Hop cones recipes. Hop mask for aging skin. Hop cones: medicinal and beneficial properties

Hello, dear friends.

Let's talk today about an unfairly forgotten plant - hop cones and its beneficial properties, and methods of use in treatment. I also only recently remembered him in a conversation about insomnia. And I immediately decided to discuss this topic.

This plant has been known in Rus' for a long time, since pre-Christian times. The god of fertility from the ancient Slavs, Yarilo, drew his power and strength from him. Hops both heal and amuse – everyone knows about its use in beer making.

The plant tolerates bad weather conditions well and grows quickly. Therefore, in Rus' it was customary to shower newlyweds with hops so that they would be cheerful, healthy, live in abundance and give birth to strong children. Today, very often the main thing for a future bride is wedding dresses, photos, and in those days the health of future children was valued above all else.

Treatment with these fruits was widespread in witchcraft: they protected against damage and the evil eye and were considered a good love spell. Medicinal properties They were described in Arabic manuscripts and dated back to the 13th century. These treatises described diuretics and blood cleansers.

In Europe, this amazing plant began to be used in the 4th century as a component in beer recipes. They started breeding it specifically in the 10th century, when brewing became very popular in Saxony, Bavaria and France.

Hop cones: beneficial properties, application

The fruits consist of thin petals, which are coated on the inside with hop flour. Hop meal is a golden powder with a bitter taste. This is its most valuable element - lipulin. In addition to lipulin, it contains a large amount of phenolic compounds and alkaloids, which give beer a special aroma and taste.

But not everything is used for treatment: only greenish cones are used, at the stage when the bracts cover it. Do not use unripe fruits - bright green in color and overripe ones - yellow-brown in color. They must be collected in a basket; in polyethylene bags they quickly heat up and “burn.” Real herbalists do not use the fruits themselves, but hop flour, which is obtained after drying and sifting the fruits. But using just a plant will also be correct, albeit less effective.

If you buy herbs at a pharmacy, pay attention to the packaging, which indicates the place of collection - herbalists advise using plants collected in the Altai Mountains.

In nature, there are two types of this plant - this is the common climbing hop, which is used for medicines, making beer and in traditional medicine and Japanese climbing plant, a purely ornamental plant.

Treatment. Application

The use of the plant used to be very extensive. Nowadays, too, herbalists have begun to return more to ancient recipes.

A decoction or water infusion has beneficial and therapeutic effect on the body: as an analgesic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, gentle laxative, anthelmintic and mild sleeping pill. Official medicine also uses its medicinal properties: it is part of valocordin, herbion, corvaldin, sedavit, urolesan.

Attention! The plant is toxic when used internally. It is necessary to strictly observe the dosage of drugs!

Insomnia

  • For insomnia, it is best to use a herbal mixture: 2 tbsp. spoons of the collection (peppermint, hop cones, valerian root), pour 1 liter of boiling water. Let the broth brew, strain, cool and take half a glass before meals.
  • As a child, my grandmother made me pillows from these fragrant fruits so that I would not have a headache and sleep better. Only this year's harvest was used for the pillows.
  • Tea also acts as a sleeping pill: 1 tbsp. Pour a spoonful of hop cones into a glass of boiling water and leave for 15 minutes. Drinking two cups throughout the day has a calming, sedative effect; 1 cup, drunk before bed, is like a sleeping pill.

Joint pain

  • For joint pain, pour a tablespoon of raw material with a glass of boiling water and let it brew. Then moisten a clean cotton cloth with the resulting solution and apply it to the sore joint.
  • An ointment made from lard and dried, ground fruits helps with trophic ulcers. It can also be used to relieve pain from abscesses and bruises.

Cosmetics

  • In order to get rid of oily shine on the face, I suggest preparing a decoction of 2 tbsp. spoons of ground cones and a glass of boiling water. Wipe your face before going to bed.
  • Lotion made from parsley and hop cones is used to treat acne. To prepare it, take 2 tbsp. l. finely chopped parsley and 20 g of chopped cones and pour a glass of boiling water. Leave for 30 minutes, strain. Store lotion in the refrigerator. Lotions and compresses are made from the infusion. The lotion relieves inflammation and skin irritation well. Wipe the face morning and evening.
  • To strengthen hair, an infusion of fruits is washed and rinsed.

Allergy

  • To treat allergies of unknown nature, a herbal mixture is used: hawthorn, dog nettle herb, lemon balm, speedwell and hops in a ratio of 1:2:2:2:2. The indicated components (5 tbsp) are poured with boiling water (4 cups) and left for 10 minutes. Drink 50 ml per day before meals 3 times and the 4th time before bed.

Baking bread

  • Hops have long been used in baking. Instead of yeast, hop starter was used. We now know that yeast negatively affects the intestines and often leads to dysbiosis. This does not happen when eating bread that is leavened with hops. If you eat this bread, you can get rid of indigestion, bloating, constipation and increased gas formation.

I suggest you watch the video on how to make hop leaven for bread. If you are interested in the recipe, the continuation of the recipe can be found from the author of the video. Or ask questions in the comments, I will be happy to answer.

Baths when tired

  • If you are irritable, overexcited or tired, take a bath with the infusion of this miracle cure. To do this, prepare an infusion: 3 tbsp. l. Pour 3 cups of boiling water over the hop cones and let it brew for 15-20 minutes, strain. Add this infusion to a bath with warm water. Bath time is 10-15 minutes.

Diseases of the liver, kidneys, gall bladder

  • These fruits are also used to treat cholecystitis and other diseases of the liver, gall bladder and kidneys. The infusion is prepared as follows: 3 tbsp. l. crushed raw materials, pour half a glass of alcohol. Infuse, shaking for 10 days in a dark place. It should be taken 3 times a day, adding 40 drops per glass of water.

Applications in other areas

  • The fruits of the plant are used for cancerous tumors. The information is very rare, but it is there. On one herbalist’s blog I came across recipes where he uses both the fruits and roots of the plant to treat such diseases.
  • I also came across information about using a decoction for breast enlargement. What is this myth or reality? It turns out that it is possible to enlarge the breasts, but not very significantly, and one must also remember that the use of drugs based on this plant leads to menstrual irregularities, hormonal disorders and other female diseases.
  • Young shoots of the plant can be eaten, like asparagus.

This is interesting: The concepts of “tipsy” and “intoxicated” have nothing in common with the plant. Extract from the plant kills pathogenic bacteria, but does not prevent the development of yeast, which is involved in the process of alcohol fermentation. Beer is preserved with hops to prevent rapid souring, and as a side effect it has a specific smell. It is not the plant that harms our body in beer, but the alcohol.

If you still have some questions, you can watch an additional video about the benefits of this plant.

I wish you, dear ones, good health, restful sleep and let the gifts of nature help you maintain your beauty.

Common hop ( Humulus lupulus) is a perennial dioecious plant of the Cannabaceae family.

The stem is climbing, up to 7 m or more in length, hollow, tetrahedral, densely seated along the ribs with sharp hooked spines. The leaves are opposite, long-petiolate, very rough, with golden-yellow glands; the upper ones are often solid, the rest are palmately incised into 3, less often 5 pointed lobes.

Flowers are unisexual, axillary or apical. In female plants, the inflorescences are dense cones collected from 20-60 flowers. In the lower part of the cones, lupulin glands with bitter substances are formed in the cells.

Male inflorescences are highly branched leafless panicles. In forests, staminate (male) specimens are usually found.

The pollen is very light and can be carried by wind up to 3 km. The fruit is a single-seeded, brown, flattened nut, covered at the base with the remaining perianth.

It blooms from July to mid-August, the fruits ripen in August - September. Propagated by seeds and vegetatively (offshoots). Life expectancy is 15-20 years or more.

Distributed in almost all regions of the European part of the CIS, the Caucasus, Western and Eastern Siberia, the Far East and Central Asia.

Grows on moist and damp fertile soils in black-alder and oak-ash forests, in floodplains, in bushes and ravines. Prefers humus-rich soils.

Other names: curly hop, beer hop, hop blossom, hop cone.

Hops is a dioecious vine; its male and female inflorescences are located on different plants. Since “cones” without seeds are more valued in both brewing and medicine, only female plants are usually bred, propagated vegetatively.

Male plants do not form cones. A hop cone is a fruiting female inflorescence. During flowering, it looks like a small spikelet, almost a ball at the base of the leaves, yellowish-green in color.

Medicinal raw materials are hop cones. They are collected in initial stage ripening around mid-August.

It is best to start harvesting a few days before they are fully ripe, when they are still greenish-yellow (bright green indicates under-ripeness, and yellow-brown indicates over-ripeness).

It is also not recommended to collect cones with greatly enlarged and protruding scales: they contain many seeds and little lupulin substance. The cones are torn off (each separately) along with pedicels up to 2.5 cm long (cones without stems crumble when dried).

The collected raw materials must be quickly dried in the shade, spread out thin layer. Properly dried buds retain their natural color, aroma and elasticity.

Never hang hops in bunches like other herbs. In this case, the most valuable part of the raw material will crumble and disappear - lupulin, which remains after drying on the litter in the form of golden powder.

The shelf life of raw materials is 3 years. The smell of the raw materials is specific, hop-like, the taste is slightly tart. Sifting through a sieve produces a greenish-yellow powder (lupulin), the grains of which should be shiny, yellow or golden in color. It can be stored in jars and used in the same cases as hop infusion.

Chemical composition of medicinal raw materials

Hop cones contain lupulin, vitamins, essential oil, valeric and hop tannic acids, humulin, wax, choline, gum, trimethylamine.

Active ingredients: bitterness, resinous substances, humulone and lupulon, essential oil, minerals, flavonoids - essential components plants that, when combined, also provide the calming effect of hops.

Studies have shown that the bitter substance lupulin has a calming effect on the central nervous system in cases of insomnia, sexual excitability, and wet dreams.

In scientific homeopathy, hop cones are used together with other medicinal herbs for treatment urinary tract and kidneys, as an anti-inflammatory, diuretic and regulating mineral metabolism agent.

Numerous observations and experiences traditional medicine different countries indicate the calming, antispasmodic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of common hop cones.

Recent pharmacological data indicate that biologically active substances included in aqueous extracts from hop cones, vitamins, flavonoids and tannins have antiulcer, capillary-strengthening and analgesic properties, which are already used in the treatment of diseases of the skin and mucous membranes membranes accompanied by inflammatory lesions, allergic manifestations and itching.

Pharmacologists include hop cones in preparations medicinal plants, recommended as a sedative for cardiovascular diseases.

It has been established that herbal preparations of hops have a positive effect on metabolic processes in the human body, especially on the regulation of water, mineral and fat metabolism.

"Valocordin" - contains hop essential oil. It is used for insomnia, intestinal spasms, tachycardia, neuroses with increased excitability.

"Valosedan" - helps with neurosis-like conditions and neuroses. It is taken 2 to 3 times a day, a teaspoon.

The use of hop cones in folk medicine

Initially, hops were used as a blood purifier, choleretic and diuretic medicine. The famous physician Paracelsus recommended it for disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

At the beginning of the 19th century. pharmacist Plankh introduced hop glands medical name- lupulin. He used hop glands in pills and powders in a single dose of 0.3–2.0 g as a sedative, and in ointments to treat abscesses and ulcers.

Due to the antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, decoctions of hop cones are used in the form of lotions and ointments to treat radiculitis, joint diseases, bruises, burns, frostbite, scabies, fungal skin infections, infected wounds and ulcers.

Traditional medicine recommends a decoction of hop flowers for cancer of the stomach, liver, and lungs. An infusion of the herb is used to improve vision, for diseases of the liver, gall and bladder, for dropsy, malaria, sometimes as an abortifacient. Hops are used to treat gonorrhea and helminthic infestations.

The peoples of Tibet use hops as a remedy for the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, lungs (abscesses, hemoptysis, etc.), as well as a cardiac and pain reliever.

Tibetan medicine believes that hops can cure cancer without recurrence. Lupulin paste is recommended to be applied to malignant ulcers. In Mongolian medicine, hops are known as a stimulant and tonic.

Hops are highly valued in Chinese medicine. Unlike Europeans, the Chinese do not use synthetic drugs for diseases of the central nervous system. Hops in China are the main raw material for manufacturing sedatives and headache relievers.

Pillows stuffed with hops are one of the most popular remedies for insomnia in China.

Along with the already indicated use in folk medicine, hops play a special role in the fight against menstrual irregularities and menopause.

To do this, make tea from hop cones (preparation is described below) or simply take a small amount of hop glands on the tip of a knife 2-3 times a day.

In case of early baldness, to strengthen hair, traditional medicine recommends washing your hair with an infusion or decoction of hop cones.

Hop cones - recipes for use

Hop cone tea: 2 teaspoons with the top of hop cones are poured into 1/4 liter of boiling water and left for about 15 minutes. Drink either 2 times a day, 1 cup as a sedative, or half an hour before bedtime, 1 cup as a sleeping pill. In the latter case, it is recommended to add 1 teaspoon of valerian root when preparing tea.

Infusion: Pour a glass of boiling water into a tablespoon of crushed common hop flowers and heat for a quarter of an hour in a water bath, then cool and drain through cheesecloth. Drink 0.25 cups three times a day before meals.

Decoction of hop cones: take 200 ml of boiling water; 1 tsp hop cones.
Pour boiling water over the cones and leave to boil for 20-30 minutes. Then strain and drink 3-4 times a day, 1/4 cup

Hop cone ointment: grind the hop cones into powder, take one tablespoon of powdered hop cones, grind the cones with one tablespoon of fresh butter or unsalted lard, mix everything well.

This ointment is used for inflammation of the joints, bruises, rheumatism, and gout as a pain reliever. The ointment is also rubbed into painful, inflamed joints.

Hop oil To prepare hop oil, take a half-liter glass jar and fill it with hop cones (which were ground in advance), then fill them to the top with olive oil.

Leave the mixture to infuse, and when the mixture settles, add oil. Place the container with the composition in a dark place for a week.

Don't forget to shake the contents of the jar every day. After straining the finished oil, leave it to stand for 3 days. The oil is ready for use. Most often it is used for rubbing female breast(for the development of mammary glands).

For breast enlargement, gently apply hop oil (2-3 drops) to a clean body in the décolleté area with massaging movements. During the procedure, you must try not to stretch the skin of the breast.

To strengthen hair, apply essential oil (1-2 drops) to a comb and comb your hair in different directions.

Enrichment cosmetics– mix hop essential oil (a few drops) with 10 g of base (various tonics, creams, gels and masks are used as a base). The procedure improves the renewal process of skin cells, smooths out fine wrinkles, increases tone and eliminates sagging, and prevents cell aging.

Tincture of hop cones in alcohol: take one part of crushed cones, four parts of vodka, mix, infuse this tincture for seven days in a glass jar, then filter.

Take 5 drops per tablespoon of water, before meals, twice a day, for insomnia.

Infusion of hop cones to eliminate dandruff: take four tablespoons of hops, pour half a liter of water, boil over low heat for about 10 minutes with the lid closed, leave for about 30 minutes, filter.

We use it to rinse all types of hair, several times a week. Hair becomes stronger, splits less, oily hair become more shiny.

Contraindications for common hops

Hops is a poisonous plant. In case of an overdose, general malaise, headache, nausea, vomiting, pain in the heart and shortness of breath may occur.

Some people may experience allergic reactions. Hop preparations are used only as directed and under medical supervision, are contraindicated during pregnancy, and should be avoided in case of depression.

You can take such water procedures for no more than 10 minutes.

Contraindications to the use of medicinal plants

A decoction made from hop cones is not recommended for pregnant women and nursing mothers. Also, children under 2 years of age pose a potential danger, so it is worth limiting a young child from the medicinal effects of this plant.

khmil, khmelitsa, bitter, tsvil

A widespread plant, cultivated in industrial scale for the brewing industry. In folk medicine it is used as a sedative, diuretic, and anti-inflammatory agent. Natural estrogen.

Name in Latin: Humulus lupulus L.

Name in English: Hops ordinary

Family: Hemp

The culture's distribution area is extremely wide. Common hops grow everywhere, with the exception of the North Pole and hot steppe regions. They're not ripping him off for medicinal activity, but for the characteristic taste and color imparted by the fruits to beer. But the medicinal properties and contraindications of hop cones have been studied by science. The plant is used in official and folk medicine.

Features of common hops

The crop belongs to the Hemp family along with Japanese hops. The latter grows in limited areas of Japan and the Far East, does not have medicinal properties and is grown as an ornamental crop.

The name comes from the Latin “humus”, which means “earth”. The plant is characterized as crawling along the ground until the vine finds support, after which it entwines it completely. The species name includes the term “lupulus,” which means “wolf.” Defines the crop as an aggressive loach that entwines other plants and strangles them, often causing them to die due to lack of sunlight and air.

Description

Climbing hop is a perennial vine with a powerful rhizome. It grows up to three meters deep, fleshy, straight, light brown on the outside and white on the inside. Horizontal shoots grow from numerous buds, giving rise to new, young vine-stems.

Common hops. Botanical illustration from the book “Köhler’s Medizinal-Pflanzen”, 1887.

Every year in winter the shoots die off, but in the spring they grow back from the “buds” of the root. The stems creep along the ground, are long, usually grow up to five to seven meters, but there is evidence of shoots lasting up to eighteen meters. The stems are hollow inside, the surface is covered with T-shaped frequent spines. Visually, the shoots are hexagonal and dark green in color.

Leaves grow from the petioles along the stem. When the soil is sufficiently moist, they are large, with a heart-shaped base, three- or five-lobed, with a carved edge edged with sharp teeth. The outer surface of the sheets is rough, rich green in color. The inner one is lighter, with pronounced glands and sparse spines located along the entire plane of the leaf.

The flowering period begins in June and lasts up to two months. What hops look like at this time is well known to visitors to parks and squares, where the crop is often grown as a decorative or hedge. The liana is covered with numerous flowers, which on one bush differ significantly from each other. Some of the flowers are collected in panicles; they are small and green. The other part of the flowers is larger, they are collected in complex inflorescences, like scaly cones.

The difference is due to the gender of the flowers, among which the “panicles” are male, and the “cones” are female. It is from the latter that in August and September hop fruits are formed in the form of small nuts, flattened on the sides and as if sprinkled with yellow “powder” secreted by special glands of the fruit.

Distribution and cultivation

Hops are an unpretentious plant. It only needs well-moistened soil, on which it grows in any direction. IN natural environment it is found on river banks, in damp forests, in swampy areas and bushes. In Russia it grows from Western Siberia to the Caucasus and is cultivated on an industrial scale for the brewing industry.

It is planted in gardens and parks as an aesthetic, undemanding and fast-growing crop. Due to the fact that the stems die off annually, the plant does not cause significant harm to perennial neighboring crops. In summer cottages it is planted along hedges for decorative purposes. The culture propagates by petioles, which grow well in slightly shaded places.

Collection and preparation

The beneficial properties of hops are determined by the composition of its fruits. Cones are collected in August, while they are at the ripening stage. Fully ripened fruits are unsuitable for use, as they crumble after drying. The cones are picked by hand, close to the receptacles, and poured loosely into baskets for transportation.

Dry hop seeds in the shade, in well-ventilated areas at normal temperature. The duration of the preparation is short; the readiness of the raw material is checked by bending the cone. If the rod inside bursts with a characteristic sound, the raw material is ready. It is placed in bales or bags and compacted well. Breathable containers are used for storage. The finished raw material has a weak, pleasant odor and bitter taste.

Composition and properties

The composition of beer hop cones has been studied quite well. The main interest is the “yellow pollen” produced by glands on the walls of the fruit. It is called lupulin and includes up to seventy percent resinous substances, up to five percent bitterness and about two percent essential oil. Lupulin contains organic acids, yellow coloring matter, choline - natural stimulant gallbladder activity.

Industrial harvesting of hop cones is often carried out for the purpose of storing lupulin. In this case, the “pollen” is simply sown from the fruit through sieves. The substance is a mixture of nitrogen-containing elements, resins and ash. In progress heat treatment breaks down into humulin, an antibacterial substance with a bitter taste. And lupulon is a natural antioxidant with preservative properties.

These qualities of lupulin are widely used in brewing. It is humulin and lupulon that give beer its bitter taste and help it stay fresh longer. Without heat treatment, lupulin is toxic and can cause poisoning in humans.

Hop cone oil is rich in esters, up to three percent in volume, hop resins, gum and bitter substances. It contains acids, vitamins A and PP, thiamine and choline - biologically active complex, used by manufacturers of dietary supplements as the basis for food additives.

Application of hops

In the twentieth century, the medicinal properties of hops were studied for medicinal purposes. As a result of the study European specialists Estrogenic activity of the raw materials was revealed. The experiment was carried out according to the Allen-Doisy method using castrated rats and infantile mice. When dry extract of common hops was introduced into food and drink, an estrogenic effect was observed in eighty percent of experimental animals.

Characteristic changes in the genitals were observed: the mucous membrane of the uterus of female individuals increased, the vaginal lining became covered with mucus, characteristic of active work reproductive system. The weight of the genitalia in males increased 2.7 times, and manifestations of estrus were observed. This allowed us to draw conclusions about the hormonal activity of the essential compounds that make up hop cones. This is also evidenced by the fact that women involved in the procurement and processing of medicinal raw materials experience menstrual irregularities.

However, there are no direct recommendations for the use of hop cone decoction in gynecology. The fact is that huge dosages of the drug were used in experimental rats and mice - from ten to forty milligrams per animal.

The use of hops in humans in doses appropriate to their weight and capable of demonstrating any estrogenic effect is not possible. Therefore, using the plant during menopause to relieve symptoms or for breast enlargement is not a justified or scientifically supported practice.

The opinion that beer promotes bust growth, stimulates weight loss or causes satiety is also untrue. male body female hormones. The amount of lupulin used in beer is so insignificant that it has no effect on the human body.

Official medicine offers completely different possibilities for using medicinal raw materials. Similar aspects of the use of hop cones in folk medicine can be traced in the works of herbalist Mikhail Nosal, collections on medicinal plants by V.P. Makhlayuk and V.I. Popova.

  • Gastrointestinal diseases and genitourinary system. To stimulate appetite, an infusion of medicinal raw materials is used. It improves digestion, relieves pain during attacks of gastritis, has a choleretic effect in diseases of the liver and gall bladder, and demonstrates an anti-inflammatory effect in cystitis and kidney diseases.
  • Insomnia, stress. The most widespread use of the drug is as a sedative infusion that normalizes sleep and reduces excitability. Hops are present in most natural herbal remedies for nervous tension from pharmaceutical production.
  • Dermatology, trauma. An ointment based on hop cones is used externally. The product has some analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, so it is recommended for healing wounds, abscesses in diabetes, painful bruises, skin inflammation and acne. There is an analgesic effect for pain of a rheumatoid and gouty nature, and for varicose veins.
  • Cosmetology. Hop cones are used for hair as a remedy for baldness, to stimulate hair growth, and to activate dormant hair follicles. The decoction helps in the fight against dandruff.

In each case, water is used, alcohol infusion or a steam of hop cones.

Infusion for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys

Used for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract with impaired bile flow and severe pain. Recommended for hepatitis. Instead of infusion, lupulin powder itself can be used. Herbalist and herbalist Mikhail Nosal recommends taking it three times a day on the tip of a knife (0.3 grams each). But it is important to consider that lupulin powder is toxic and can cause signs of poisoning.

Preparation

  1. Pour the raw materials into a thermos. Use two tablespoons.
  2. Leave for four hours.
  3. Strain.

You should take a quarter glass three times a day, fifteen minutes before meals.

Tincture for insomnia

Instructions for using hop cones for insomnia include recommendations for making an alcohol tincture or “sleeping pad” from herbs. In the latter case, you need to collect lemon balm, mint, and motherwort herbs in a fabric bag, add hop inflorescences, and sew up the bag. Place it next to your pillow for deeper and more restful sleep. According to reviews, alcohol tincture is just as effective, but acts faster.

Preparation

  1. Place hop cones in a jar up to a quarter of the capacity.
  2. Pour vodka down the neck.
  3. Leave it to brew for a week.
  4. Strain.

The product should be taken twice a day, five drops diluted in a spoonful of water. The last dose is taken before bedtime.

Pain relieving ointment

Preparation

  1. Grind the hop cones into powder. Use a tablespoon of raw material.
  2. Rub with butter or rendered lard. Use a tablespoon of fat component.

Alexey, 49 years old:

Vyacheslav, 45 years old:

The medicinal properties and contraindications of hop cones were known back in the last century, when the demand for products with this component increased sharply. In folk medicine, it is more often used for almost all diseases, but in traditional treatment they are useful and miraculous only due to several aspects.

Hop fruits can be considered as an unusual composition of beneficial properties. The bud contains substances such as flavonoids, bitter components, waxes, myrcene, gums, farnesene, caryophyllene and tannins. In a smaller proportion there are pigments, ascorbic acid and active biological compounds.

Hop cones: beneficial properties and contraindications

Hops are known for their central role in brewing, but did you know that they are actually a form of herbal medicine that has been used since ancient times? Hops are believed to have originated in Egypt, and were already described as a “salad plant” in the first century BC.

However, hops add a unique bitterness to beer along with various tarry aromas that enhance the foam - and this is what makes them so popular among brewers. This is the flower of the hop plant (sometimes called cones because they resemble pine cones), often confused with the vine of wildflower plants, but this is a mistake.

The iso-alpha acid and xanthohumol compositions of hops have shown moderate antiviral activity against several viruses, including cytomegalovirus, herpes, rhinovirus, and others. Research also shows that xanthohumol is an effective anti-infective agent against microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and even malarial protozoa. It has been shown to inhibit the gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans.

  • Anti-inflammatory effect

Hops are known to have an anti-inflammatory effect. One study found that hops extract had anti-inflammatory effects in arthritic mice, and scientists suggest that it may be "a useful agent for intervention strategies targeting inflammatory disorders and/or inflammatory pain." In other words, this is beautiful and cheap remedy to relieve pain and stop inflammatory processes in the body.

  • Allergy

Hops extracts have been found to significantly reduce both nosebleed, and sneezing in allergy sufferers, suggesting that they may be effective in relieving allergy symptoms. If flowering plants cause redness and swelling, you can inhale the aroma of hops - the symptoms will become less severe.

  • Anti-cancer properties

Xanthohumol from hops has also shown anti-cancer effects against breast cancer cells, liver cancer cells, cancer cells prostate gland and cellular formations of lymphoma.

  • Insomnia

Hops extracts are most widely known for their calming effects (and it is said that pillows filled with hops were once used to help people fall asleep).

According to one study, hops resin increases the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter known for its inhibitory effect on nerve endings, mainly helping them calm down. Those researchers reported:

“A 2 mg concentration of hop extract was effective in reducing nighttime activity in the circadian rhythm of activity. Based on this, the administration of the non-alcoholic beer plant was recommended due to the hop content in the product due to the subsequent sedative effect that would be beneficial for night sleep.”

A separate meta-analysis found that 12 studies reported that valerian alone or in combination with hops improved sleep quality and reduced the time it took to fall asleep.

Hop cones: what are they used for?

Hop plant extracts may suppress anxiety, irritability and nervousness. They were also used for wide range other purposes:

  • to prevent hair loss;
  • to combat anorexia, as a digestive and diuretic component;
  • as an anaphrodisiac;
  • to solve gynecological complications.

Its essential oils are also widely used in perfumes, cereals, beverages and tobacco. Hops in the form of tea were also recommended to older people as a kind of drink for insomnia.

Based on night sleep atynography, sleep latency decreased to approximately 12.01 ± 1.19 min compared to the control group (20.50 ± 4.21 min), total activity decreased to 5284.78 ± 836.99 impulses compared to control (7258.78 ± 898.8), and anxiety decreased to 18.09 ± 3.8 compared to control (20.69 ± 2.14). The study concluded that "moderate consumption of non-alcoholic beer will promote nighttime rest, particularly its hop components."

It is also known that the bitterness of hops is extracted by cold pressing, and it is used to awaken the appetite. In medicine, it is used to treat patients with anorexia, and also in the form of IVs so that patients can feed themselves. In the worst case scenario, feeding occurs through tubes. This method is also very common in home folk medicine when you need to feed a patient.

It is useful for women to consume hops if they have problems with the menstrual cycle in order to restore normal hormonal balance. For cystitis, they also drink tea and tinctures of water.

Hop cones for bust enlargement - how does it work?

Hop cones contain an interesting hormone - PN8, which is considered the richest compared to others in terms of estrogen content. The female hormone is present in it as a cellular level compound, and when it enters a woman’s body, it is completely broken down, enriching the stem structures of cells. This process can be compared to taking hormonal pills, but hops completely replace this need. Needless to say that it is beneficial for women to drink more glasses of beer than for men?

Essential oils from cones enter the bloodstream, soothe and protect the lymph nodes responsible for the preservation of female hormones. Hops enlarges the mammary glands, the skin of the breast and internal tissues become more elastic and beautiful. The shape of the breast is restored, especially after prolonged breastfeeding. Hop cones are used in the form of a tincture.

  1. Take 1 spoon of pine cones.
  2. Pour a glass of boiling water.
  3. Leave for 9-10 hours.
  4. The tincture should be in a dark and warm place.
  5. It is advisable to place the tincture in a thermos.
  6. Take ½ spoon of tincture half an hour before meals.
  7. Three times a day, course up to 3-4 weeks.

It is worth noting that the taste of the drink is not very pleasant, although it helps in the first 2-3 months, so it is better to extend the course. If you are satisfied with the results, take a break. Then you can maintain them for a year until the breast itself becomes full and recovers.

Once in the blood, phytoestrogen immediately affects the lymph nodes on the side of the mammary glands. This is something that can be affected after having a baby and breastfeeding. Hormones along with thyroid gland will return to normal, and the woman will feel the menstrual cycle normalizing. Women also use hop oil, although they cannot drink it for a long time, only one month. The result is not the same as from the tincture, but one-time use does not pose any threat to health.

Hop cones for hair - the best masks to use

Hop cones help hair recover and strengthen the strength and structure of the hair. In cosmetology and folk medicine, hop cones were often used to give volume and a golden hue to hair. Hair begins to grow faster, volume increases due to the influx of nutrients, and thickness due to blood flow, which is enhanced by the bitter components of hops. It also has a special specific effect:

  • Restores hair;
  • Strengthens follicles;
  • Gives silkiness and shine;
  • Reduces the secretion of sebaceous glands;
  • Removes dandruff and oily residues from the scalp;

Dyed hair are also washed off, so the hops are applied to an inconspicuous strand. The duration of the healing course lasts only 15 procedures, no more and no less. This is followed by a break for several weeks, after which you can resume hop masks for 2 weeks.

When using hops, do not use a hair dryer, as it dries your hair to the point of dryness and sometimes brittleness.

  1. Decoction. If you use hop decoctions, it is better to cook them as follows. Take 2 large spoons of hop cones and add a liter of water. Boil it. After 25 minutes, remove from heat and rinse hair with cooled product after washing.
  2. Tincture. The previously described recipe is not suitable for use on hair. Therefore, we take 30 g of cones and fill it with warm water. Without draining the liquid, pour the resulting tincture into your hair from the carafe. Rub lightly into the scalp, do not rinse.
  3. Hops with calendula and sea buckthorn. An excellent herbal mixture for hair treatment. We collect all the ingredients and dry them, then pour boiling water over them. You need to strain it twice and use it within a month. Apply to hair, do not rinse.

Hop cones can also be combined with other plants, herbs, and more. There are special professional shampoos with burdock root and hop cones, used once a week. In the pharmacy you can find a set with hair balm of the same series.

Hop cones for men - how can they be useful?

For men, as you know, drinks with hops and the product containing other properties are not very useful, since consuming hops increases female hormone in the blood, roundness is acquired female figure, the ability to conceive is lost. Such compositions can be used in moderation, and also sometimes in other cases if men need to restore the functions of the genital organs.

To increase potency, they drink not beer, but hops. pure form, because you won’t use a lot of it, and the result will be much better. So, how to prepare the hop solution, and how to consume it?

However, hop cones are very useful for many women and men, children and adolescents as an aid to recuperation, mental capacity, cosmetic care for face and body skin, hair and more.
