Step by step instructions with photographs, detailed explanations production process and master classes will help you quickly and easily create an original cat house. Choose the option that fits perfectly into your interior.

Set for cats with scratching posts, a bed and a hanging toy

For games, sleep and relaxation, as well as for sharpening claws, you can build a cozy cat house with your own hands, which will not only decorate the room, but also bring benefits. This ideal complex for a cat will not take up much space. A spacious house is suitable for a large fluffy or pregnant cat. A vertical scratching post, a soft bed and a dangling toy will be great entertainment for adult animals. A cozy house and an inclined scratching post will be a favorite place for curious little kittens.

Materials required for the base of the structure and the house:

  • Fibreboard (hardboard) 40x122 cm (for the base);
  • Chipboard 44x61 cm (for the roof of the house);
  • Chipboard 55x44cm (for walls);
  • 7 slats 3x4x37 cm (spacers for walls);
  • pipe with a diameter of 11 mm, length 60 cm;
  • 2 bars (for pipe stability);

For the bed:

  • Chipboard 44x30 cm;
  • Fibreboard 44x30 cm;
  • foam rubber measuring 44x30 cm;

For scratching posts:

  • rope made of cotton materials or jute, about 110 mm thick, 15 m (for a vertical scratching post);
  • rope or fabric (for an inclined scratching post);
  • toy;
  • board 18x41 cm;

Additional materials and tools:

  • fabric or fur for covering;
  • saw, hand or electric jigsaw;
  • drill, screwdriver;
  • knife, scissors, sandpaper;
  • stapler for furniture, hot glue gun;
  • tape measure, pencil, chalk, marker.

The process of making a cat house with your own hands

The first step is to cut out chipboard and fibreboard from existing materials rectangles: for the base of the house, walls and beds. Required dimensions are listed above, but you can independently determine the size that suits you and is comfortable for your pet. On both rectangles for the walls of the house you need to draw circle from radii of about 27 cm. The most convenient way to do this is with a compass, but not from the center of the rectangle, but just below. You can use a marker if you attach a rope to it and hold it in the center of the future truncated circle.

One wall of the house will be solid, and on the second wall you need to draw circle-holes for entrance and several windows. It's original to make them look like a cat's footprint. We will make the large circle 22 cm in diameter, and the small ones 5.5 cm.

DIY cat house step by step instructions Photo

Small side circles should be placed at a symmetrical distance from great circle(equal to 17.5 cm). And the central small circle should be placed a little further.

The next step in building a cat house with your own hands will be sawing out. Carefully, using a drill, jigsaw or other suitable tools, you need to cut out alternately small and large circles.

Next, we combine both walls of the future house and mark the places where we plan to fasten them with slats. In our example, these are 7 points. They are most conveniently made by drilling through them so that the marks are visible on both panels.

At all marked points we drill holes for self-tapping screws. This is where the slats will be attached.

Preparing the slats: plan, smooth the edges, remove roughness. For stability, the bottom slats can be made thicker.

We fasten both parts at seven points using prepared slats and self-tapping screws.

Let's prepare wall fabric house. It should be slightly larger than the walls themselves. For the safety and comfort of the cat, it is better to choose fabrics with cut pile so that the animal does not get caught in the claws. You can use faux fur or other materials.

Pieces of fabric using a hot glue gun glue it to preparing the house. It is best to use glue without strong odor, the cat probably won't like it.

On front side house, cut holes in the fabric in the right places, bend it and carefully secure it along the edges.

We place and glue on the base for the complex (in the place where the house will stand) foam rubber. Its size should correspond to the distance between the two side bottom slats of the house. This will be the first bed, next to it we mark with a circle the place for the vertical pipe.

We completely cover the entire base of the structure. cloth.

To keep the fabric firmly in place, it is better to secure it with staples using a furniture stapler. If there is fabric on the sides that begins to fray, it needs to be wrapped. Next, we secure the structure on top using a sheet of fiberboard.

Let's prepare roof house. We mark the allowances on the fabric with chalk and paste it over a sheet of fiberboard.

We take two narrow pieces of fabric and glue them to the inside of the two lower ribs. If you are using colored fabrics, you need to use the base color here.

Connecting house with foundation. At this stage, it is important to choose self-tapping screws of the optimal length. They should hold the house firmly, but not protrude beyond the base.

We hide the slats under the fabric.

We place the fiberboard rectangle on the roof of the house and fix it with a furniture stapler.

Using small scissors, we hide the staples in the fabric.

We ennoble inner part house. Glue the fabric of the corresponding color.

The DIY cat house is almost ready. There are only parts left: scratching posts and a bed.

Let's prepare pipe made of cardboard, plastic or wood and two bars of slightly smaller diameter. This guarantees the stability of the structure. In our example, a plastic pipe and wooden blocks are used.

We firmly insert and secure the bars in the pipe; this can be done with glue or self-tapping screws (depending on the materials used).

From rectangular sheets of chipboard and fiberboard we cut out identical semicircular parts for beds.

We string a piece of fiberboard onto a pipe, having previously made a hole. This part will cover the glued fabric underneath.

On the underside of the bed we prepare holes for self-tapping screws. We connect the bench and the block fixed in the pipe.

Turn the house horizontally. We place the pipe parallel to the floor, place any objects under it to determine a suitable place to attach the scratching post.

We make marks on the bottom of the base, make holes for the screws, and screw the pipe. In our version, we made four holes for better fastening.

The very bottom of the pipe can be cover with cloth. Cats usually sharpen their claws by extending their paws upward.

We cut the foam rubber to the required size and glue it to the bed.

Take a rope and attach it to one end toy, and we fix the other side with a furniture stapler on the side to the base of the bed.

We completely cover the top of the bed with fabric, making allowances for bending it. We glue the fiberboard part so as to beautifully hide the edges of the fabric.

We deceive the pipe with a rope, periodically securing it with glue.

Cooking inclined scratching post. Bottom part we trim it so that it touches the base. Cover both ends of the board with fabric.

The DIY cat house is almost ready. We wrap the central part of the inclined scratching post, on which the cat can sharpen its claws, with rope or cloth. We place the board on the base of the complex and secure it to one of the slats between the walls of the house.

Using our master class, you can independently complement and complicate the design, increasing its size and number of components.

Scheme of a cat house in the form of a castle

Standard playgrounds for cats usually take up a lot of space in the apartment. It is not always possible to allocate an area to install such a structure at home. But if the desire to make your pet happy haunts you, then we suggest doinglean-to housefor a cat with your own hands. And not just a house, but a whole castle! It is convenient to place it anywhere on the wall. You can make any number of towers and connect them together with ladders.

If there are small children in the house or there is a dog in addition to the cat, then such a hanging complex with a scratching post will be the mustachioed purr’s favorite place. There the cat can sleep peacefully without being disturbed.

Materials required for the construction of towers:

In addition, you will need construction tools, such as a saw, a hand or electric jigsaw, a drill, a screwdriver or screwdriver, a furniture stapler, a stationery knife or scissors, a pencil (marker) and a tape measure.

Planning and preparation stage

In our example, the dimensions of the turrets have a base of 34x34 cm, a wall height of 45.5 cm, the upper tier begins at a height of 30 cm from the lower base of the wall. Therefore, to build the turrets we will need: a base, a side wall (size 34x44 cm), two small side walls (size 30.5x44), a shelf 30.5x30.5 cm, two slats 5.5x44 cm, two slats 5.5x23 cm. The chipboard sheet is about 1.5 cm thick.

To make a cat house beautiful, comfortable and functional, you need to think about the size of the turrets. They should look harmonious in the room and be high enough for the cat to stretch and move around inside. If the cat's play structure will include two-tier towers, then the size of the upper base should allow the cat to curl up in a ball and feel safe due to sides.

DIY cat house step by step instructions

From chipboard sheet cut out 9 rectangular parts according to the previously indicated dimensions.

Let's draw outlines of the tower: battlements, three pieces, 6.5 cm high and recesses.

We take a large side wall, divide its side into 5 equal segments and put marks. (A side is 34 cm, divide it by 5, we get 6.8 cm). We take smaller side walls, place them on top of the first wall, and place thin side slats at the edges. Then we transfer the marks from the bottom wall to smaller walls. This is necessary to ensure that all the teeth are the same size.

We transfer the marks from the ends of the wall to its horizontal line, draw a line of 6.5 cm. By connecting the dots, we get a ready-made drawing of the teeth.

Carefully along the lines cut out the teeth jigsaw

Next we do it at the tower entrance, its width will be 20 cm, height 25 cm. We measure the same distance from the center up and down, mark with dots required sizes. Can be rounded if desired top line. In this case, you can set aside a segment of 12.5 cm from it. Draw an arc.

Let's do jigsaw entrance according to the drawing.

We connect the side wall with the front wall with self-tapping screws.

We attach the second side wall in a similar way. For convenience, you can put between them shelf.

We turn the tower over and add a base, which is also secured with self-tapping screws.

At a height of 30 cm from the base, we make marks, recesses for screws and attach the shelf.

We fix two side horizontal and two vertical slats on the side, covering the sections of the walls.

Cutting off a piece fabrics a little more height and the width of the tower, try it on and adjust the size.

We secure the fabric with glue or a furniture stapler, carefully shaping and folding the edges. In the area of the teeth, leave about 1.5 cm for the hem. It is important that the glue does not have a strong, repulsive odor.

Using a narrow long piece of fabric (about 6.5 cm high) we glue the teeth on the inside. Carefully seal the ends.

For side entrances We prepare the fabric with a reserve, try it on and cut it, then glue it.

We formalize ends at the entrance, and finally we fix another piece of fabric from the bottom of the tower.

We select foam rubber parts for the beds, wrap them with fabric on the top side, fasten them with glue.

We fix the lower part of the foam bed with glue to the shelf, paying special attention to the edges.

We put fasteners on the back of the tower and hang it on the wall. We add at will scratching post ladder, which can be created similarly to the first method by wrapping a rope around a board or pipe.

To make it convenient for a cat to climb into its house and crawl along the turrets, you need to come up with bridges between the towers. This could be a piece of wood covered with fabric. Using both a scratching post and bridges in the design, it is important that there is a gap for the cat against the wall.

This is how easy it is to make an unusual cat house with your own hands. If desired, you can build several towers of different sizes, hang them near the floor or high near the ceiling. If you place the structure around the entire perimeter of the house, then it is better to make entrances to the turrets on three sides.

DIY entertainment complex for cats

Another option to allocate a place for your pet is to create an interior detail in your home that is interesting for the cat and unusual for you. WITH entertainment corner your pet will always be busy, even in your absence. We will show you how to make a three-tier complex for a cat.

Required tools:

  • two tables of different sizes on low legs;
  • rope, fabric or fur;
  • stapler, glue;
  • toys and decorative items;
  • screw and screws;
  • dye.

Step-by-step instructions for an entertaining corner for your pet

The first step will be table preparation. They should be disassembled, legs, shelves (if any), tabletops should be unscrewed to decorate and improve. In our case, we use a fur piece - a large piece of fur. We want to use it to completely cover the shelf from the table. To fix the fur should be folded down.

We also decorate a small tabletop using this method, securing the fur underneath with a stapler.

Table legs make great scratching posts, you just have to wrap them with tight ropes. You can wrap all the legs, or only part of them. To secure the rope during the winding process, you can fasten it with staples.

We suggest painting the remaining legs and other parts of the tables a different color with safe paint.

After the paint has dried, you can assemble all the parts.

We will place our smaller table on a large table, taking into account where the scratching posts are facing, so that it is convenient for the cat to use them. The top table can be glued, secured with screws or self-tapping screws.

The final touch to decorating a cat bed with your own hands is to add toys and entertainment accessories. These could be hanging toys on ropes, a glued pot with a flower, or a piece of carpet for claws. Fantasy is limitless.

Do-it-yourself multi-story cat house

Building a multi-storey complex for a cat will require a little more time and patience, but the beauty that results will delight the little resident of the house and its builder. In such a complex you can sleep, pamper yourself, and sharpen your claws.

To make such a complex you will need:

  • chipboards;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • fabric and rope;
  • tape measure, pencil, scissors;
  • entrance/window templates;
  • glue;
  • pipes made of plastic or cardboard;
  • self-tapping screws, door hinges, screws, corners.

Do-it-yourself multifunctional six-level cat house step-by-step instructions

The very first step is to prepare base complex, house And lower compartment with an entrance that can be of any shape (circle, oval, rectangle).

We chose a figurine in the form of a cat's head, traced it on a sheet of chipboard, and then cut it out jigsaw

We assemble five rectangles of any size box house, in our version its length is 80 cm, height 30 cm, width 55 cm. The main thing is that the cat is comfortable.

We hang it on the remaining side part loops for the future door.

We attach the door to the house on screws.

We will have pipes between the floors, so we attach furniture corners to their base, with the help of which it is easy to attach the pipe to the base.

Thus, using pipes and chipboard panels, you can build several floors of different shapes and sizes. At the same time, holes should be left in them for the cat. The layout of the cat house depends on your imagination.

From the side or between levels, a multi-storey cat house can be attached stairs. You can simply make it from ordinary boards. The ladder can be placed at an angle by turning the legs from below at an angle of 45 degrees. This element can be attached to the house using furniture corners.

On the top of the house a house with gable roof. Its base will rest on several pipes, it is better if they are symmetrically located for balance.

We cut out pieces of suitable size from chipboard boards, form them into a structure, and secure them with screws and furniture corners.

One side of the house or roof can be placed on hinges, not only for the cat's entertainment, but also for the convenience of opening and cleaning the home.

In our version, we made a house with a side entrance and a door on the roof.

The top floor (that is, the attic) can be located right under the ceiling or you can make a kind of step from it to the closet.

Using another pipe and a mini chipboard panel, we connect the cat complex to the top of the cabinet.

Decorative finishing

When completing the construction of a cat house with your own hands, it is important to decorate it beautifully and make it a beautiful interior accessory.

We wrap all the pipes with rope or rope, secure them at the bases and at the tops with glue.

Roofs, walls, side and internal sides paste over carpet

We measure each detail, make the necessary holes in the carpet, try it on and fix it.

It is convenient to use a furniture stapler at corners and in places that are difficult to reach for gluing.

If you wish, you can trim all the parts in one color or use several different ones. We painted the roof of the house in green.

Special attention should be given to corners, ends and joints. It is good to use a furniture strip at the ends in the area of the holes. It is smooth, bends easily and takes the desired shape.

The master class on building such a complex is very simple. Anyone can do it. Your cat will appreciate such a gift.

DIY soft bed for a cat

Cats love to sleep, they always look for the softest, calmest and most comfortable place in the house. Give your mustachioed beast his own place to sleep and relax. You can make a cat bed with your own hands in just a couple of hours. This method does not require male skills; there are no complex details in the master class.

Materials for making a bed:

You can choose any size and shape for the bed. This method is also suitable for making a dog bed.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a cat bed

Choosing a place Where the bed will be located affects its shape. You can place the future structure in a corner, on a window or under a table. We will make a classic oval shape. For ordinary cat A size of 40 or 50 cm in length is suitable.

An important step is choice of fabric. It should be pleasant, easy to clean and safe for your cat's claws. You can choose a color that matches the main shade in the interior.

We're drawing oval shape on a sheet of fiberboard. This can be done in two ways.

The first method is without using a compass. Draw a straight line and divide it in half with segments.

We fix the side points with push pins or pins, and put a thread on them, tied at both ends. Using a pencil, pull the thread left side to make a triangle. Let's put an end to it.

Using the same tension, draw a line around the buttons to get a nice oval.

Another way to get an oval shape is to draw it using compass.

We draw a segment, divide it into equal parts, put points A and B at the end of it. Using a compass, draw two circles with centers at the end of the segment, with a diameter up to points A and B, respectively.

Above the intersection of the circles we draw arcs from the top points of the circles to each other. We get an oval.

We transfer it to the fiberboard panel and cut out This shape has 2 identical figures.

We measure and design the sides. For this we take foam rubber. Its length is equal to the length of our oval (135 cm), and its width will be 10 cm.

From a piece foam rubber we form a side. We fold a piece of foam rubber along its entire length in half and secure it with glue.

Let's prepare textile, with which we will cover the foam rubber. The fabric should be a few cm wider in order to make it convenient to glue the structure to the bottom of the base of the bed. We chose a width of 14 cm.

Glue the foam side and a piece of fabric together.

We fix the resulting side to the bed, leaving a free edge of the fabric with outside.

We complete the semicircle by connecting the two ends of the side.

At the bottom of the bed we fasten the fabric from the side.

To hide this part of the structure, we cover it with a previously prepared fiberboard part.

We issue in the inside of the bed. Cut out the foam rubber to shape. We apply and try on the size, it should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the couch.

We wrap the foam rubber with fabric, making allowances. We fasten them from the bottom.

Apply glue to the remaining part of the foam rubber that is not covered with fabric and place the soft part in the center of the structure. You can do without glue, then the foam rubber should be completely wrapped in fabric and sewn up with thread.

A compact and soft place for the cat is ready!

Master class: house for a cat out of a box

One of the most favorite pastimes for cats is searching for secluded corners or containers where they can sit comfortably. Even the simplest small shoe boxes instantly attract the attention of cats. What a joy they will be to receive a house from a large cardboard box!

You can make a house for a cat from one large cardboard box (from under equipment) or from several small boxes. For this you will need:

  • scissors or stationery knife;
  • hot glue gun;
  • ruler or stencils (for windows);
  • self-adhesive paper, paint or fabric (for decoration);

On the walls of the box you need to draw and then cut out windows and entrances; they can be of any shape and size. For stability, it is important to reinforce the corners, bottom and side walls with tape.

To make the house look like a real one, it is better to make its roof gable. To do this, you need to work with the top of the box, consisting of 4 rectangular parts (a continuation of the walls). The two wide parts will become slopes, and the two narrower parts will become pediments (triangular parts of the walls). It is most convenient to secure the collapse of the house hot glue.

Using this method of building a house for a cat with your own hands, you can make one house or entire tunnels, if the territory allows. The structure can be painted or covered with colored paper or wallpaper on top. If desired, you can insulate it from the inside and outside with various materials: foam rubber, carpet or fabric, and add a pillow for softness.

From an old T-shirt

One of the most basic ways to make a cat house at home is to build it from wire and an ordinary men's T-shirt.

For this you will need:

  • cardboard or piece of plastic;
  • 2 metal hangers made of thin wire;
  • pliers;
  • T-shirt or other clothing with sleeves and collar;
  • pillow or foam rubber;
  • pins or glue.

Let's prepare house frame. Using pliers, we straighten out ordinary clothes hangers and install them on a cardboard base crosswise in the form of arcs. At the top, both wires need to be connected with tape. We will pay special attention to securing the arcs at all four points at the base. You can pierce the cardboard, bend the wire slightly on the back side and secure it with tape. You can glue fabric to the base, put foam rubber or a pillow for softness.

We put the T-shirt on the frame, stretch the fabric on top, fold it down and pin it. The T-shirt should be positioned so that the opening for the collar forms an entrance. If desired, it is easy to leave windows on the sides of the house from the sleeves or make additional holes.

Other ideas for creating houses for cats with your own hands

You can make original cat houses with your own hands from wicker basket. Two baskets will make a cozy bed in the shape of a pearl, and you can put a soft pillow on the bottom.

A house in the shape of a cat with sewn on ears, eyes, tail and a hole resembling a yawning mouth. It is better to sew such a house from dense fabric that holds its shape.

For a children's room or hallway, a cat house made from colored wooden cubes. You can make several inputs in the form geometric shapes and positively decorate the outside of the cubes.

A noticeable detail of the interior will be cat house -wigwam with shelves. You can assemble it from wooden or cardboard boards fastened horizontally and vertically, lay a soft blanket inside, and hang fabric instead of walls.

The easiest way to do wigwam for cat- connect several sticks in the form of a cone, fasten them well at the top and at the base. Then cover the house with fabric, make an entrance and windows.

You can make a cozy house for a cat with your own hands if you felt it or created it from fabric (carpet) mini round house. Then make a cutout and decorate it along the edge with a knitted scarf.

The cat will like it hanging fabric house in the shape of a cone with one or more inputs. The main thing is to make a soft bottom. This composition can be hung anywhere.

Decorate the apartment with a laconic home for a cat in the shape of an egg. Smooth and hard on the outside, but soft due to the bedding on the inside, the house and its owner will take center stage on a window or shelf.

Vertical house with scratching posts and a cylinder in the center very compact and functional. The cat will be able to hide inside or frivolously lie down on the top bed, watching what is happening around.

Cats are one of the most beloved pets that can most often be found in an apartment. In order for the pet to feel comfortable and cozy, the owners try to create all suitable conditions for it: they provide it with a tasty and balanced diet, buy it beautiful collars or clothes, regularly comb its fur, and take it to appointments with the veterinarian. But besides all this, the cat also needs its own space - a house, and not every owner installs one in his own living space.

This design is an essential element of the animal’s normal life; it can be purchased in a store or made from scrap materials. Detailed instructions, presented in this article, will help you make a beautiful and cozy cat house with your own hands.

  • cardboard structures;

To decide which house is right for your pet, observe its habits

  • mini beds and sofas;
  • built-in houses;
  • complex complexes with game elements.

Hammocks– the simplest and most convenient designs for both pets and their owners. They are attached to the legs of furniture, do not interfere with movement around the room, and are almost invisible. You can make them yourself using simple items.

A cat hammock can be hung in any room of the house.

To work you will need:

  • some durable fabric;
  • threads;
  • needles;
  • fasteners that will fix the product in the selected location.

Original cat bed

House-booth. The design of such a house resembles a doghouse; it has a roof and soft inner lining. A characteristic feature of the product is the presence of a special scratching post on which the pet sharpens its sharp claws. Such housing can be purchased at a pet store or made with your own hands.

House-booth for a cat

Cardboard structures. These are the most impractical products for pets. They quickly become unusable, lose their presentable appearance and tear. Constructed from boxes or cardboard sheets.

Cardboard house

Special mini-beds and sofas for cats. They are miniatures of pieces of home furniture. Such houses are very comfortable, fit harmoniously into the interior of the room, and do not clutter it up.

Sofa for a cat

Built-in houses. Built-in houses are universal structures. They are often located inside cabinets, bedside tables or ottomans. Such pieces of furniture perform two functions at once:

  • house the pet;
  • used by owners in everyday life(for storing things or other items).

Built-in cat house

Game complexes. These are quite complex and large products, consisting of a certain number of elements (ladders, scratching posts, beds, etc.). They are very convenient for cats, but not every homeowner can install such a house in their apartment, since they require a large area to accommodate them.

The design of a cat house consists of several elements. These include:

  • frame base;
  • soft covering;
  • special fillers and insulation materials;
  • scratching posts;
  • connecting elements of the structure;
  • various fasteners.

To make the frame base, boards, wicker, plastic, plywood, chipboard or MDF are used. The main condition the right choice material - it should not have an unpleasant odor, since the cat may not perceive such a “fragrant” home.

Making the base of a plywood house

The covering is made from any available soft fabric that is at hand. Plush, fur, carpet are the most popular materials for making upholstery for a cat house.

Important! Electrified materials must not be used during operation.

To ensure that the house is reliably protected and insulated, experts recommend using fillings such as synthetic winterizer, synthetic padding or foam rubber. They not only retain heat inside the structure, but also have soundproofing functions.

Scratching posts, unlike other elements, are made of more durable materials. Metal or plastic pipes are used to construct the frame, and strong jute rope is used to cover it.

For upholstery, use soft polyester fabric

  3. The pillows are connected to each other using decorative ropes (at a certain distance from each other).
  4. 3-4 long ropes are sewn to the edges of the top pillow, connected to each other, and hung on a ceiling hook.
  5. Decorate the finished hanging house with affordable items.

The original cat house will become a favorite place for your pet. Make it yourself according to one of the suggested instructions, and your pet’s joy will know no bounds.

House for a cat: photo

Hello, dear readers of our magazine!

To begin with, to spur your interest, the first photograph, which shows the result of our reasoning and work, and, of course, the lightning-fast assessment of the owner of her new penthouse.

So let's get started.

Let's consider the feasibility of having a cat house in an apartment and why it is worth making it yourself.

The first question that may arise is why is this necessary? Because, as many may think, houses for cats are just a toy or a design element for the owner himself, they say, a cat walks on its own, sleeps where it wants, sharpens its claws anywhere, etc. I beg to differ with this. All these unpredictable, at first glance, processes of selecting “own” places in an apartment (house) occur precisely because your cat does not have its own multifunctional corner that would fulfill all its whims.

Second. You can say that having a cat house is not a 100% guarantee that your pet will spend time in it, it depends. I again disagree. Everything is simple here. Many people believe that the very fact that “I went to the pet store... I spent such and such a rather large amount... etc.” is already a benefit for your cat, and the amount of perfect benefit is directly proportional to the amount spent. And now, this awkward moment, you bring a new house for your cat, and she bypasses it ten times over. How so. Let's imagine the situation with us people. When we build a house for ourselves... What a house, even if we are renovating the apartment. Would you really trust someone to choose the color of paint for the walls or wallpaper? Hardly. And why all? Yes, because we want to do everything in our human house just the way we want it. What happens when we bring a ready-made house from the store? Your cat gets something that won't always compete with, say, a closet or a chair. And if you have a choice, and the cat has it - this is the whole apartment - then draw conclusions.

Based on what was written above, there is only one conclusion. A cat house should be out of competition with other furniture in the apartment, without any doubt, in the eyes of the cat. Ask yourself, how likely are you to find a ready-made cat house in a store that will outperform all competitors in your apartment?

Third. You may say that this is too time consuming and costly. Well, you really need to set aside time for this, and this process may very likely take you much longer than you planned. BUT! If you are already here and reading this article (and will read it to the end), then I think you will not have any problems with this. And the financial question is a very interesting point, why exactly in financially It is profitable to make a house with your own hands. Here you can take two radically different positions: and for the purpose of manufacturing a product, it is very high quality. In fact, at little expense, you can make a house of such quality that stores do not sell it due to the low demand for such expensive goods. I assure you, you can adjust the budget by the number of materials, sizes, number of modules, etc. If, as a result, the house you make with your own hands will cost you more than if you bought it in a store, then this will be due to the quality of the finished product. But if you are quite satisfied with the store-bought quality of the houses, then you can start manufacturing based on their concept, and thereby save on it.

Basic criteria for assessing a house or how to make it the best place to spend time for your cat.

  1. Height and size of observation platforms. Everything here is banally simple. The higher, the better - an indisputable fact. The main thing is not to overdo it with this very height. It will be enough to observe your pet, where and on what he (she) sleeps, rests, and, when making a house with your own hands, make observation deck slightly higher than where your cat usually likes to be. As for size, the principle is simple. Make the top platform slightly smaller than the bottom. The top one will benefit due to the fact that it is higher, and the bottom one will be more comfortable. We considered this a very important point, since if the lower platform does not have advantages, then it will stand idle.
  2. Viewing area. It is very important for a cat to control as much space around it as possible with its gaze. Most ideal option- on the wall opposite the entrance door to the room. This way your cat will be able to control the entire room in which she is located plus another room that is located behind front door to the room. Accordingly, think in advance about the place where the house will stand.
  3. Availability of scratching post. The scratching post should be accessible from anywhere your cat lies. Otherwise, absolutely everything that comes under the paw will act as a scratching post.
  4. The main function of the booth. Here the situation is more complicated. You need to observe your cat where she likes to hide most. If it’s under the bed, it means she likes no one to see her, but she herself monitors the situation in the apartment. If in the closet, then most likely she loves so that no one will find her, and at the same time not see anyone. According to the observations, it is necessary to design the house: one or two entrances, a narrow or wide entrance, from which sides, etc.

We will not convince you that our designs, sizes, positions and placements are perfect. We did DIY cat house based on the four conditions described above.

Watch our experience in creating this wonderful penthouse, and keep these four points in mind to create your ideal home.

Are you ready? Let's get started.

First of all, let's look at what we need to make a cat house with our own hands using our example. Please note that each of these points is at your discretion. They are completely interchangeable, excludable and adjustable. It all depends on your specific case. As for materials, we recommend that you dig around in your closets, balconies, garages; it is likely that you will be able to find many parts for your future house, thereby saving much more than expected. Our case is no exception. We did not spend money on the frame base - OSB boards, pipes and small consumables.

The tools we will need are:

  1. Roulette
  2. Ruler
  3. Pencil
  4. Jigsaw
  5. Screwdriver
  6. Drill
  7. Compass
  8. Vacuum cleaner
  9. Stool
  10. Construction stapler.
  11. Hammer
  12. Screwdrivers
  13. Thermal gun
  14. Scissors
  15. Hacksaw

The materials we will need are:

How to make a house for a cat with your own hands. Step-by-step instructions for the manufacturing process with photographs.

The first and most important thing to do is a diagram (drawing). Without it, you may not be able to calculate the amount of material or, much worse, the walls of your house simply won’t fit together. In our case, we used the Pro100 program, which greatly simplified the planning process for us. But this is not prerequisite successful production, you just need a sheet of paper, a ruler and a pencil.

Click on the photo to view it in full size.

By putting on display everything we have in stock,

We have begun the global process of cutting OSB boards.

The foundation of the entire structure. A simple rectangle. Please note that one of the scraps served us as a long ruler.

House walls 4 pcs. placed on one slab.

Marking upper corners front and back wall for our beautiful roof.

The last thing left to note on this slab is the circular inlet holes. Due to the fact that there was no compass at hand, improvised means were used. Namely, sushi chopsticks and 3 self-tapping screws.

After our compass was ready, we continued cutting. We have planned two inputs, so we draw two circles.

The cutting is finished.

Then the dustiest process begins - cutting. To complete this process, we went to the elevator landing. It is worth noting that thanks to the presence of a special hole for a vacuum cleaner in the jigsaw, the degree of contamination of the site has decreased by at least three times.
So, cutting. There are no subtleties in this process, the main thing is to do it accurately and carefully.

Cut out the base. We cut off the corners.

Cut out 3 roof elements.

We cut out our 2 platforms. We cut off the corners.

We make entrance holes. In order to start cutting them out with a jigsaw, you need to drill a wide hole with a drill.

Carefully, slowly and elegantly cut out the circle.

According to the proven scheme, we make a second hole.

The cutting is finished. All that remains is to process the edges of one central part of the roof, so that on the sides it meets at an angle with the slopes.
We set the jigsaw to cut at 45 degrees.

We make the ribs of the central part of the roof at 45 degrees.

In total, we received 10 such parts of our future cat house.

We divided a 1.5 m long metal pipe that had been lying around after repairs into three pieces of 50 cm and 65 cm (and an unnecessary 35 cm).

After all these processes, it was decided to assemble the structure without upholstery, to understand that everything is going according to plan. In fact, the process of assembling a structure with finished upholstery is practically no different from this.

First of all, we fasten the walls of the house using furniture corners.

Then, we attach our assembled walls to the base of the structure with furniture corners.

Assembling the roof. We screw the central part of the roof (with beveled edges at 45 degrees) to the walls of the house, having previously drilled holes in the places of twisting.

We plant the sides (slopes) on small carnations. 4 pcs. on each side.

We try on mounting kits for attaching the pipe to the base of the structure and to the platforms.

The pipe mounting kit only provides one hole for clamping the pipe. We decided to strengthen the structure and drilled 3 more holes. As a result, the pipe had to be clamped with 4 screws.

After assembling the entire structure, a slight wobble of the platforms in the places where the pipes were fastened was revealed; for this reason, we increased the number of holes for fastening to eight, and, in order not to take risks, we did this both from the side of the pipe clamp and from the side of fastening to the platforms and the basis. In total, each of the fasteners had 16 holes. Quite a lot. But we are happy with the result.

Having made sure that everything was done correctly at this stage, we went to bed because it was very late, and the next day we dismantled the structure and started cutting the fabric.

Here I would like to note our principled position that absolutely all parts of a cat house should be covered with fabric. We decided to avoid bare areas of wood. Also, we wanted to minimize the number of seams. Pay attention to the store houses, you will see that none of the manufacturers set such a goal. And bad. For at least two reasons. First. Any seam is a reason for your cat to start sharpening its claws there, and you probably know how it ends. Second. For a cat, bare wood and soft fur are like two different worlds. The likelihood of your pet wanting to sit in a fur-lined room increases 10 times. Take, for example, an example: when the assembled unupholstered wooden house stood in the corridor, the cat walked around it on the 10th road. And when the upholstered structure was put up for evaluation, it jumped onto the site with lightning speed and it was already quite difficult to drive it away. But if you are in the mood to save money, then you can try to do without interior upholstery. This way you can save 2 times on fabric. The choice is yours.

So, upholstery. The principle is simple. 1 - fitting, 2 - cutting with a knife, 3 - stretching, 4 - fastening with a stapler.

Let's start with the simplest. Base. The only detail that was not upholstered on the bottom, due to absolute inexpediency.

Teach! It is important that the length of the staple does not exceed the thickness of the part. The edges of the staple will come out on the other side - this is not pleasant.

Next is the roof. It's a little more complicated here.
In order for us to be able to upholster it with one piece of fabric, for this we need to fix its three-part shape in the form in which it should be. Assembling it without the base of the house will not be difficult. It will keep its shape thanks to the nails we used to fasten it yesterday. And in order to finally fix its position, we add glue to the places where the parts are attached using a heat gun.

After waiting 5 minutes, we can safely begin upholstering the finished roof.

The roof is ready, let's move on to the interior walls of the house.
Having previously secured 3 walls of the house (without the front wall) according to the same principle as we did with the roof (nails + glue), we began to upholster the inside of the house, securing the edges of the fabric to the edges of the walls.

Hole. Our favorite hole.

We attach the edges of the fabric to the edge of the hole in the same way.

After the inside of the cat house is completely upholstered, we can fasten the structure of 4 walls using furniture corners, as we did yesterday on the unupholstered structure.

Now that the cat house is finally attached, you can start upholstering the outside of the house with one piece of fabric. We leave the seam in the far back corner.

It’s the same story with the entrance hole, except that we fasten the edges inside the house, and not on the edge.

We attach the finished frame to the base with furniture corners.

Next, we fasten the roof in the same way as we did during the test assembly, i.e. for 4 screws. The only time when you need to drill through the fur, unfortunately, you can’t do without it. The main thing to consider when passing a drill through the fur is that it rotates in reverse side, to avoid rupture.

Preliminary assessment by the customer. The customer is satisfied.

Aren't you tired? The last push, it's almost done.

Scratching post. We attach the pipes to our platforms.

Courteous pet owners simply cannot leave their pet without a secluded place where the latter can spend time snoring peacefully on a cozy bedding. In this review we'll talk about cats, or more precisely about their home. Yes, yes, not only dogs need kennel houses, cats need them too. Only, unlike street dog kennels, a cat house will be installed somewhere on the territory of a house, cottage or apartment. This review will provide information regarding self-made cat house, as well as many photos of finished products.

Types of houses for cats.

  • Open. By open we mean various sunbeds, hammocks and suspended semicircular structures that can be mounted on walls or heating radiators.
  • Closed. Such a house is completely closed on all sides, with the exception of the front part, where there is an open hole through which the animal can enter or exit into its mansions.

You can make really chic apartments for a cat out of cardboard, say in the form of a castle or an observation tower, but they won’t last very long, sooner or later the cat will start gnawing and scratching it with its claws.

What are the houses made of?

In fact, the choice of materials is quite extensive; these can be fabric items made from cardboard, finished plastic products, woven from wicker, made using the felting technique from wool, or wood. In addition, they can be made from old household appliances (Soviet TVs), cabinets, chests of drawers or ottomans. In addition, on sale you can find very beautiful loungers with legs, which are mini sofas or armchairs.

In stores you can find houses for cats that are visually similar to dog kennels, covered with water-repellent fabric, such products can be placed not only in the house, but also in the garden.

Where to put a cat house.

Watch the behavior of the animal, many of them choose a place on the floor where they love to just lie around and do nothing. This particular area is ideal for installing a house, but we still recommend placing the product 30-40 cm further from the favorite place so as not to disturb the animal’s usual slope and lifestyle. In addition, it is important to understand that the house should not interfere with your movement around the apartment; you don’t want to constantly stumble through its new home! Well, in order for the cat to get used to its house, you need to throw its favorite toy inside the house and let the animal go to a new apartment. You won’t notice how the cat will fall in love with the house and will happily spend time in it.

Note: you can make a lounger house from an old suitcase; you need to screw the legs to it from below and place a soft rug inside. Believe me, the cat will be happy to receive such a gorgeous gift.

How to make a house for a cat.

Cocoon.

From large quantity paper, you need to form an “egg”, wrap it in film and wrap it with tape. After which the cocoon must be covered with pieces of newspaper, and then with napkins immersed in PVA glue. Leave to dry, then cut a hole in the front with a stationery knife, cut through the inner “egg,” and slowly pull out the paper and film through the hole. Next, the entire cocoon should be painted inside and out with white acrylic paint, after which a layer of red paint should be applied on the inside. All that remains is to paste over top part cocoon with pieces of cute paper and put a lounger inside.

Soon it will be a year since my mother got a cat, and I decided to make her a cat house with my own hands as a gift. Naturally, the first thing I did was go to the Internet and find out how to make a house for a cat, and in the process of making a luxurious penthouse for my mother’s cat, I made two friends happy with houses - the houses turned out nice, but these designs simply could not withstand the intensity of our Lucky’s passions.

Bed or playhouse?

Why and how to make a cat house with your own hands? I will give instructions a little lower, but now I’ll just explain why a cat needs its own home. First of all, let's figure it out a little - it can be a bed and a play house. What exactly does your cat need? Only you can know about this.

If you want, you can make a large combined structure with one or two sleeping places, a play area, stands and other elements that the cat will enjoy playing with. If you have recently adopted a kitten, then you should not do it homemade house for growth - it is best to make a simple design that will protect your kitten from psychological trauma and fears.

You can make a good cat house with your own hands in different ways- read a few instructions, choose in our article which one you will make a cat house with your own hands and get started.

Manufacturing instructions

If you want to quickly and easily make a cat house with your own hands, step-by-step instructions will help you. So what do we need?
  1. Big carton. The size of the house depends on the size of your pet, but on average they should be at least 35*50 centimeters. How to make a house tall? The cat should fit in the house standing up, it should be comfortable.
  2. Glue, scissors and paper cutter.
  3. Soft upholstery material - you can take foam rubber, you can use batting or soft bulky fabric, an old blanket or an unnecessary blouse will do.
  4. Decorative fabric - it is better to choose a natural dense fabric of a calm color; you can use faux fur or boucle fabric.
  5. If you find a box suitable size- then you need to prepare it (remove labels, clean with a stiff brush). If the box larger size or just sheet cardboard - cut the box and assemble it.
  6. Draw a round hole on the end part - it should be large enough for the cat to comfortably crawl into its house. For example, you can circle a saucer.
  7. Next you need to cut the hole using a cutter. If it doesn’t turn out too smooth, don’t worry, just increase the diameter a little.
  8. Be sure to glue all the joints - the house must be strong and reliable so that the cat feels calm and comfortable in it. It is best to glue with tape or regular glue - glue the parts of the box one to the other, and if necessary, seal the joints with strips of fabric or paper.
  9. Dry your piece thoroughly before moving on.
  10. Cover the house with soft material. For these purposes, you can take superglue - the most ordinary one will do. You can sew the fabric to the cardboard, but it’s better not to use paper clips - I think the cat might accidentally start gnawing and get hurt.
  11. After the house, covered with soft material, has dried, proceed to final stage- upholstery of cat houses. First, make a pattern with a small margin and carefully glue the inside of the house. Try to make fewer seams. It is best to overlap the seams with a large margin, so you can do without working with a needle and thread.
  12. Sew a small pillow and an additional light blanket into the house. No, I don't think that a cat will hide in its cozy apartment, but from a small blanket the cat will cozy nest.
Want to do something original? Watch a detailed video tutorial on how to make a cat house out of a box (cardboard and fabric) and get inspired!

First of all, decide on the materials. Many people think that only those who are greedy for money for finished products undertake to make a cat house with their own hands. In fact, this is not entirely true. Why does a person want to make a homemade house?
  1. The issue of saving, of course, is far from the last in matters of handmade cat houses. What is the price nice house for a cat? About 12-20 thousand rubles. The amount is quite large, and not everyone can afford it. Of course, there are cheap goods on sale, mostly made by Chinese craftsmen. But most owners do not want to risk the health of their pet.
  2. A question of original design. Some people want to have a unique item home interior, others are interested in the size of the house for the cat, while others want to make the palace for the animal safer and stronger.
  3. The love of needlework is a great reason to make something for your pet. We are so rarely able to work with our hands with pleasure that some are specifically looking for an excuse, and benefiting our beloved Murka is not the worst thing to do (otherwise you might end up with tire swans).
Another option on how to make a house for a cat:

If you doubt your abilities, then first try making a very small house out of cardboard to evaluate the convenience and stability of the structure. Naturally, the miniature can simply be glued together - it is not necessary to make it soft and very beautiful.

Be sure to choose a place for your furry’s future home. You may have to reconsider the design somewhat and adapt the pattern to suit yourself - as you know, cramped apartments are quite common.

Try not to use small elements that the cat can tear off or chew off. My daughter thinks the cat house would look better if it was decorated with beads and buttons, but unfortunately my mom's cat isn't very smart.

What materials can be used

A variety of materials can be used in production. I will describe all the elements of the product and tell you what materials these parts can be made from.

Sleeping area
There should be a rigid frame with a roof (if you are making a house) or without (if it is more of an open or partially open bed) and a soft bed. To make a frame you can use:

  • tree;
  • cardboard;
  • plastic;
  • light metal tubes;
  • plywood and chipboard;
  • textile.
Litter sewn from fabric and filled with printed material:
  • foam;
  • padding polyester;
  • straw;
  • foamed polystyrene or other special granules.
A claw sharpener is made from a board and winding - you can use synthetic ropes and natural jute or hemp.

From cardboard

The simplest version of a house that comes to mind for absolutely all owners of these animals is a cat house made of cardboard. If you have a cat, then you know how much they love all kinds of bags, bags and boxes. Any packing material is their favorite toy, for this reason many people do cardboard house IR for a cat.

See how to assemble such a house in just half an hour.

Pros:

  • easy and quick to do;
  • low costs;
  • even a child can handle it;
  • animals like it.
Cons:
  • quickly becomes unusable;
  • doesn't look very presentable.
In what cases can these disadvantages be neglected? Yes, the house wears out pretty quickly, but at the same time it costs practically nothing - it can be remade at any time.

Unpresentable appearance can be a problem for a person who is too particular about his home. For example, my mother chooses textiles only by taking pieces of furniture upholstery from home - so that the colors are in harmony, otherwise the tablecloths and napkins will look tacky. Naturally, she wouldn't like a cardboard house, but I was interested in making it, and it fit perfectly into my close friend's creative workshop.

From newspaper tubes

See how you can make a cat house from newspaper tubes. To be honest, I have not tried to make such a house with my own hands, but I know that newspaper tubes are often used to imitate straws. I can also note that a house made of newspaper tubes looks cute and at the same time reliable. It is better to make the bed for such a house quite high, from foam rubber.

This information (preparing newspaper tubes) may also be useful to you:

Soft house

Naturally, you can sew a cat house with your own hands. Copy the drawings, make patterns, and sew a cat house.

The most interesting sewn house I saw was made in the shape of a small tent - its design used arches for the frame, over which fabric was stretched. As the “architect” said, strong wire acted as a frame, and the fabric was taken from his old shirt - quite durable cotton, which it was a pity to throw away because of the frayed sleeves.

How to make a house for a cat in two minutes? Stretch the T-shirt over the box and provide a soft liner. The video shows instructions on how to make a house for a cat. from a T-shirt and a disassembled hanger- it is used just as a frame.

You can make a house out of a T-shirt or more in a simple way- take a convenient box, remove the end element, and pull the T-shirt over the house so that the neck coincides with the missing end wall. The result is a house with a round entrance. Quite convenient and at the same time simple.

A great way to make a cozy nest for your beloved cat - felt it using a wet technique. These houses look very unusual, but they:

  • warm;
  • beautiful;
  • completely natural;
  • soft and safe.

To make a home for a cat with your own hands, you need to look at photos and videos carefully - you can’t do it with photos alone. The built castle for the cat should also please the family - after all, cats are very sensitive to the mood in the house.

Are you afraid that you won’t make a beautiful and neat house? I was afraid too, but then I found it good way. You sew a house out of fabric, and mask all the seams with strips of faux fur. The pattern can be any design; stripes of fur will help make the house neater.

By the way, don’t forget - if we sew a house by hand, it is very important to check that all the needles and pins remain in the drawers and are not lost in soft material, otherwise the cat could get hurt.

Combined design

What if you make not a house for a cat with your own hands, but a huge play complex? Several floors, a sleeping area, a play area, passages and hammocks... It sounds tempting, but making such a cat house with your own hands is quite difficult - I advise those who have at least once built any furniture in their life (at least a stool at school) to take it on in labor classes).

As a result, I made just such a house for my mother and covered it with fluffy faux fur. beige color- it turned out no worse than in the store, but I had to ask friends for help; I couldn’t have coped with such a volume of work myself. Watch the master class in which I made a cat house with my own hands.

There are also such options for the gaming complex:

To make a scratching post or not

How to make a cat scratching post house with your own hands? Cats like to sharpen their claws anywhere, so it is very important to provide them with a suitable place for this - this way the animal will not damage your precious furniture, and at the same time it will not get hurt. To make a scratching post, you need a coil of rope and a strong board or round pipe (you can take plastic sewer pipes (clean, of course, and only from the store).

Watch how your cat sharpens her claws and you will understand what kind of design she needs, vertical and horizontal, and then fix the future scratching post in the desired position and wrap it with rope. I advise you to take natural rope, it looks aesthetically pleasing even if it is disheveled.

How to make a stationary scratching post for cats with your own hands? A small piece of pipe is wrapped in jute rope and placed on a stand; a bag of sand is placed inside the pipe (for stability). See the option below, a scratching post with nylon rope painted in bright colors.

Do you want to make an elegant house with a scratching post yourself? Install it instead of a roof - it looks adorable and cats like it.

Try making houses for cats with your own hands from boxes or fabric - after all, even a child can figure out how to build a house for a cat from scrap materials.
