. If the tablets are used during the day, such discharge may appear approximately an hour after administration and continue for another 2 to 4 hours.

    In some women, Terzhinan causes severe itching, which they mistake for a relapse of thrush. However, this drug is not capable of causing thrush, since it contains components that have a detrimental effect on fungi of the genus Candida, which are the causative agents of the disease. Therefore, other factors are the cause of itching and discharge during the use of Terzhinan.

    So, normally, in the first days of treatment, the tablets can actually cause itching, which gradually decreases and completely disappears by the end of therapy. If the itching does not decrease or disappear, then most likely this is a manifestation of an allergic reaction that requires discontinuation of Terzhinan.

    After using Terzhinan, many doctors recommend starting a course of any suppositories containing lactobacilli and bifidobacteria to quickly restore the microflora. The suppositories most often used for this purpose are Vagisan, Acylact, Bifidumbacterin and others. Separately, it should be noted the drug Vagilak, which is capsules for oral administration containing strains of lactobacilli that penetrate well from the intestines into the vagina and take root well in it. Also, to restore the vaginal microflora after treatment with Terzhinan, you can take regular probiotics, since the normalization of the intestinal microflora will speed up this process in the genitals.

    Impact on the ability to operate machinery

    Terzhinan tablets do not affect the ability to control mechanisms, so women using the drug can engage in any type of activity that requires high reaction speed and concentration.

    Overdose

    An overdose of Terzhinan is impossible due to the insignificant absorption of the active components into the systemic circulation.

    Interaction with other drugs

    Terzhinan tablets do not significantly interact with any other medications, so they can be used in combination with any medications.

    Treatment with Terzhinan - effective regimens

    Many women are not completely satisfied with the result of treatment with Terzhinan, since they may still have some discomfort or unpleasant sensations after completion of therapy or may arise directly during the use of the tablets. To relieve these unpleasant sensations, among which the most common are itching, burning, discharge, pain at the end of urination and pain during sexual intercourse, Terzhinan is used in combination with other medications.

    So, to relieve itching and prevent triangular discharge similar to thrush that occurs in the first days of using Terzhinan, it is recommended to use Pimafucin suppositories for 3 to 5 days beforehand. This tactic makes the use of Terzhinan comfortable and almost invisible.

    To relieve the discomfort that occurs after treatment with Terzhinan, which in most cases is caused by the absence of normal vaginal microflora, since the pathological one was destroyed during therapy, and the normal one has not yet had time to populate, microsyringes with the antiseptic Tantum Rose or probiotic preparations are used. Among the probiotics, the most effective are Vagisan, Vagilak, Acipol and others.

    Separately, it is worth noting Vagilak, which is capsules for oral administration, which is very convenient because you do not need to insert anything into the vagina again. These capsules contain lactobacilli that can penetrate the vaginal wall through the intestinal wall, quickly colonize it and take root, thanks to which Vagilak quickly restores normal microflora.

    Use for thrush

    For thrush, Terzhinan is an effective treatment, since it contains two active components that have a detrimental effect on different types of fungi. However, to achieve stable remission and stop relapses of thrush for a long period of time, Terzhinan tablets for thrush should be used for 20 days. If not only fungi of the genus Candida, but also mycelium are found in a vaginal smear, then for effective treatment, antifungal drugs containing fluconazole (Diflucan, Diflazol, etc.) should be taken orally in combination with Terzhinan tablets. Moreover, antifungal drugs should be taken during the entire course of therapy with Terzhinan, that is, for 20 days. The drug regimen can be twofold:
    1. Take any fluconazole drug 50 mg once a day daily.
    2. Take any fluconazole drug 150 mg 1 time per day every three days.

    If the specified treatment regimen is followed, thrush is completely cured and its relapses do not bother the woman for several years.

    Terzhinan during pregnancy and breastfeeding

    During the entire first trimester of pregnancy (from the beginning to the 12th week of gestation inclusive), Terzhinan tablets cannot be used, since the active components can penetrate the uterus and have a negative effect on the fetus. However, if the woman’s condition is not satisfactory, which can also negatively affect the course of pregnancy, then Terzhinan tablets are also used in the first trimester.

    From the second trimester of pregnancy until childbirth, Terzhinan can be used without fear, since during these periods of gestation the drug is no longer able to have a negative effect on the fetus.

    It is not recommended to use Terzhinan during breastfeeding, however, if there are indications and the benefits clearly outweigh the risks, the drug may be used.

    Side effects

    Terzhinan can cause the following symptoms as side effects:
    • Feeling of itching, burning and irritation in the vagina;
    • Allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, itchy skin, etc.).
    Itching, burning and irritation in the vagina usually occur at the beginning of therapy, and completely disappear by the time it is completed.

    Contraindications for use

    Terzhinan tablets are contraindicated for use only if a woman has an individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

    What is better than Terzhinan?

    It is almost impossible to answer the question of which is better than Terzhinan, since in medical practice there is no concept of best, but there is a definition of optimal. Thus, the optimal drug is considered to be the one that is most effective for a given woman at a given time. This means that for the same disease, completely different drugs can be effective at different periods of time, each of which will be optimal, but at different times.

    Terzhinan is an effective drug that works well for many women, which is why it is considered a “good” drug. If the drug is not suitable for any woman at a given moment, then she will have to try using analogues. And the analogue that turns out to be the most suitable and effective will be the best for this woman at the current moment in time.

    According to reviews from doctors and women, good analogues of Terzhinan are Vagisept, Polizhinaks, Gaynomax and Elzhina. Therefore, if Terzhinan for some reason is not suitable for a woman or is not effective enough, then it is recommended to try these drugs, which are highly likely to be better.

    Terzhinan is a unique combination drug used for local treatment in gynecology. It has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiprotozoal effects, and also has a positive effect on the integrity of the vaginal mucosa and the constancy of pH.

    The effectiveness of this medication is determined by the substances included in its composition, for which Terzhinan is prescribed for a variety of gynecological diseases. It contains the following components:

    • Neomycin sulfate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the aminoglycoside group;
    • Ternidazole is a substance whose action is aimed at destroying Trichomonas, as well as anaerobic microorganisms;

    3. This medication is also used as a prophylactic agent to prevent the development of various infections that can develop during surgical interventions, before an abortion or childbirth, on the eve of intrauterine examinations and under other similar circumstances.

    Remember that this drug, like any other drug, has contraindications for use - conditions for which this medication cannot be used. It is better to refuse treatment with Terzhinan suppositories if you are hypersensitive to at least one of the components present in its composition.

    Directions for use and dosage

    If this drug is used incorrectly, if the specified dosage is exceeded, various adverse reactions may occur, for which Terzhinan suppositories should be used a certain number of times. Among the side effects that occur during the use of this medication, the following conditions can be identified:

    • allergic manifestations;
    • burning or itching in the vaginal area.

    As a rule, doctors recommend using one vaginal tablet once before bed. Having previously moistened it in boiled water, the candle should be inserted deep into the vagina, and then lie down for 10 - 15 minutes. The average duration of continuous treatment is 10 days. Throughout the entire period of treatment, a medical specialist monitors the patient’s condition and, if necessary, can increase the duration of treatment therapy. For example, if mycosis is confirmed, the doctor most often increases the duration of treatment to 20 days, regardless of the onset of menstruation.

    Use of this drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding

    Doctors allow the use of Terzhinan during pregnancy, as well as during breastfeeding. It is most appropriate and safe for the health of an unborn baby to use such vaginal tablets from the second trimester of pregnancy. Some women from time to time encounter such an unpleasant phenomenon as genital infections. They harm the overall health of women, and also disrupt the rhythm of their usual and fulfilling life. In most cases, infectious diseases of this kind require an integrated approach, for which today a drug such as Terzhinan (Tergynan) is very actively used. This product is available directly in the form of suppositories, as well as tablets for vaginal use. Produced by the French company Laboratoires Bouchara-Recordati.

    Instructions for use Terzhinan

    The drug, produced in the form of tablets and suppositories, is intended for the treatment of many diseases in women. As a rule, one suppository is prescribed per day, which is recommended to be kept in water for about 30 seconds before use.

    The medicine, regardless of the form of release, is recommended to be administered before falling asleep, so that during prolonged sleep it has a longer effect. If the suppository needs to be used during the daytime, then after the procedure it is recommended to lie down for at least 15 minutes. Sometimes treatment may involve the simultaneous use of both tablets and suppositories.

    The course of treatment with the drug is usually 10 days. For complex mycoses, therapy should be extended to 20 days. The drug can be used even during menstruation.

    Tablets, like Terzhinan suppositories, are inserted into the vagina. You can take no more than 1 tablet per day, which is administered immediately before bedtime. This form of release of the drug is also suitable for sanitation of the vagina before childbirth, abortion and before surgical operations in the vaginal area. To do this, 1 tablet of the medicine must be administered 2 hours before the procedure.

    Among other things, the tablets of this drug are also well suited for men who also experience thrush. However, for some, this form of medicine turns out to be completely inconvenient to use - in such cases, you should pay attention to analogues produced in the form of an ointment or cream.

    Terzhinan in the form of candles

    Suppositories are a more common dosage form of the drug when compared directly with tablets. They are intended for local vaginal use. With the help of the described remedy, you can get rid of not only candidiasis, but also many other problems - trichomonas, bacterial infections and inflammatory processes. Due to this, suppositories are used for many diseases of the female reproductive system. In addition, Terzhinan in the form of suppositories acts quite gently, due to which the vaginal microflora remains unchanged. It should be noted that some drugs of similar action do not differ in this feature and after their use the microflora in the vagina is somewhat disturbed.

    When a woman is carrying a child, she is very susceptible to the appearance of all kinds of diseases, including in the genitals. The use of medication during pregnancy is not prohibited, however, it should be under the strict supervision of a gynecologist. The most dangerous is the use of suppositories directly in the first trimester, but during the second and third there is no such restriction. Most often, Terzhinan is used during pregnancy to treat vaginitis, which is characterized by the parallel appearance of inflammatory processes in soft tissues, as well as bacteria and fungi.

    It should be noted that when using the drug during pregnancy, there is no fear that it will harm the unborn child. It does not affect the fetus and cannot cause an overdose.

    Terzhinan in tablet form

    In addition to suppositories, the antifungal agent is also available in tablet form. For ease of use, the tablets have an oblong shape; they are difficult to confuse with another medicine, since there is a “T” on both sides.

    The drug is available in cardboard packaging, and the tablets themselves are contained in an aluminum blister (6 pieces).

    Just like a suppository, the tablet should be kept in a glass of water for 30 seconds before administration - this will begin its action much faster. The product in the presented dosage form should be used before bedtime.

    The described tablets are approved for use even during pregnancy and lactation.

    Indications for use of Terzhinan

    Tergynan is a drug that has a fairly wide spectrum of action. Therefore, it is very often prescribed for the following diseases:

    • Inflammatory processes in the vagina, the main cause of which is Trichomonas;
    • Thrush, having absolutely any stage;
    • Vaginitis of bacterial origin;
    • Vaginitis of mixed type;
    • Mycoses;
    • Colpitis;
    • Carrying out vaginal sanitation;
    • Prevention of inflammatory diseases after childbirth, abortion and diagnostic manipulations.

    Terzhinan is not suitable for the treatment of cystitis.

    Terzhinan price

    Terzhinan is a fairly expensive drug that can be bought at any pharmacy. It must be said that different forms of the drug have different costs, which must be taken into account directly when choosing and purchasing the product.

    The purchase of Terzhinan should be made only after this drug has been prescribed by a doctor based on the diagnosis. Otherwise, you can make a useless waste if, for example, the patient makes an incorrect diagnosis on his own (some people, due to the lack of opportunity to visit a doctor, self-medicate).

    Terzhinan's analogs

    Many patients prefer to choose Terzhinan’s analogue, which is more affordable from a financial point of view, but no less effective. Terzhinan can be called a unique drug, which is facilitated by all its components. Consequently, this remedy has no direct analogues, however, you can choose a medicine that is similar in effect and contains components identical to the original.

    The following products are most often chosen instead of Terzhinan:

    • Polygynax. This is a very effective drug, which is the closest substitute for Terzhinan. Polygynax has virtually no side effects, and its composition is distinguished by several substances that are also found in the original product. The main difference between this drug is that it does not contain a substance such as ternidazole. Consequently, Polygynax is not suitable for the treatment of such an ailment of the female genital organs as Trichomonas colpitis. Also, Macedonian scientists Goran D, Vesna A, Adela S, Biljana TK, Snezana M in 2004 found that Polygynax is effective for the treatment of fungal vaginitis.
    • Pimafucin. It refers directly to antifungal agents, which are used to treat many diseases. Pimafucin is convenient because it is available in several dosage forms - suppositories, ointments and tablets. The advantage of this antifungal drug is that during therapy with its use you do not have to give up sexual activity. Sometimes patients complain of side effects of Pimafucin such as burning, nausea and vomiting (they usually appear in the first days of treatment).
    • Meratin Combi. It has a pronounced therapeutic effect that manifests itself within a short time. The active ingredients are ornidazole, as well as neomycin sulfate, nystatin and prednisolone. In addition to antimicrobial, Meratin Combi has a corticosteroid and antiseptic effect. It is available directly in the form of vaginal tablets, which are effective in treating the majority of vaginitis. Due to its special composition, this product is often used directly for vaginal sanitation, which is performed before an abortion or childbirth. If we talk about such a detail as the cost of Meratin Combi, then it is practically no different from Terzhinan. This substitute is highly not recommended for use in combination with other drugs, and especially with hormonal drugs.
    • Clotrimazole. The product is of synthetic origin and successfully fights fungal diseases of the vagina. Clotrimazole has virtually no side effects, with the exception of minor allergic manifestations. The drug has some contraindications, one of which is early pregnancy.

    It should be noted that some Terzhinan substitutes are more effective. This can be explained by the fact that they are significantly more aggressive, and, accordingly, the likelihood of adverse reactions. It is for this reason that it is not recommended to replace the drug without the knowledge of your gynecologist.

    Evidence of effectiveness, opinions of medical scientists

    In an article by Vladimir Anatolyevich Moroz from the National Pharmaceutical University (Kharkov), published in the scientific and practical journal “Dermatovenereology. Cosmetology. Sexopathology" (2010), it is indicated that in certain nosologies the effectiveness of Terzhinan is 94.4%. In addition, the medical scientist writes that this combo product has all the properties of 5-nitroimidazoles, but has no contraindications for topical use, since it does not have bioavailability in this case. This is the key “zest” of the combined drug ternidazole-neomycin-nystatin (the four components are discussed in detail below). The product has a synergistic antimicrobial, antiprotozoal and fungicidal effect, without leading to a violation of the quantitative and qualitative composition of the vaginal normobiota in general. The use of Terzhinan is regulated, among other things, by orders of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 286 of June 7, 2004 and No. 96 of December 27, 2007.

    Pharmacological scientists Vitaly Iosifovich Mamchur (Doctor of Medical Sciences) and Sergey Nikolaevich Dronov (Candidate of Medical Sciences) in an article in the journal “Medical Aspects of Women’s Health” (2015) describe some advantages of the combo drug: compact, elongated-flattened tablet shape, increasing the area of contact with the mucous membrane; smooth glossy surface and rounded edges, preventing irritation; prevention of fungal growth, in particular as a result of irrational antibiotic therapy; greater compliance (voluntary adherence to the prescribed regimen); the presence of 4 basic substances in the composition, which prevents polypharmacy (medication load).

    Iraida Stepanovna Sidorova and Ekaterina Igorevna Borovkova in an article in a magazine
    "Russian Bulletin of Obstetrician-Gynecologist" (2007) conducted an experiment comparing Terzhinan, Neo-Penotran, Dalacin and Betadine®. Terzhinan agent provided 98 percent cure rate along with Neo-Penotran. It was also distinguished by the most rapid action and positive effect on microcirculation.

    Savicheva Alevtina Mikhailovna, Spasibova Elena Vladimirovna in 2017 (Journal of Obstetrics and Women's Diseases) tested the terzhinan drug in vitro on microorganisms such as Candida spp., Enterobacteriaceae, Atopobium vaginae, etc. The drug showed high efficiency against the dominant part of microbes.

    Savicheva Alevtina Mikhailovna, Zakharevich Natalya Nikolaevna, Mikhnina E.A. from the Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology named after. Otta, St. Petersburg, determined the effectiveness of the combo drug to be 93.8% and 100% for vaginal candidiasis for non-pregnant and pregnant women, respectively.

    In addition, on the Internet you can find a brochure of the company “Bouchara-Recordati Laboratories” (Laboratoires Bouchara-Recordati), containing the results of Terzhinan’s research by a number of scientists, including Novikova S.V., Levashova I.I., Logutova L.S., Leush S.S., Dzyubanchuk T.V., Dubossarskoy Z.M., Kohanevich E.V., Konoplyanko V.V. etc.

    The product was also studied by Kalugina L.V., Tatarchuk T.F., Shakalo I.N., German D.G., Kuznetsova A.V., Kalugina L.V., Lipova E.V., Khrzayan R.S. ., Kuznetsova A.N., Illarionova E.A., Iskra A.I., Belousov E.A., Belousova O.V., Petrenko S.Yu., Popkova S.M. Dobrovolskaya L.M., Chichul N.S. Therefore, it can be considered highly studied.

    Composition of Terzhinan

    The effectiveness of the drug is achieved thanks to its special composition, which includes three antibiotics at once. This applies to any form of drug release. More specifically, the drug contains the following four components:

    • Ternidazole (C7H12ClN3O3). This is an antibiotic of synthetic origin, which represents the group of nitroimidazoles. It is an imidazole derivative. Effective only when applied topically. Ternidazole successfully fights against various representatives of bacteria, in particular Gardnerella vaginalis, as well as protozoa.
    • Neomycin (C23H46N6O13). It is a complex antibacterial substance and aminoglycoside, which has a bactericidal effect. It was discovered back in 1949 in the laboratory of the Jewish-Ukrainian-American biochemist and inventor Selman Abraham Waksman. This antibiotic fights staphylococci, streptococci and other infections in a short time, while it is powerless in the fight against fungi.
    • Nystatin (C47H75NO17). It was discovered in 1950 by female chemists Rachel Fuller Brown and Elizabeth Lee Hazen. It is also an antibiotic that fights fungi. It is the nystatin drug that is responsible for the treatment of genital candidiasis. It refers directly to polyene antibiotics, which means that nystatin is able to slightly increase the overall permeability of those cells that are harmful.
    • Prednisolone (C21H28O5). This substance is an analogue of hydrocortisone. It was discovered in the mid-fifties of the last century during chemical experiments with Corynebacterium simplex (removal of the acetyl group). It is an effective hormone that is directly responsible for reducing inflammation when used topically. In addition, prednisolone also has an antiallergic function.

    Depending on the form of release of the medicine, it also has auxiliary components that give the product the form of a tablet/suppository.

    Thanks to this composition, the cure for a particular disease occurs quite quickly. In this case, the integrity of the vaginal mucosa does not become compromised, as does the pH.

    Features of application

    Terzhinan is contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy, and its use is also prohibited for people under 16 years of age. You should stop having sex completely while using this drug. The main reason for this need is the possibility of destruction of the condom under the influence of one of the components of the drug (nystatin).

    Diseases such as vaginitis and trichomoniasis require simultaneous treatment not only for women, but also for men. The fact is that if one of the partners does not undergo the necessary course of treatment, then the other will definitely become infected again.

    One of the possible side effects of the drug is dizziness. It is for this reason that it should not be used by those persons whose work is directly related to the management of motor vehicles or other machinery.

    Patients who have other chronic diseases should carefully monitor their health during treatment with Terzhinan. The presence of this kind of disease requires quite frequent passing of the necessary tests and special studies. This applies to the following diseases:

    • High blood pressure;
    • Tuberculosis;
    • Osteoporosis;
    • Diabetes mellitus of any type;
    • Heart or liver failure;
    • Epilepsy;
    • Myopathy;
    • Glaucoma.

    The combined drug "Terzhinan" has been used in the treatment of vaginosis and other pathologies of the vagina for decades. Its effectiveness and safety have been proven in clinical studies, and numerous reviews indicate its good tolerability. And the benefits of the drug can be judged from the instructions for use of Terzhinan.

    Inflammatory diseases of the female genital area pose a serious threat to a woman’s health, affect her fertility, and cause psychological imbalance. Vaginal pathologies caused by pathogenic microorganisms and opportunistic flora are especially often recorded in gynecological practice.

    What are the advantages of the drug

    Various inflammatory pathologies of the vagina quite often have a polyetiological nature, that is, their appearance is provoked by several pathogens at once. For the treatment of such pathologies, many pharmacological drugs have been developed, differing in their spectrum and mechanism of action. However, none of them can be considered a universal remedy.

    Quite often, medications that have a positive effect in one pathology promote the growth of other microorganisms. Thus, the use of bacterial agents provokes the growth of a fungal infection, leading to the appearance of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Also, some drugs can stop the restoration of the number of vaginal lactobacilli. This effect negatively affects the results of the therapy and can cause the process to become chronic.

    Complications in the form of disturbances in the vaginal microflora are especially often caused by systemic pharmacological agents. That is why most gynecologists recommend using medications that affect the pathological focus only locally. This is exactly how Terzhinan is used, which is its great advantage over systemic antibiotics.

    Compound

    "Terzhinan" is a combination drug that contains both antibacterial and antifungal components. It is used only locally, and its main active ingredients are practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation.

    The composition of the drug includes:

    • ternidazole - a medicinal substance that has a detrimental effect on Trichomonas and also has a bactericidal effect on anaerobic bacteria, so the drug is effective against gardnerellosis;
    • neomycin - an antibacterial pharmaceutical that acts against gram-negative and gram-positive coccal flora;
    • nystatin - antifungal antibiotic effective against candidal infections;
    • prednisolone - a glucocorticoid that has an anti-inflammatory effect.

    Thus, “Terzhinan” immediately affects all links in the pathogenesis of the disease and acts on a wide range of microorganisms. The use of Terzhinan in gynecology allows achieving the following therapeutic effects:

    • antibacterial;
    • antifungal;
    • antiprotozoal;
    • eliminate inflammation;
    • normalization of vaginal pH;
    • regeneration of the vaginal mucosa.

    The pharmaceutical preparation is produced in the form of small suppositories. Such suppositories are administered only vaginally. The drug contains, in addition to the main active ingredients, lactose, magnesium and silicon compounds, and starch.

    In what cases is it indicated?

    Indications for the use of Terzhinan suppositories are infections caused by protozoa, anaerobic and candida infections, as well as gram-negative and gram-positive flora. Terzhinan suppositories are prescribed to women for the following diseases:

    • trichomonas infection;
    • bacterial vaginosis (vaginitis);
    • vaginal thrush;
    • inflammation of the cervix (colpitis, cervicitis) and vagina caused by mixed flora.

    Terzhinan is also included in a combined treatment regimen for certain urinary tract diseases (recurrent cystitis, pyelonephritis). It can be used together with other antibiotics in the fight against staphylococci, ureaplasma or mycoplasma, and other sexually transmitted infections. It is included in the complex therapy of endometriosis and ovarian cysts.

    In addition, Terzhinan can be used as a prophylaxis against bacterial infections (endometritis, adnexitis). This is necessary before performing gynecological operations or interventions for cervical erosion (hysteroscopy, diathermocoagulation, etc.). It is allowed to use the drug before childbirth for prophylactic purposes - to reduce the risk of bacterial complications.

    "Terzhinan": instructions for use

    Terzhinan can only be used topically. It is inserted into the vagina one vaginal suppository at a time. During menstruation, treatment is not interrupted, but Terzhinan suppositories are continued according to the regimen prescribed by the doctor.

    Vaginal suppositories can be administered at any time of the day, however, it is best to carry out the procedure in the evening just before bed. The procedure includes four points.

    1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
    2. Remove the vaginal tablet from the package and moisten it slightly with water. (Dip into water for half a minute).
    3. Lie on your back and carefully insert the tablet deep into the vagina.
    4. After the procedure, you should definitely lie down for 15 minutes.

    In the morning after the evening procedure of administering Terzhinan, a woman may have a small amount of yellowish discharge. This is not a pathology and is associated with the release of drug residues. After completion of treatment, this phenomenon will disappear on its own.

    If a woman administers the medicine during the day, such discharge appears 30-60 minutes after the procedure. In this case, it is advisable to additionally use sanitary pads. In addition, it should be borne in mind that with daily administration of the drug, most of it will flow out under the influence of gravity, which will affect the results of treatment. Purulent or bloody discharge after Terzhinan indicates the presence of gynecological pathology itself and is in no way related to the use of the medicine.

    Typically, the treatment regimen with Terzhinan tablets for inflammatory pathologies of the vagina involves their administration for at least ten days. If sexually transmitted infections (trichomoniasis) are being treated, it is imperative that your sexual partner also take the medicine. Otherwise, re-infection is possible.

    To treat candidiasis, your doctor may extend treatment with vaginal tablets for up to twenty days. If the drug is used as a prophylactic, it can be used for no more than six days.

    How is it transferred

    According to reviews from doctors and patients, the drug is very well tolerated. This is due to the fact that its components practically do not enter the systemic circulation, but act only locally. Occasionally, after using Terzhinan on the genitals, the following side effects are observed:

    • burning;
    • slight irritation;
    • allergy.

    During the entire period of use of Terzhinan in medical practice, no cases of its overdose were described. Reviews of Terzhinan suppositories for thrush indicate their fairly good effectiveness and the absence of a large number of side effects.

    Considering that this pharmaceutical contains antibiotics, gynecologists, after using it, recommend a course of probiotic medications to restore the flora. To do this, you can use vaginal suppositories, for example, Vagisan. You can also take oral probiotics containing lactobacilli and bifidobacteria.

    Contraindications

    A contraindication for the use of Terzhinan is individual intolerance to the components in its composition. You should not drink alcohol while taking this drug.

    Where to buy and what analogues are there

    "Terzhinan" is sold in pharmacies without a doctor's prescription. However, it is better to coordinate its use with a gynecologist; it may be necessary to prescribe other medications. The cost of one package of tablets ranges from 360-480 rubles. (Data as of November 2017). The price depends on the number of tablets (six or ten), the trade markup in a particular pharmacy chain.

    There are no exact analogues of Terzhinan on the domestic pharmaceutical market. If it is not available in the pharmacy, you should consult a doctor who can recommend other medications with a similar effect. However, in this case, it may be necessary to use several medications at once.

    The following drugs have a similar effect to Terzhinan:

    • "Vagisept";
    • "Clomegel";
    • "Metromicon-Neo".

    Thus, “Terzhinan” is an original pharmaceutical product that combines several medicinal substances with multidirectional effects. That is why it acts comprehensively, on several types of bacteria at once. This ensures the high effectiveness of this drug with a relatively low incidence of side effects.
