Animal psychology courses. Applied zoopsychology (in hippology, cynology). Distance learning. Where can a zoopsychologist work?

Everything you wanted to know about dogs.

15 years of my experience + the experience and knowledge of dozens of specialists from different fields (from veterinary medicine to human psychology) + hundreds of scientific papers - in one course.

Yes, I have my own methodology and point of view, but during the course I try to show the variety of approaches to studying, training and correcting dog behavior. After all, in order to correct your dog or help others, you need to learn to think freely, and not repeat rote facts or someone else’s opinion.

This course is designed to be interactive, with the ability to communicate with the lecturer. Because recording a lecture will not teach you to think, look for answers to questions on your own, improvise and believe in yourself.

Yulia Bespyatykh

(Belarus)

“Yulia Islamova’s course in Applied Animal Psychology is very cool. This is not a scheme, not a dogma, not a truism. It is for seeking people who love to learn and think, to look for answers, and not receive them on a silver platter.
Yulia is an amazing person, a very talented teacher and, of course, a professional in her field. And this is especially pleasant after several seminars and webinars I attended by other dog handlers, after which, to be honest, I wanted to say “give me my money back!”

Marina Zasim

(Russia, Miass)

"After this course, like after reading a good book, you will never be the same again. At the same time, you will look at yourself, your dog, your family and your environment. You will have a social circle in a warm, friendly fb group, you will be happy and sad , laugh until you cry and cry.

In addition to everything that was written above, I received great inspiration, new goals in life, an understanding of where to move and why it is necessary."

DO YOU NEED THIS COURSE?

The web course on applied animal psychology is designed for anyone who wants to learn, understand and know more about dogs.

These are not only people who want to work in the field of training and behavior correction. These are ordinary dog owners who lack the knowledge to correct their dog's behavior problems. These are also those who simply love dogs and love to learn.

The only requirement I want to put forward is the understanding that I do not give knowledge on a silver platter. I'm a teacher. I teach you to think. And I help you understand.

Why don’t I just want to give ready-made knowledge? Because knowledge without understanding, awareness and logic is worthless. But logic, understanding and awareness cannot be transferred from Teacher to student.

And one more thing. I invite only those who are confident that they are ready to rack their brains, feel like an idiot, make mistakes and curse me and my meticulousness with the last words. I honestly warn you - it won’t be easy for those who study with me))

If you are ready, I'm glad. If not, but you have acquaintances/friends who would like to, tell them about this opportunity.

WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?

The course is divided into 4 interconnected parts:

1. Building a general idea of the dog(anatomy, physiology, first aid, thinking, sociality, instincts, needs and their implementation, characteristics of the psyche and hormonal system, periods of growing up, dog language, breed characteristics, etc.)

This part is necessary to understand the norms of dog behavior, to understand the logic by which this species lives, in order to learn to see the connection between anatomy, physiology, mental processes and behavior, because they are interconnected and influence each other constantly and in everything.

2. Education and training(methods of training and training systems, possibilities of influencing a dog, features of the dog’s perception of people’s behavior, features of training dogs of different ages/breeds/temperament/character, raising a puppy and an adult dog, etc.)

This part is necessary in order to connect together all the knowledge gained in the first part and learn to understand specific living dogs, as well as understand how, why and what the dog reacts to and how to use it in education and training. Including training is considered as an integral part of behavior correction.

3. Behavior correction and psychocorrection(stress, dog habits, fears, aggression, fear of loneliness, uncleanliness, neuroses, neurotic conditions and other behavioral problems - what it is, what to do about it, why and how it happens, methods of treatment, etc.)

This part is the most difficult, it is entirely devoted to various deviations from the norm of dog behavior, the causes of these deviations, the ability to see, understand and diagnose problems, as well as independently select possible correction options.

4. About people (mistakes of owners and their consequences, the influence of attitude towards a dog on its character, how to work with people of different types, the interdependence of mental problems of owners and behavioral problems of dogs, human psychology and its use when working with owners and dogs, etc.) d.)

This part is especially interesting, since a dog and a person live side by side in a kind of symbiosis, and it is necessary to learn to understand yourself, your body language, in order to learn how to properly contact an individual of another species. And also learning to interact with dog owners who need help - this is the most difficult part of being a behavior corrector. It is not enough to be able to understand dogs well, because every dog is inextricably linked with its owner and it is impossible to correct their relationship by approaching only from the dog’s side.

During the course there will be not only training, but also the opportunity to test your strength on test tasks. After each part there is a control lecture, where you can sort out all the questions that have arisen and test your knowledge.

Guided practice is free!

If you live in Moscow or near it, the practice is open all year round.

Elena Belousova

(USA)

“It was a most interesting adventure and much-needed knowledge for minimal money, because the amount of material received is priceless.
For the first time in 4 years of living in the USA, I regretted that I was not in Russia and could not have real practice on Yulia’s site in an accessible manner. But even like this, at a distance, we succeeded. It worked!

The main task of a trainer or dog handler is to teach the dog the necessary skills and execution of commands, develop obedience, and improve physical fitness. Unlike a dog trainer, a zoopsychologist can also teach commands, but his ultimate goal is to build the correct behavioral system in a pet based on various approaches and methods. An animal psychologist evaluates the tasks and capabilities set by the owner with each animal and, based on this, develops a behavior modification program.

I chose the profession of an animal psychologist in order to constantly develop. Daily practice allows you to confirm certain theoretical knowledge experimentally, experiment, and develop your own methods. The work of an animal psychologist can hardly be called routine: each case is unique, and at the same time there are general patterns that are interesting to identify and study in practice.

Animal psychology is widespread in the West, but not here. Where is this taught?

Indeed, in the West our profession is not only popular, but also very much in demand in society. In our country, you can become a bachelor of zoopsychology by studying the subject as a branch of psychology or biology (M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University and others). Then you can go to master's and graduate school.

There are short-term courses that provide basic knowledge of animal psychology, and I recommend that anyone who is planning to have a pet or is already experiencing difficulties with its behavior attend such courses and apply the knowledge gained in order to communicate comfortably with their pet. Methods are constantly being improved, so it is worth reading publications on animal psychology yourself, although many have not yet been translated into Russian.

What do you do for work?

The everyday life of a zoopsychologist is dynamic, and every day is different from the previous one. Every day I help owners and their pets establish contact with each other, look for the causes of deviations in the animal’s behavior, sources of stress that need to be eliminated, tell and show what and how to do in order to make living together bring pleasure and joy. In addition to personal meetings with owners, I provide consultations over the phone on various issues that arise in the process of working on “homework.”

Is it true that a zoopsychologist can not only correct an animal’s behavior, help owners with its adaptation to the family, cope with complex and problematic cases, but also tell them which animal to choose in order to be psychologically compatible with it?

This is true. Often, when getting a pet, not everyone understands the consequences of responsibility for those they have tamed. Both the psychological and physiological compatibility of the owner and the pet are important; each breed of dog and cat has its own character, which must be taken into account when choosing a new family member. Everyone has their own habits and characteristics, and the appearance of a pet should not radically change their lifestyle. Unless, of course, the future owner himself sets such a goal. I am sure that if people more often sought advice from a zoopsychologist before choosing a kitten or puppy, the number of homeless and abandoned animals in our country would be significantly reduced.

What personal qualities should an animal psychologist have? To whom is the profession contraindicated?

The main quality is a combination of sensitivity and empathy with strength of character. Sometimes it is very difficult for us to prove to owners that the proposed method of communicating with a pet is effective, and it is worth following all the instructions from beginning to end in order to achieve the desired effect. The power of persuasion, individual approach, flexibility and willingness to always come to the rescue are the key characteristics of a successful animal psychologist. This profession is categorically contraindicated for people who do not like animals, do not know how to find contact with them, and are prone to aggression.

Dachshund - winner of the Vice World Winner title at the World dog show in Moscow on June 23-26, 2016

What difficulties do you face? Are there any unpleasant moments in this seemingly sweet profession?

The most difficult thing in our profession is working with people, not... Sometimes owners think that it is the animal that is the source of unpleasant situations, but they themselves are not ready or have great difficulty admitting their own mistakes and begin to work on themselves. We often hear unflattering personal reviews addressed to us, but this should not affect the results of our work and disturb our emotional peace. When all options have already been tried, and the owner is not ready to meet halfway, the animal psychologist has the right to refuse further communication. Sometimes this acts as a catalyst, and after a certain time the owner himself returns with a proposal to “try everything again.”

What are the advantages of the profession? What would you agree to work for, even for free?

Communication with owners and pets in itself is very exciting and interesting, and when it becomes a profession, it is a unique opportunity to participate in lifelong research. However, I take the position that any work should be paid, since this work requires full emotional investment, and the costs should be rewarded.

Speaking of money... How in demand are the services of a zoopsychologist? Where should a beginner specialist go?

The services of an animal psychologist are not as in demand in our country as in the West. This is mainly a private practice, recommendations that are passed from hand to hand when the results of the work attract new clients. Word of mouth helps you find a professional dog trainer and handler. At the beginning of your journey, it is difficult to prove your competence, and here you need to show strength of character and not stop there. You can try to join a strong team of professionals to gain experience with minimal risks to your own reputation, which is often easier than sailing on your own. It all depends on the situation and the person himself, but the main thing is that it leads to professional fulfillment.

What misconceptions about the profession of an animal psychologist have you encountered?

The most important misconception is that people do not fully understand the essence of the profession, its goals and meaning. Dog handlers in our country are familiar to society; they are a traditional profession, but an animal psychologist is a new and incomprehensible phenomenon. Many owners believe that they know everything about the behavior of their ward, and no animal psychologist will tell them anything new. In this situation, the owner gets used to saying over and over again: “We don’t get along,” “He’s so strange,” or “It’s better not to leave your shoes there, you’re taking a risk,” and so on. These phrases justify the owner, shifting responsibility to the pet. Our task is to eradicate these stereotypes, to show that the joint work of “owner - zoopsychologist - pet” can prevent or save owners from many problems and ensure easy coexistence based on mutual understanding.

What should those who are planning to develop in this profession pay attention to? What inspires or provides valuable experience?

All beginners should be patient - in moments of complete despair, gather their will into a fist and move on. Today, in the era of digital technologies, the Internet and social networks, there is a unique opportunity to communicate with colleagues even over long distances, exchange experiences on specialized platforms, argue on professional topics and find answers to insoluble questions, get information about new courses, advanced training, and proprietary seminars. , books, information portals.

Success will come to those who do hard, painstaking work every day. It would be nice to have a mentor who will pass on knowledge and many years of experience and inspire. I was very lucky in this. There is nothing better than a clear example!

Animal psychologist is a psychologist specializing in animal behavior. The profession is suitable for those who are interested in biology and psychology (see choosing a profession based on interest in school subjects).

One of the stars of animal psychology is an Austrian scientist Konrad Lorenz(1903-1989).

Animal psychologist, one of the founders of ethology, laureate (together with K. Frisch and N. Tinbergen) of the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for research into individual and group behavior of animals.

Lorenz is the creator of the theory of imprinting - imprinting the distinctive features of objects in the memory of animals. Lorenz discovered imprinting while working with greylag geese. He noticed that in the first hours after birth, goslings remember moving objects that are nearby and transfer their orientation to their parents to them. In other words, they mistake the first object they come across for a mother goose.

Lorenz wrote wonderful popular science books: “The Ring of King Solomon”, “A Man Finds a Friend”, “The Year of the Gray Goose”.

They are a must-read for anyone who dreams of becoming an animal psychologist.

Among the scientific works: “Evolution and modification of behavior”, “Behavior of animals and humans”, “Behind the mirror. Study of the natural history of human knowledge”, etc.

Features of the profession

Animal psychologists should not be confused with dog handlers, felinologists, trainers and other specialists who know how to manage animal behavior.

Animal psychology is a branch of psychology.

Animal psychology is associated with ethology (from the Greek éthos - character), the science of the behavior of various species of animals in natural conditions.

However, animal psychology is primarily interested not in behavior as such, but in mental processes. Even representatives of the same species or breed, and even from the same brood, behave differently. Experienced cat and dog owners will confirm this.

Animal psychologists are interested in both wild and domestic animals, whose psyches have great differences. After all, a pet is part of the human family. Even his ideas about getting food are completely different from those of his wild relative. For example, most domestic dogs and cats prefer to forage for food in the refrigerator rather than by hunting. And a person is perceived as a member of his pack.

Animal psychologists also study anomalies in animal behavior (fears, aggressiveness, inexplicable stubbornness, etc.). A good specialist can find out the reason and explain to the owner how to fix the problem. Often strange behavior is a manifestation of nervous system disorders. And sometimes - a reaction to some situation that worries the dog. The dog itself, of course, cannot explain to the owner the essence of the problems. Or rather, she makes him understand, but the owner does not understand. That's why we need a zoopsychologist.

Animal psychologists are also needed if problems occur with farm animals. For example, the milk yield of cows on a farm suddenly decreases. A specialist can investigate the situation and find out the cause.

Workplace

Animal psychologists work in research institutes, consult in canine centers, and privately.

Where do they teach

Animal psychology is studied in psychology departments. And also at the Agricultural Academy. Timiryazev and other universities.

An animal psychologist is a specialist who uses various methods in teaching and solving behavioral problems: training, psychological, ethological, veterinary. Thanks to this, it is possible to solve the problem itself, and not relieve the symptoms, and the effect in this case is permanent.

When raising and training a dog, its rights are taken into account and its comfortable living is established. And if the dog feels good, then it will obey your commands willingly and happily! And the need for unwanted behavior will also disappear.

Animal psychologist in Moscow(Galina Vlasova) will conduct training in the following courses:

Advantages of animal consultation at the Gilda school:

Works at our school professional certified zoopsychologist Galina>>. She will solve problems with your dog in just one or two visits to you! Usually only one such visit is required. In total, this turns out to be much cheaper than taking a behavior correction course consisting of at least 10 lessons. After visiting you, the zoopsychologist guarantees free support and accompaniment for 3 weeks from the meeting in any of the ways convenient for you: telephone, mail, Skype.

A special feature of our animal psychologist is the fact that after her unique training in interacting with a dog, the possibility of new problems and conflicts arising is reduced to almost zero. The result will remain with you even after the specialist leaves (if you follow all the recommendations). Galina works using a unique proprietary method that has no analogues yet. Her experience in cynology is more than 25 years.
