Hypertension is one of the most common diseases, becoming younger every year. A special diet for hypertensive patients helps to combat it in many ways. We will also discuss a menu developed specifically for this disease.

Nutrition in numbers

Before you figure out what is good for hypertensive patients to eat, you need to formulate a rational diet. After all, it is the basis of any effective diet. To do this, you need to establish five or six meals a day in small portions of 200–250 g every 2.5–3 hours. Moreover, the last of them should be completed at least 4 hours before bedtime. Thus, we avoid the constant feeling of hunger and overeating, which requires enhanced digestion, and with it additional blood flow and extra stress on the heart.

Meals for hypertensive patients should be low in calories and high in fiber. In this regard, any vegetables are ideal. Their daily norm should be on average 300–350 g. Various fruits and berries with moderate sugar content can also be included in the diet. It is extremely important to monitor the amount of fluid consumed. The daily volume should not exceed 1.5 liters, including soups and drinks. However, alcohol is strictly prohibited. The exception, perhaps, is dry red wine, no more than 150 ml per day. But for hypertensive patients it is indicated in any quantities. Thanks to flavonoids, it decomposes bad cholesterol well, increases the elasticity of blood vessels and has a beneficial effect on blood pressure.

Enemies of the Heart

An equally significant question is what hypertensive patients should not eat. With this disease, any fatty foods, as well as dishes prepared using butter or margarine. The first number on the black list is pork and lamb. All sorts of offal, especially liver, kidneys and brain, follow. If you are preparing dietary meat, you should not spoil it with mayonnaise and other high-calorie sauces.

Contraindications for hypertension include the consumption of smoked meats, canned food, pickles and hot seasonings. The salt content in dishes must be kept to a minimum, because its excess provokes pressure surges. Remember, the daily salt intake should not exceed 3–5 g. For the sake of your health, you will have to forget about sweet pastries, homemade jam, cakes with butter cream and other joys of a sweet tooth.

Can hypertensive patients drink coffee? Doctors give a clear answer to this question: under no circumstances. After all, caffeine not only sharply increases blood pressure, but also reduces the elasticity of blood vessels.

Menu for hypertensive patients

It's no secret that excess weight negatively affects the condition of the heart and blood vessels. Based on this, weight loss becomes the main goal. The menu for hypertensive patients must take this aspect into account. Therefore, the diet should be dominated by lean meats and fish, steamed or in a slow cooker. Cod and sea bass are especially useful for hypertension, because they contain magnesium and phosphorus, which support the strength of blood vessels and hematopoietic processes.

Menu for hypertensive patients for at least 4 weeks–5 times should include dairy products, such as low-fat dairy products, eggs or low-calorie cheeses. It should contain potatoes, beans, and wholemeal bread in moderation. Soups should be prepared with vegetable or dietary meat broths, and if possible, do not overuse them. Among porridges, we choose in favor of buckwheat, oatmeal and millet.

The best friends of a hypertensive person are beets and carrots. They are rich in the main “heart” microelements - potassium and magnesium. In addition, they are full of fiber, which actively fights bad cholesterol. Dried fruits should also be added to the list of allowed products. A handful of dried apricots or prunes every day is the simplest and quick recipe to reduce high pressure.

This is why veal, rabbit, beef, turkey and chicken are the best choices for meat dishes.
  • Sea kale.
  • Low fat dairy products.
  • Vegetables, especially beets, carrots, cabbage. Fiber not only promotes excellent digestion, but also lowers cholesterol.
  • Dried fruits. Like many vegetables, they have a fairly large amount of antioxidants, and they also contain potassium and magnesium, which are especially important for the heart.
  • Seafood. Special attention It’s worth turning to lean fish.
  • Fruits.
  • Porridge.
  • Green.

You will, of course, have to give up alcoholic beverages. In general, exclude the influence of many bad habits desirable, because their abolition will only improve the body’s health.

Hypertensive patients should experiment more with spicy spices (do not overdo it!), as well as herbs. In this way, you can significantly “revive” the taste of any dish, and gradually new eating habits will no longer seem scary.

It's worth eating in fractions. This principle of constructing a diet will allow you to constantly feel full and will significantly help patients with excess weight in losing weight. It is on the advice described above that nutrition for any type of hypertension should be based.
