There are many ways to stew cabbage, with vegetables, mushrooms, chicken and meat. Today we will stew it with homemade minced meat (beef + pork 50 to 50). It cooks quickly and is eaten even faster.

Chop the cabbage into thin small pieces.

Bring a pot of water to a boil, add cabbage and salt. Cook for 10 minutes. Then drain the cabbage in a colander.

Finely chop the onion.

Grate the carrots on a fine grater.

Cut the tomatoes into slices. Unfortunately, I didn't have regular tomatoes, so I used cherry tomatoes.

How to cook stewed cabbage with minced meat and rice:

1. To prepare the dish, you need to wash and peel the onions. Cut it into small cubes.


2. Peel the carrots and rinse under running water. Grate the carrots on a coarse grater. Carrots can be chopped into strips without a grater, but, in my opinion, grated carrots give more sweetness to the dish and carrot fragments are not as brightly visible in the finished dish. For example, in Lahanorizo, carrots are cut into half rings.


3. Fry the onion in vegetable oil. When it's barely browned, add the carrots. Simmer everything together for 5-7 minutes.


4. Add minced meat to the fried vegetables. Minced meat can be anything. I took pork (cooked at home), but you can use mixed minced meat or minced poultry.


5. Mix minced meat with vegetables and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring. If necessary, if the minced meat is dry, add 0.5 cups of drinking hot water to the pan.


6. When the minced meat changes color and simmers for about 10 minutes, add shredded white cabbage to the pan.


7. Mix cabbage with minced meat. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. It is better to cover the pan with a lid. Under the influence of steam, the cabbage will fall off and decrease in volume. You can add a little water. This will speed up the stewing process. Add a glass of washed rice. The rice must be washed very well in several waters to remove the stickiness of the rice. Mix rice with cabbage. Cover with a lid and let simmer for 5-7 minutes.


8.Pour tomato juice into the pan. Stir and simmer for 10-15 minutes.

The cabbage stewing time will vary depending on its variety and freshness. Tender young cabbage takes literally 20 minutes to cook, but tough “winter” varieties will have to be stewed for 30–40 minutes.

When the dish is almost ready, that is, the cabbage will be soft, but not boiled, you need to add the final ingredients: 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, 4 pinches of pepper mixture and bay leaf. Mix everything thoroughly.
